    I love my Solstice, even though it's the NA version with "only" 177 hp. I love driving it with the roof down on country roads with twisty turns and hills. I had sports cars in the '70s and '80s and then went to motorcycles. Now I have this as my sports car again and it's great to be back. While I loved my two Fiat X1/9s (both bought new) which only had 67 and 85 hp, this is a great replacement that makes me feel the way I did back then. The reason why the Solstice is as heavy as it is, is because it's 3 inches wider than a Miata. When you increase width, you take on weight significantly. And when you consider that it has a 2.4l engine, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, side impact doors and two airbags, 18 inch wheels with very wide tires, it's understandable that it weighs 2,870 lbs compared to the Fiat's 2,050. Also, the roof is a fairly heavy assembly compared to the Fiat's light weight removable panel. And as cheap as some reviewers say that the interior materials are, it's still light years ahead of the way the Fiat interior was made. The Fiat did have unbelievably sturdy bumpers though. I can't say the same for the Solstice or in fact any car made today. The Fiat bumpers were 15 mph shock absorber mounted affairs, and the Toyota that totaled itself on my rear bumper can attest to that. My X1/9 had a little gouge in the aluminum and was simply touched up. Getting back to the Solstice, I can't seem to help rack up the miles since I bought it last year. It's not my only car but when the weather is nice it gets driven. If you are thinking of getting one, I highly recommend it. It's low to the ground so automatic car washes are out, but the body work is so smooth that washing it by hand is easy. It takes less than half the time as it takes me to wash my motorcycle!

      In 2023 they are starting to go up, just got a mint red 2007 GXP with 70000 miles and paid $15900 Canadian and that was the cheapest price I could find for a GXP. The coupes forget about it, good luck finding one and if you do look at at least $25000 for a low mileage piece.

    I'm on my 3rd Saturn Sky, my first Sky was a baseline then I got a Redline, finally got the perfect Redline with only 7,362 miles on the odometer. I was in the right place at the right time. The Turbo Engine screams to go faster. The 18inch tires takes the turns like its on rails, super fun to drive especially with the top down. The aggressive lines on my Redline sets it apart and was ahead of its time.

      The Z0K was a factory suspension package. Sadly, it is getting almost impossible to find all the factory parts. DDM Works (aftermarket) can get the braces/backbone and that alone is a significant change. You can buy aftermarket coilovers that will lower your car the 3/4" the Z0K package did.

    fucking love my sosltice. put $500 into Ethereum in 2015, bought the solstice with my profits in 2017, and, got into a very minor accident six weeks later.
    the accident caused me to have the "reduced engine power" problem. I took it to five different shops, wasting about 10 weeks, before the insurance company decided to total it. They cut me a check for exactly what I paid, plus I got to keep the car. I knew what was wrong with it.. so I changed out the wire harness myself for $150.
    So now I have this beautiful, amazing, best car to drive EVER, and I only have an out of pocket cost of $650 for it.

    Careful closing the hood with the doors open. Not recommended.
    Fun cars. Stock they have enough guts to be interesting. Bear in mind that the GXP makes about the same power as many 'fast' cars from the '60s: bhp vs gross hp ratings for the skeptical on that one. With the roof up they strike me as prototype sportscars from the '60s. Fun fact: air conditioning was not standard in these cars, but most have it. My first one was a silver 07 GXP, bought it new off the lot, Ricky Smith Pontiac, Massachusetts.

    • @johnnyzee383
      @johnnyzee383 10 місяців тому +1

      They make MUCH better power to weight ratings than almost anything from the 60s...there wasnt many muscle cars that weighed 2900 lbs. Mine is a GXP with a stage 2 tune...estimating the HP at 320 hp divided into 2900 pounds =9 HP/Lb ..For comparison, a 71 Cuda with a 440 was rated at 375 HP, and about 330 net HP. Divided by the weight (3500 lbs ) =10.6, so this little car has it beat. In fact only a hand full of specially tuned cars would be there with it, like a 426 Hemi or 440 six pack or nicely massaged 427 Vette.

    • @bbb462cid
      @bbb462cid 10 місяців тому

      @@johnnyzee383 my first GXP had the GMPP tune and it was close to the power to weight on a '12 LS3 Camaro. That Sol GXP had the 290 bhp/340 ft-lb GM tune. My current one is an '08 with no tune. I was tempted to go LS2 with it. But 100% factory, it would hold it's own easily against my other sportscar- a 1966 smallblock Sting Ray. I'm going to get into that engine this spring, I think . But you know, for 7 grand I can get a 377 stroker that makes more hp than the 427s that were offered in vettes in '67! I like building engines but to build one from nothing would cost me almost 6K. A roller cam stroker for 7K? From a reputable builder? Damn that's sexy. Love my sol GXP though. I'm trying like hell to keep it but the '66 is taking up my free time.

    Biggest complaint is the seat. Hurts my ass on long trips. One of my other cars has corbeau fx1 pro. Hold you tight, more comfortable surprisingly and will drop 40lbs.

If running in tight technical turns, good luck keeping up against the Solstice GXP or Sky Redline with only $800 dollars combined engine/suspension mods. Dragstrips are fun for a few runs, roads like the Dragon in a car built for extreme quick turns over quick elevation changes while manually shifting are far more engaging. My 07 GXP purchased 3 years ago came with only 9,200 miles on the clock for 12K and looks like new. @@evansautomotive307 Before buying the GXP I drove the S-2000 and years before drove the F-body. The S-2000 is a sweet little car but requires you to run constant high RPMs to get anything out of it. They are also very uncomfortable. The F-body was good but without spending lots on suspension just doesn't make the sudden changes in direction the GXP with a $350 brace kit does (reminds me of a go cart). For $200~$400 depending on source you gain an instant 40 HP at the touch of a button (master cruise control) Too many sports cars have gotten too long and heavy which make great handling more difficult especially in this price point. Short wheelbases are more fun to me. I do like the Z350 and Z370 in manual transmission. I think the Z370 is gorgeous. Hey choose what ya like and like what ya chose. :)

      Buying cheap tires is one of the dumbest things a person can do on any vehicle. On something like the GXP or Redline is or any sports car is beyond dumb. Not only do you loose performance, think about what one accident can cause you vs. what you supposedly save on cheap tires.
