Yep! Sometimes used as a paint edger like this: 3-in x 6.375-in WHIZZ Multi Use Paint Pad and Edger Paint Edger www.lowes.com/pd/WHIZZ-3-in-x-6-4-in-Paint-Edger/1000601581
It’s a big deal to keep the moisture out beforehand, dry everything, pre-stain with a few coats, stain , poly for finish, do it outside if fumes are toxic (depending on the brand) unsealed wood will be destroyed by water. Also I hear it’s good to sand after the pre-stain process 🤷♂️…just keep you wood dry people!!!
While you’re applying yes - probably a good idea to wear a mask (unlike me) and open windows. Once cured, all good. All the furniture in houses these days is made with something toxic unfortunately
I'm not risking my families health by not being food safe with the counter top. Yes, I prefer to use my cutting board than the butcher block to cut on. That said for that 5% of the time me, my partner or our kids use the counter to cut I'll be happier knowing its OK to cut on. Probably shouldn't be telling folks to not have their butcher block to be food safe.
Perhaps poor choice of words. Poly is considered food-safe (once cured) by the FDA. Think about most dining room tables for example. I think some people use oil since it’s traditional for butcher block, but I doubt anyone would want to cut into their own countertops. www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?fr=175.300
Thanks for your concern! I did research it, and if you’d like to as well, you can visit the FDA’s website. Poly is food-safe once cured. Promise we won’t cut on it or chew on it :)
Spar urethane. That will seal the wood and make it extremely water resistant for a looooooooong time. You won’t have to reseal for 5-10 years. Sand that poly off and go with Spar. Much much better. Also I probably would have stained it a couple shades darker. But hey, it’s your stuff and not mine so I’ll just shut up and move on mosey along. Good luck on your future endeavors.
What paint color did you use for the kitchen cabinets ? Looks amazing
lol because we’re using it as a countertop not an actual chopping block
Here is a tip - buy can of wood sealer and follow the instructions on the can.
can you link the butcher block counter?
what is the "this tool" you are talking about? Can you link it?

Hi, did you seal the bottoms of the counters. I watched another video and he seals both sides. I just put in tops yesterday and am wondering. . .
Love it ❤
Just beautiful❤

Poly is food safe, just don't cut on it. IDK why anyone would want to cut on their counters anyways. That's what cutting boards are for 😉
not food safe... and Poly over an oiled wood surface?! tell us you didn't do your research without telling us...😂

“It probably doesn’t need to be food safe” she says to the food counter. People wonder why they and their children get cancer 😂.
As in, most people opt to use chopping boards instead of chopping directly on their counters, even if it’s butcher block. More info in the blog post 😊
99.9% of the time food is prepared in containers, bowls, or on cutting boards that ARE food safe. This comment is ridiculous.
Spoken like someone who doesn't have any idea what causes cancer lol
"Don't need the counter my kids eat off of to be food safe" 🤓🤓🤓 women...☕
