  • Sea Stack at Bako National Park in Sarawak collapsed on the 13th of February 2024 due to a massive storm. According to Sarawak Forestry, a local nature guide claimed that strong waves caused the Cobra Sea Stack to fall over and now everything is gone.
There is no remaining feature left to see. This Sea Stack has been the icon of Sarawak for as long as I can remember, and has been showcased on many posters and videos promoting Sarawak as a tourist destination.
I have personally visited the Sarawak Sea Stack numerous times in the last ten years, and here is my tribute video to share with the world what it looked like. If you look closely in the middle of the video, you will see that there is an empty portion at the base of the Sea Stack, which could be the reason of the collapse. The foundation probably eroded away over the years.
Anyhow, this also comes as a massive shock to Sarawakians and nature lovers as just a few years ago, the famous Horse Rock in Tusan, Miri also collapsed on 22 February 2020. That is two iconic natural structures that has fallen in the last fours.
For those who never got the chance to see the Sea Stack of Bako Sarawak, you can only do it through photos and videos. But Sarawak still has many other natural formations like the Pinnacles at Mulu, the Tortoise Head at Deer Cave and several others around Bako National Park.
