      I think it depends more on the horse than the breed. Some horses much rather be cutting horses or show jumping horses than dressage horses while others may be fine with dressage.

      @@wintershock This. At my riding school we had a PRE/Percheron mix who had inherited the best stuff of both breeds. He had a massive charisma and flexibility that made dressage fairly easy to him (with an intense presence in the arena). However, he was a jumper at heart and always had the most fun surrounded by obstacles.

      Venus Marz Uhm no. There's no horse breed which was breed for dreesage. I find it very cruel if I'm honest. These majestic and powerful horses in a small arena, moving like a swan for the goddamn people. It's just heartbreaking. People used these horses as draft horses and because of their muscles, they were used for war horses as well. Nowadays human beings started to use them as dressage and show jumping horses. I find them very beautiful of course, but the true beauty is can't be found in dressage shows. And if you look closely, you can see Coroado's mouth full of bubbles. That woman keeps the horse in a very short leash (I don't know the exact definition, I'm not English). Poor horses...

      This and lateral walks are things that Iberian horses generally have a hard time with. Tons of talent for the collected work but they tend to struggle relaxing through the back and coming into contact. They are very sensitive and can curl under and behind the bit by default a lot of the time.

      @kittyclaw5099 4 роки тому +3

      I‘ve read this pretty often below videos. I’m not really into the dressage community. Could you explain to me, why PRE or Frisians are not that excepted?

    • @eleanoraaacr3372
      @eleanoraaacr3372 4 роки тому +6

      This isn't actually a PRE, Coroado is a Lusitano or PSL (Puro Sangue Lusitano) if one wants to use acronyms. However, PREs and PSLs are quite similar in type and are both broadly known as 'Iberian' breeds; ie. breeds that are native to the Iberian Peninsula. Traditionally they have been less accepted in the modern world of competition dressage as their way of moving is vastly different to that of dressage-bred warmbloods. In particular they often struggle with relaxation and regularity in the walk , and fluidity within their gaits (though I will stress that the latter note is largely due to the manner in which they're sometimes trained, with an over-emphasis on collection). Having worked with both WBs and Iberian horses they are often like chalk and cheese to ride; PREs and PSLs often feel much more compact, incredibly sensative to aids with a particular natural talent for lateral work. WBs tend to feel rather more strung out, often a little more inclined to being laterally stiff but with more power. Obviously these are sweeping statements and do not apply to all members of either type!
      More recently, in an effort to keep up with the modern Dressage market, some breeders of Iberian breeds have been slightly altering the stamp of horse that they look to produce; breeding for example a Lusitano with all the beauty that they're recognised for but larger in size (typically they would be around 15.1-16 hands) and with more powerful, flamboyant movement. Whether or not this is to the benefit of the future of the breed... well, we all have different opinions. I'm old school and love the old type that were originally bred for bullfighting, however they wouldn't hold up in the dressage ring against purpose-bred WBs, at the end of the day.
      Friesians are a different matter entirely as they were bred to be harness horses. Their movement is very sharp, snappy, and certainly their trot can be very impressive; but it can be a challenge to encourage them to stretch down and work well over their backs when under saddle, in part due to the high head and neck carriage that has been bred into them. This limits them somewhat in the extended work especially. Again, like Iberian breeds they can be hindered by their movement not appearing relaxed or regular enough; the german term of 'schwung' is the only one that I can use to describe what the aforementioned horses can often seem to be missing. That powerful fluidity that carries through the body of a horse that's working well. I'm not a huge fan of riding them as I've sat on some that are incredibly well schooled, nice horses and never found a single one to be comfortable; but that's merely my personal feelings! They're undeniably breathtaking horses to watch.

      Eleanor Brady McGrath I think that his crest is pretty standard per the breed. It’s not unusual to find those horses with lots of excess muscle and fat build in their necks and along their spine.

      Spanish stallions (Lusitanos like this horse along with several other breeds) tend to be pretty cresty. That's clearly mostly just a fatty crest; you can see how much it wiggles during certain movements.
