Awesome review and spot on. Been using this line in my tournament fishing and it’s been amazing! If you fish it right, you won’t be able to find a better spinning line.
I been throwing this in 8lb exclusively with 4 inch wacky rigged senkos for a decade and love it. Pitches a small weightless bait a mile, feel every little thing through the line . i just take a black chisel tip sharpie and mark some lines here and there along the first couple feet just to break up the outline a bit. Have caught bass up to 6lbs with this on a light trout rod rigged as described above
The sharpie idea is genius. I may try that, I fish a flouro leader but it’s getting annoying having to tie it on everytime. I love this line too! Thanks for the view and comment.
Great video. I have fished with this line exclusively for the past 10 years. Nothing beats it. And if you can tie a double Palomar knot, you're good to go.
I fish ultra light and am a huge fan of Nanofil. You are right, the line is expensive… This is what I do when spooling a new reel. The Nanofil is tied to a post or something and then pull off whatever distance I can cast and add 50% more, cut the line. Somewhere around 150 feet or so of line. Make sure when unspooling the line that it comes off the Nanofil spool in a counterclockwise direction to prevent twisting. Then go back to the post the line was tied off on, and tie that end on the reel. Reel the Nanofil onto the empty spinning spool. After that tie on whatever line you want for backing and reel that on until the spool is properly filled. After that tie the line to the post and walk all of the line off the spool. Go back to the post and reattach the backing and reel all of the line back on. It takes longer to do but the spool is filled properly and now when to want to change the Nanofil, simply pull off the old Nanofil and reel on some new. Optionally you can extend the life of the Nanofil by pulling off the old Nanofil and reverse it back on your spool.
That’s a really good idea. I haven’t used a backing line before but at $20 for 150 yards I’m definitely going to do that next time. I do reverse the line to try to lengthen the life but your process is a lot better
@@Skinnyriver The lengthy process is necessary to get the desired amount of Nanofil on the spool and also having the correct amount of backing to fill the spool to the correct height. By the way - an “FG Knot is a strong connection for Nanofil to backing. The knot appears intimidating but can be mastered with practice. AND it looks great! LOL
Spot on review. I had no concept of how thin this line is. Bought 4lb test for my ultralight spinning setup and almost bailed on it because my casts were sailing. Glad I did not. Finally got it dialed in and I love it. I usually fish a fluorocarbon leader too but the 4lb is like a human hair thickness. I’m just fishing it strait to my hooks and lures. It’s very strong. I looked into a feisty speckled trout today and had no issues landing it.
Awesome man! Yeah I had a hard time with this line in the beginning and saw a lot of negative reviews and almost threw it away. BUT, like you, got it dialed in and will not go back! Thanks for the view! Glad you found the channel!
It’s kinda slow but works. If you remove the line onto another reel, then take it off onto a different reel, then spool it back up, it’ll be flipped. You can also tie it to the top of your rod and let the line float down the river, then swap the ends and reel it back up.
I use this line a lot, I don't use a leader but I re-tie religiously as the weak point when using this line appears to be the knot strength. I use the "nano knot" which is easy and quick to re-tie. It's a great line but requires more line management than usual. We recently got into a magical day on Lake Tawakini catching monster stripers and hybrids. I was using a med-heavy spincast with 12 pound nanofill which worked fantastic and never failed. Thanks for the honest review.
Love it! but u have to run it out & back on to reel under load (ie: boat under power) to start with & then once a year do the same. Other than that it frays if casting alot so just trim a bit of & re-tie leader.
This line might be the only line on the market that makes you go WOW when you see how far you can cast. People like to knock on the abrasion resistance but you should know that since it's incredibly thin and it's a single strand.
Yeah I agree,. I tried not to knock it but just advise those that want to try it that in my opinion you’ll get best performance and longevity if you use a leader. Hopefully people can see beyond the negative reviews and try it out! Thanks for the view!
That line frays a lot and breaks at times making me lose lures, bobbers and even a few fish! I use it on my crappie setup and even a crappie snapped it off. I don't recommend nanofill. Switching to 6lb braided line and that will eliminate the problem.
@@Skinnyriver for the price of nanofill why should leader be used. That's just my opinion. It should be used straight up without any kind of leader for the price we are paying for. It is smooth and feels gd but I'm done with nanofill.
Yeah I completely understand. I agree it frays and if you don’t generally fish a fluro leader nano is not a good option. There are other reasons to fish fluro leader (like low visibility if you fish braid). For me I always fish a leader so nano makes sense bc it’s the smoothest, softest, and slickest line I have fished. BUT at a fraying cost and $$$ cost. If no leader, NANO sucks
I don’t use a backing but it’s a good idea given how expensive this line is. Also the knots slip a lot so it’s probably best to have a mono backing ties to the spool. I don’t and never had an issue but I have never hooked a monster that ran all my line out :)
It’s pretty supple. I think the biggest drawback for using as a leader is it is a highly visible white line (not transparent like mono or fluorocarbon) It might be worth a shot given the diameter is so small but you will probably need to drop down to the 0.003 diameter which is the 3lb test. Here is a discussion thread for using with fly fishing. www.southeastflyfishingforum.com/forum/berkley-nanofil-fly-tying-t41398.html?s=64b60c3e83ba6222580bf4e32d371b25&
@@Skinnyriver I feel you. I hate leaders. I like samurai cuz it doesn’t twist up. Tried yozuri hybrid that line was a tangled mess. Tried maxima mono, too much stretch for setting hooks with finesse rigs. Braid is not stealthy enough as it cuts through water.
Agreed completely with yozuri, and yeah I absolutely will not fish strait braid on finess stuff as I mainly fish clear small stream. I’ll give it a shot!
I haven’t but that’s a good idea. I’m guessing that you spool around 50 yards of mono then tie on the nano so you have the usable part of the spool with nano and not wasting it?
Skinny River Fishing I use it for walleye, IGFA TESTED 2 lb fire line crystal and it kept breaking at 9+ pounds, ,now a shock could beat that and it could snap so a mono leader or use the drag to prevent a break ,but 9+ pounds is just under 10 pound trilene mono breaking point ,so I don't see how you can go wrong trying it. I use 3 pound FIRELINE CRYSTAL FOR WALLEYE AND CAUGHT A 5 pound pike, no problem 😉 I use a 4'6" UL Ugly Stick and have no problem at all. I can't see it I don't see how a fish can and they are looking at the bait or lure, In tests the knot is the problem so tie a good one.I use the double palomar good luck

Does this line have a bit more stretch than regular braid. That’s what I’ve heard.
