I actually rode a train from California where I lived until I was 10 years old to Texas to visit my grandparents in Timpson Texas once a year. It was very exciting, I remember the starched white table cloth and the black porters dressed in starched white uniforms serving us breakfast. My daddy worked for the railroad at the time so I'm sure we got special rates. It's a very special memory I treasure to this day.

This is an awesome interview! It is amazing to hear the history of Great Scenic Railway Journeys, and how the sires got started. I would love to meet Mr. Robert Van Camp. He has been a great part of my inspiration for what I do on my channel, and I hope he does lots more TV programs in the future.

Love this! My grandparents live about 10 minutes away from Fontana Lake. Took the GSMR when I was about 6 or 7. They were also on the Bryson City Chamber of Commerce and were a major role in helping getting the railroad started.

When does GSRJ come on UNCTV? The only time I've seen it on TV is during the Plege Weeks.

611 was never featured? Maybe they were not focusing on it or she was out on excursion duty.

all this crap about smoking, the train smokes more than i do, but ime the one who cant smoke, they dont even have a smoking car ? puts people right off of making long journeys, suppose i asked you to travel without a toilet rest room , you want to make money, cater for smokers, us old timers built your damned railways, now were discriminated against, remember prohibition ? well i dont see you banning alcohol on your trips
