if they made the shroud compatible with the tracksaw guide rails this tool would be a holy grail.
The guide rail takes away 5mm of cutting depth
I like rewatching T&S videos. Its the best channel on UA-cam for makita reviews
I have the Milwaukee M12 version of this. Probably not near the torque of this new Makita model, but for certain tasks, it's amazing. For tile and small cutoff jobs it's great. Where it gets to WOW! factor for me is cutting hardware cloth and expanded steel mesh. Though it does a great job with thin sheet metal, the noise is unnerving to me. That's why I jumped on the nibbler tool as soon as I saw it. Having the ability to cut odd things of various materials with a tool this small is very cool.
Love the Run DMC comment in the beginning 👍
👍🏻
For cutting tile this will be SOooo much easier than an angle grinder❤
I have an x lock grinder with the Tuck Point guard, but its bulky and for those thinner materials this would be absolutely fantastic. Cant wait till it comes out in the US.
Love myself a 3" cut off tool
Many of those diamond tile wheels are directional. Run your finger both ways and you will see, so.e brands of wheel I install backwards.
What a lot of power in such a small package. Angle grinders can be a bit scary. But this seems easy to use and easy to use precise.
I saw this in the local tool shop this week and wondered about it's functionality but thanks to your video I am convinced to add it to my shopping list 😁
Nice! Will probably pick one of these up once it hits the states. You know.... In 2027...
I came to watch sparks fly around inside of a pipe and I was not disappointed.
I bought the Milwaukee when it first came out... Gutless... Weak... Worthless.... Then I bought the Dewalt. 4 times the power and greater depth. Awesome tool. I need to pick up the Makita to compare it too the DeWalt but it looks very comparable in power.
The depth aint the same, Makita is only 18mm, I was hoping it had more.
@@ibby81ae 18mm.. that's it! I think the DeWalt is around 23mm
@sixtyfiveford my problem is I'm heavy into Makita and don't want to buy different platforms.
@sixtyfiveford Dewalt is 22 mm, I don't know if it's the nut or the actual body that makes it cut deeper.
@@ibby81ae The body is recessed/thinner in the cutting side. 18mm is probably what my Milwaukee is.
It would be nice if they made one for left handed users.
The Bosch 12v version can be used left handed but it is not reversible so you end up eating dust.
I wonder if you can reverse the motor wires and make it go backwards?
Make sure you make a note or label on it to say it’s backwards :)
Be nice if lots of tools had left hand versions.
@@gf2eit already has that feature which is explained in the video
@@MainCoonesYoshiandhisSisters I meant the Bosch one that the parent comment was complaining about.
Wish they had come out with it sooner. Ended up getting a Dewalt to get the job done over a year ago :/
This will be a nice addition to my 18v collection 🤠👍
Damn, I just purchased this one 3 days ago, haven't got chance to use it yet. Thanks for good timing video again!!!🎉🎉🎉
How are you liking it? And are using it more than the angle grinder?
It cuts tiles better than regular 18v brushles grinders and almost as good as my 900w corded dewalt grinder.. amazing little tool
Hoping we get this in the UK soon! Been waiting on a small cut off wheel
It’s in the UK Now, best price Howes £126 Body Only
You could use the 2amp battery for a more light & compact size if it is powerful enough 👍😊
We dont get 2ah in nz, 1.5, 3 4 5 and 6
If you really want it compact, try and get one of those 14v LXT batteries from Japan…
I've been waiting for this tool for a very long time in the US. Makita stated it would be released in the first quarter of 2023 and still nothing yet. Any word or idea of a release date for US customers? Thanks
Its out in germany now
very good for tiles cutting
Thanks for your video. I orderd this small grinder after I have seen your video yesterday and received it just now. What can I say ..... wow 👍
We need a head to head but it's only really between DeWalt and Makita cause the M12 is way behind in power. You can put it against the Bosch and Makita 12v but the DeWalt at least smokes the Milwaukee M12
I have the DeWalt. I’m a big Makita fan but it’s going to be pretty hard to outdo the DeWalt. That thing is a beast!
Except for weight, m12 is great for overhead drywall cuts with vacuum & dust shroud…. Tool and battery super light…. But yes, power trade off
Great review, surprised it performed so well. I've got the M12 version and always been a bit disappointed. Would love to see this compared with the M12. Also noticed the non-Milwaukee consumables in this size are a bit hit and miss, great to see other brands bringing this size grinder to market.
I ended up purchasing the Dewalt one when it was released because I was so disappointed in the M12 version. I have found the extra oomph from the 18V platform is enough to stop it bogging down in most scenarios. I assume it's the same for the Makita. I have found it absolutely chews through the sacrificial cut-off discs though.
Yes please, a comparison to the M12 would be great!!!
@@superspeederFrom other reviews and testing, the M12 is the worst of these (but also the oldest) from the major brands. Even Ryobi handily outperforms the m12. milwaukee is due for a better replacement model.
@@ccbowers thanks, I’ll look into it!
@@superspeeder
I did see in a video that the m12 can get a significant performance boost from bigger batteries and "high output" m12 batteries. Even the small 2.5Ah HO battery seemed to make a difference compared to the standard 2.0Ah battery
looks really good, also didn't expect much but I would say it is basically perfect! Unfortunately I have to buy a 12v bosch version :|
I'm into carving hardwood bowls, the run DMC perks my interest if there are wood disks,,,,sanding bowls is the most time consuming ,does Makita have a detail/mouse sander more powerful than the new Milwaukee detail sander?
Great video; a fair demonstration of many potential use cases.
I have a few questions (other can feel free to chime in).
I don't currently own an angle grinder but I have invested in the 18V makita platform pretty extensively.
1. With a view mainly to cut tiles for renovation purposes as a DIY enthusiast, would I be better off with one of the "bigger brother" offerings from Makita (115/125/230mm) instead of the DMC300 (76mm)?
2. That said, I would like to know if it's possible to use this model as a grinder, replacing the cutting disc with one with a grinding face, as the dust collection shroud cannot bevel as mentioned in the video. Using a grinding wheel would allow to reform the edge profile of a tile freehandedly, without having to cut the tile.
3. I have seen a few 76mm grinding discs on offer, but with thicknesses of 10-30mm per disc, I'm not sure if they would be compatible the machine (not enough tolerance). You mentioned that the cutting discs come in at a 1mm thickness, so I assume any thicker would not be compatible with the machine. Additionally, there's the small issue of a non-variable rpm of 20,000, which limits the range of cutting/grinding discs that can be safely used with the DMC300, as some 3rd party cutting/grinding discs on offer have a max rpm limit far below that of 20,000 rpm.
4. Would I just be better off buying an angle grinder, or both if I can spare the cash?
5. And can I use this machine solely as a tile cutter, or would it make more sense buying a dedicated (wet) tile saw?
6. Could you actually use this to cut wet tiles (to reduce heat build-up and dust)?
Thanks.
I hope this gets answered. Invaluable questions deserving answers!
I would like to see you put the 18v vs the 12v
Would love to see a comparison to the Milwaukee M12FCOT, is the larger battery of the Makita worth it?.
Will you make a comparison between Dewalt's and this one?
3:33 "These, I think, are 1mm in diameter." 😂🤭
I know what you meant.
the makita gloves look nice
Would a xgt model ever be in the works you think? It looks extremely handy for tile!
Yes.
Hey Mate. Why do they keep on releasing / inventing new tools that I do not need, but want to have, none the less..... I have an equivalent model from Bosch, the GKS 12v-26.... it too is fast as fork!! almost too much, for 1 handed work. and, but too, there is no way to 'drive it' 2 handedly. Price is/was fair, for accptable quality. Keep the videos coming, ja?
Greetings from Germany
P.S. now that CoVid is under control, did you still have that Makita sign/light up for sale?
Like to get one but a bit on the high side. Gave 90 $ dollars for my Milwaukee cut off tool . Maybe they will go down a bit later on.
If only Makita made a 1.7ah Powerstack battery equivalent for it 😢
How often do you use the cut-off tool?
very cool
Please do a comparison with the Milwaukee m12 version
Where were you at the start , looks familiar
reverse is nice.
Seems like 85mm circ discs should fit too
How awesome would this be on the CXT platform? Rhetorical question, it would be amazing!
yeah, agreed!
Wouldn't want it on 12v personally it really should be a 18v or 40v tool
@@aaronoconnor606 imho the whole point of this tool is to be a smaller and lighter alternative to an angle grinder... So 12v would make sense. But why not a 40v version, I agree...
I agree 100% with a teenie 2.0Ah battery it would fit anywhere!!
Can it be use for grinding since you demonstrated us only for cutting!
Will it be good for shower boards
They have been needing this to replace that weak 12v one they had
I want to see it vs the dewalt
Dose it come in 40v
Any news on an XGT version?
Trying to find one on Ebay
I do kitchens want this for tile for back splash for the cuts around electrical outlets. Don't really want the m12 and I'm not on dewalt for battery platforms. Not sure why it takes makita so long for this tool dewalt has had there's out for long time and the M12 been around for like 5 years or something
Sadly DeWalt is much better with just better cuting range.
I have the Rigid version of this. I really like mine, but mine doesn't come with the shroud.
I'm also pretty sure I paid much less than that Makita costs.
Makita seems a hard sell in the States, but here in Aus/NZ Makita LXT tools are similarly priced to AEG (Rigid) 18V.
Nice. Ive been thinking about getting a Milwaukee m12 one due to the reduced weight
M12 wont have the power as this one. You must use it with 4 or 6Ah battery if you want it not to stall as much
@@FixthisCDtrue the Milwaukee won’t be as powerful, but I have noticed that the 2.5 high output batteries are really perfect for the M12. Keeps everything compact and has the same sustained voltage and therefor resists stalling just as the bigger batteries without the extra weight and size.
@@FixthisCD yeah man. For what I do it's more about keeping the weight down.
@@thekiwinomadsame here. It has plenty of power for what I use it for. If I need to do something bigger...that's what full size grinders are for.
Just got the new impact now I want one of these do I need it absolutely not
RUN DMC i got it no one else did!👍
No aws is abit odd
No aws 😢
Can this handle wood or is Makita HS301D better for that?
Might be good for 5/8” or less mouldings, 5/8”” or less sheet goods.
I bought the Milwaukee 12v version last year, great for small tile detail, metal up to about 16 gauge, excellent for cement board and drywall with dust shroud and vacuum (great for overhead drywall cuts, eliminates about 90% of dust)….. so I imagine the Makita, with 18 v behind it would be as good or better for those thing (other than the additional weight)…. The Milwaukee 12v bogs down if you push it two hard …. But it weighs next to nothing, overhead cutting a breeze.
The problem for wood cuts is the limited blade selection in 3”, there is aftermarket stuff available on amazon….
I have a few Milwaukee 12 v tools but am predominantly Makita 18v, which is why I’m here for this review
Now I watched video... I think it's overkill to buy this for FiberCement sheet😂, where to get the shroud?😅
Its in the box for most models
Lmao 4:45 "plastic"
You're easily amused.
Is this any good for grinding? ?
*No*
Any plans to get hold of an hs474dz?
Probably not. I've already done the 40v version.
Based on 40v version would you take the 18v tool over the dss501? (Diyer)
Yes.
Is that ceramic or a ceramic porcelain hybrid Is usually pure ceramic is just orange
Copy paste Milwaukee 12v :))) is even sounds the same :))))
The tool reverses, mate, not the shop vacuum attached to it. It won't blow dust out when you're running it backwards. 😂
Dear oh dear...
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Oh you're a Kiwi, you've got to see the funny side of that mate! 😁
give me a 40v version makita
Strange little tool. not quite an angle grinder not quite a skilly. weird little thing I can’t find a use for in my load out.
Run DMC😂
Stop giving me excuses to buying it . 11:10
Ouch, my ears!
$300 USD!
Ooooohh my wallet and my ass hurt 😔 💳
Where did you see that price? Seeing as it is only $300 NZ
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIALall the tools at the beginning are expensive. One year later I will find it like 130-140€
And made in china
Useless tool.. just a grinder
If you're going to change direction of your cut, change the direction of the way the blade is spinning or you're going to shatter them every time
