Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I'm unable to recommend specific brands, but please keep in mind that you're looking for a prenatal without vitamin A or beta carotene, with high levels of B vitamins, and without dyes, fillers or additives.

I am 46 and I was told Im too old and I had no chance of getting pregnant again. I've had 3 children with no problems, my youngest is 16. My fertility dr. told me I was not making eggs. Can this be possible?

Hi Alma! Yes, it is possible that you're no longer ovulating. Your fertility work-up should include a full hormone panel (LH, FSH, estrogen, progesterone) plus an AMH. You may also have ultrasounds done to visualize follicle development. This, combined with your menstrual history, will give you an indication of whether or not you're ovulating. Ovulation is only one factor when it comes to fertility though, so I would encourage an in-depth discussion with your fertility doctor regarding other age-related factors. Wishing you all the best!

I watched this and felt the need to share with you my thoughts on this. My husband is a real medical doctor and half the stuff she is going on about is unnecessary. You do not need to remove all of these things from your diet for more than 4 months OR AT ALL apart from the alcohol, smoking and illegal drugs for a healthy baby. I do however agree with taking folic acid - this is proven to decrease neurological issues with your baby and maintaining a healthy balanced diet and exercise regimen (30 minutes of exercise a day if fine). Definitely see your MD before trying to fall pregnant to check if you are up to date with all your vaccinations such as Rubella and Hepatitis etc and your iron, cholesterol etc.

Thank you so much for your input! You're absolutely right, you do not need to have a perfect diet to prepare for pregnancy. Some people do ask me about how they can improve their diet as part of preparing for pregnancy, so my recommendations are based around having a healthy, nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet plan.
Lab testing before pregnancy is also an important part of preparing for pregnancy. I would also suggest vitamin B12, vitamin D (for those of us living in Nothern states/Canada), hemoglobin A1c, and a TSH (thyroid screen) as part of pre-pregnancy lab testing.
Thank you for adding to our discussion!

I gave you a ‘thumbs down’ for your approach. You could have presented your opinion without the unnecessary insults. In addition, her suggestions in regard to making changes in ones diet were absolutely relevant if one would like to give their BEST effort in creating a child. Furthermore, just because your husband is a ‘real’ doctor, doesn’t mean that you are.

Hi Kevin! Thanks for your comment. You can absolutely have a healthy pregnancy with moderate amounts of caffeine and alcohol before pregnancy. However, in couples wanting to go the extra mile to prepare, I recommend avoiding as much as possible based on a large body of research of the harmful effects of alcohol and caffeine on male fertility.
Here's a great article from the Journal of Endocrinology, published in 2017, about the effects of alcohol and other environmental factors on male fertility: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28500085
Here's another great systematic review, also from 2017, about the effects of alcohol and caffeine on semen quality and fecundability: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28333357
I hope these articles are interesting for you. Thank you for participating in our discussion!
