    I'm glad UA-cam recommends smaller channels from time to time, subsribed!
    I wonder how it'll fare with Linux.

    I have a suggestion for your Audio troubles. I think it is when you move away from your mic when you are addressing the camera/audience. Maybe you should look into one of those smaller mics that clip on to your shirt or move your Mic onto an arm so it is closer when you lean a little back. I'm no expert on this topic but this is just from what I've gathered from watching other channels.

    Back in 2019, I was on a bus trip across Europe and a friend of mine brought his One Mix 2. Man, what a thing that was to watch movies cramped in very limited space in those travel busses. I cant believe something as bulky as Steam Deck is now considered "poketable"...
    Great review!

      I will say that there is something magical about using a full-fledged computer in that small of a form factor. Brings me back to the days of Playing Donkey Kong 94 on a gameboy color for the first time.
      However, if I'm being honest I don't think I've ever heard anyone describe the steam deck as "pocketable." "Portable?" Sure, but putting a deck in your pockets would invite some . . . interesting looks from onlookers.
      Thanks for watching and commenting! Appreciate the support!

    This was the form factor I dreamed of back in my college days. I'm from an older generation. The (shudders) netbook generation.

    Did performance improve after replacing the thermal compound?

    • @SiliconFox-s8d
      @SiliconFox-s8d  2 дні тому +4

      Big no unfortunately. Temps did improve, but there's not enough headroom to make any difference. The fan was quieter on idle though.

    Love the intro mate!
    For the disassembly, you mentioned cleaning and repasting the thermal paste in the hopes to drop temps which should stop the fans ramping up.
    happen to know the results of that?
    I can see when you were palying LFD temps were around 68-70c, would be neat to see a before and after.

    • @SiliconFox-s8d
      @SiliconFox-s8d  День тому +1

      Excellent point. Next time I repaste something, I'll grab data for that. As for this device, temps dropped about 3c on average? I tried running LFD again just now, and for a ten minute heat soak run, it was still in the mid 60s and bumping up against 70. Though idle and low power workloads don't ramp the fans as much now, which is nice.

    Netbooks are still quite popular in some niches in my country, these come equipped with either Intel Atoms (single core, dual threads) or Core 2 Duos (dual core, single threads) so I occasionally flip those for a quick (but narrow) profit; Tiny10 (a barebones version of Windows 10) works decently on such machines (provided you max the ram, install an SSD, and optimize windows), so Dual Core CPUs are still quite usable

      Very interesting! I've heard about some of those de-bloated windows isos, but I've been nervous to try them on anything. Seems like a huge security risk. I may have to reevaluate this machine with one of those windows isos, maybe a comparison against linux? Thanks for the input!

      @@SiliconFox-s8d I’ve used Tiny10 for over a year on the low-end laptops I flip; no complaints since. The first time I sold one I had tested the OS for over a month before committing to posting that laptop, so as to make sure I did not sell a botchy device.
      Disclaimer: I have only tested it in low-end computers, since their target audience will only use them for the most basic uses (office productivity, light browsing and media consumption); I have not tested it for harder to run programs, as these usually require computers that already have the specs to run full windows.

    I still use 2 ASUS / LG EeePC Netbooks. Still great for my purposes. I'm looking to replace them, but getting a small Netbook like one with ethernet is difficult or extremely expensive..

    • @SiliconFox-s8d
      @SiliconFox-s8d  48 хвилин тому

      The Asus EeePC was another one I was curious about. The design is still appealing to this day! Also good luck finding a more modern netbook with ethernet. I would imagine that at that size, it's not really a requirement for many people.
      I'm guessing you're not one for the dongle life eh?
