AYA Neo Slide + RTX 3060: Portable Power or Pointless Setup?
It’s that time of year again-holiday cheer, festive lights, and a chance to explore exciting tech experiments! As we wrap up the year, I wanted to know if it's worth hanging onto our aging Zen 4 based devices or can we extend them??
Can the AYA Neo Slide paired with an RTX 3060 via USB4 really deliver a worthwhile gaming experience? I tested this unique setup using the One Dock V2 to see if it’s a viable option for handheld gamers looking to push their device’s limits.
From the voxel destruction of Teardown to the open-world exploration of Palworld, I measured the real-world performance gains and explored the challenges, like bandwidth bottlenecks and CPU power constraints, that come with connecting an eGPU to a handheld device.
Is this setup a game-changer for handheld PCs, or is the performance increase not worth the investment? Let’s break it all down and find out!

The Miyoo A30: A Low Budget Superstar or Finnicky Flop?
Переглядів 7642 місяці тому
Today we're looking at the Miyoo A30! An ultra budget retro handheld, that tries to be a jack of all trades, but unfortunately masters none. Though that's a bit down on the device. It actually does some things well, better than its contemporaries I'd argue! There's a history here, especially with the SOC powering it, the Allwinner A33, and I don't think you want to miss out on that! Chapters: 0...

Today we're looking at the Onexplayer X! intel edition. It's an interesting device with an even more interesting form factor. It's part gaming, part productivity, but all compute! I personally believe it to be a sleeper hit of 2024. It's come quietly and seems to have flown a bit under the radar, especially with all the anticipation for Lunar Lake and Ryzen 300 series. But should you ignore thi...
X86 vs. ARM: Does It Even Matter Anymore?
Переглядів 11 тис.3 місяці тому
You hear it all the time. "X86 is dying!" or "ARM is more efficient!" Hell, even "RISC V is the future!" So much discourse surrounding CPU architectures and efficiency that it feels like all nuance has been lost. When did we as a community become a bunch of scattered tribes that adhere to a rigid belief? Today I'll be doing a bit of a deep dive into the history heterogenous architectures, ISAs,...
Game.IR: A New Open Source Upscaler?

As we already know, Nvidia has a stranglehold on the GPU market. Hardware and software-wise, though that's not stopping innovation from happening within the GPU space. Today I'll be going over a technical research paper from Santa Clara University. A group of researchers there are pitching their training model as a new standard in super resolution upscaling. It's early days, but perhaps they're...
Can Linux Save Old hardware?
Переглядів 1753 місяці тому

All this sentiment and excitement means there must be some truth to it right? Join me as I dip my toes into the world of Linux, trying to get a stubborn build working. Will I find the promised Linux- goodness everyone waxes so warmly about? My magic 8 ball says nope!
Cool sweater, but the contrast with your skin colour is very unfortunate. Maked it very difficult to discern facial features.
Cool sweater, guy, video and topic!
Merry Christmas. After seeing these results I would prob just stick with the handheld natively and not deal with the dock. Something I just thought of that would be awesome for a handheld is an Intel based all e core (skymount) handheld with 8-12 XE cores. It would sip power..
This would go CRAZY with thunderbolt 5. 80Gbps bandwidth! Merry Christmas to you as well🎄
I really love your videos, the pacing, background music, script, and esoecially the jokes are pure perfection. Only critique I have is the ai generated pfp and banner, and that your set/bedroom is not that well lit. I always turn off my adblocker for your vids, if you need sone support, consider opening a patreon
Thank you for watching. I've been meaning to replace the ai stuff for a minute now but haven't due to costs. It's placeholder and won't be around forever. As for the ads, I had no idea my videos have ads! I definitively am not running any myself, maybe that's an automatic UA-cam thing? My set is one that I want to make look nicer but again, money😅A patreon is something I certainly want to do, but I want to make sure I've got good perks for people who pledge. Maybe I'll just open a kofi for tips? At any rate, I appreciate your support! Have a Merry Christmas!
There hasn't been a lot of talk about egpu's lately. Love the fresh take on the tech. Also FIRST!
Man, I'm not even planning on buying this device but your approach in reviewing it gave me more appreciation for it. Keep it up!
Thank you so much!!
Just got mine like 10 days ago. really unique review.
He s wearing a t shirt same color as the slide!
BIG IMPORTANT CORRECTION: ------------------------------------------------------ -> So thanks to @SiliconSteak for pointing this out but my OLED comparison is pretty much null and void. So, he helped set up my monitor's profile correctly. The issue was I had local dimming off, which completely washes out the image. I messed up with my HDR settings. Make sure you've got your HDR settings enabled AFTER turning on local dimming. If you do it before, the monitor will glitch out and not enable it. With local dimming on, the contrast is sooo much better, very much in OLED territory. You can still see some blooming on dark content, but it's very negligible. Sorry about the major mistake here guys, I'll do better!
8:52 did you enable the dimming zones? they aren't active by default. Watching this on my Inncon monitor is weird because I can see deep blacks here and the grey on your new monitor.
3:34 lol you got my best clip
Looks like a really nice display (I'm looooong overdue for an upgrade)! Awesome video as always
This youtube chanel is a gem, keep the profund insight of yout reviews, you are unique.
I really appreciate this encouragement. 🙏 Its been one of those weeks and sometimes it's just nice to hear something like this. Hope your day is going great!
audio balancing issues aside, this video is extremely well put together, to the point i was surprised to see that you're BELOW 1k subs. fantastic job, i am excited to see what else you put out! :)
I'm shocked that this guy is not more popular
dude this was a fantastic video! loved the opening. AYA Neo really took such a shotgun approach to releasing handhelds, it's actually insane. in the amount of time that the original Steam Deck to the Steam Deck OLED release, AYA Neo had already released like 20 different handhelds. I think it also really shows that Valve took a very smart approach when it came to the Steam Deck. Going with a custom lower end chip that maximizes on efficiency is the better approach from an actual handheld gaming perspective. all these other handhelds run on either Z1 extreme or 7840U equivalents. Dont get me wrong, they are amazing in terms of pure raw performance, but their low TDP performance just falls apart so quickly on them. when 15W is already starving the chip, trying to get even close to 10W is just a disaster. I really wish AMD would take the handheld market more seriously and actually release a widely available chip that is a real competitor to the Deck's APU. AMD has all the lego pieces there to make something very interesting. These chips are so iGPU limited that the CPU is rarely ever going to be a bottleneck. I would rather AMD use 6-8 Zen4c cores, 8 RDNA3.5 GPU cores, and if they're based enough, add support for LPCAMM2. I think 15W at a maximum should be the target for these handhelds. Competing with Valve on value is impossible anyway since no one else has Steam to subsidize the device, so competing on performance is the only real option left for anyone not named Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft. Getting as much performance as possible at 15W should be the main priority, not just juicing up the TDP and calling it a day. I really enjoy my ROG Ally, but the battery life is just so abysmal if I want to play anything besides stardew or balatro. it just feels kinda silly to have a 1080p 120hz display when you have to run games at extremely low settings and FPS just to get it to last you longer while using the 15W or 10W TDP setting. It's a shame that rumors are that the next gen of the Z series is going to be one new top end chip, and just a rebadged Z1 Extreme as Z2 and the 6800U as a Z2G. on the plus side, the awful Z1 is gonna be dead and buried. Oh I also love how you matched the shirt with the Slide 😂
Well said Evo! I've always been an advocate for bespoke design with silicon. The more purpose-built chips we have for this niche, the better off we are with performance and efficiency. You see Valve is smart, wait until that jump in performance and power efficiency is there. Why rush out a new unit if you can squeeze out every last bit of performance of your current lineup? The next killer handheld should definitively be some 6 core, and 16cu device with exceptional scaling below and up to 15W. I'm with you. 15W should be where all these companies design their max around. Why do you need a 28W monster in your hands?? It's not a Dyson star lol. Alos thanks for noticing my shirt! It's one of my favorite bowling shirts!
There’s so many of these around
Would love to see you review the Trimui Smart Pro
Quick note for people watching. I am SO SORRY about the audio balance in this video. I have no idea how I screwed it up this awfully. I'm going over my project now and the music there is balanced correctly, very low almost muted, but on export it's extremely loud?? I'm not sure what went wrong but I will fix it for my next video. Apologies to everyone and my eternal thanks to those who actually sat through this to still watch. You really didn't have to do that, and I wouldn't blame you one bit! Until the next vid!
Good video overall! As someone who watches an unnecessary amount of (mainly tech) UA-cam, it's nice to see something new. My only thoughts to improve things is regarding audio. The sync seemed slightly out (even though I'm on wire headphones), and I think the background music is slightly too loud in relation to your speech.
Yes you're right! Something absolutely horrid went wrong and I'm trying to figure it out. This is the part of making videos I struggle with. I keep thinking that I'm making progress from vid to vid, but then I go and do something stupid and screw everything up again 😭. Next vid I should have this mixing crap down to a science. Thank you though, for still watching!
I do like the opening segment. Even if I didn't watch Seinfeld myself I do get the vibe just from that. When it comes to the specs I would assume having more than 16 gigs would be incredibly useful right? I am thinking of going igpu for my next laptop and 24 is as low as I will go
Do not get any device with less than 24GB. In fact? I'd recommend just going for 32 because you never know. Another company could decide to partition off 8GB of your 24, so then you're stuck with only 16GB of system ram. Just play it safe man.
@SiliconFox-s8d I only say 24 because Asus made a stex point laptop which is pretty cool and it comes with exactly 24 gigs, no more, no less. I will otherwise go for the 32.
The gba sounds the same way, as if it is emulated on the ps3. It is forsurea big bet that it is the firmware.
Love the video. How do you feel about the wideness of the screen?
I'm not exactly sold on the wideness to be honest. Some games look a bit stretched out imo, but it's not the worst I've seen. Some content looks really good to me, like NES and Super nintendo games. Mario Bros 3 was looking real crisp!
Awesome video. Love your shirt!
Thank you! I love the mess out of that shirt too!
kof 02 is super popular and has so many players in fightcade. also its more of a turn based character by character. kof03 is has a tag system where you can put in any character you want anytime you want. kind of like marvel vs capcom series. each kof game is different, each kof game has their own characters. kof is fun!
I like this guy! His candor is perfect without being insulting or rude. He still tells it like it is, not trying to sell you something. His delivery is spot on. Nice work, keep it up! Retro Game Corps look out!
Thank you very much! I appreciate the vote of confidence! 😅
Rad video, man! The way you presented and assessed this device was really engaging to watch. It's neat to see an oddly-designed unit like this one amidst the market of super sleek and refined handhelds on offer. I hope we continue to see strange designs like this that go their own way, especially given the trend of companies just cloning each others' successful products.
Thank you kindly! I hope more companies take risks with slightly wackier devices. Things get boring when everyone has the same form factor and design stylings.
Doesn't look very ergonomic, and why does it even have an analog stick? I do give them Kudos for trying something different.
china refurbishing old hardware once again, there is not a single console worth buying, even anbernic is refurbushing 5 years old cpu's, lame af
I'm still on the search for the "holy grail" so to speak. There's got to be a handheld out there that's not just glorified e-waste!
@@SiliconFox-s8d The Anbernic RG35XX-SP is my favorite of these. The lack of analogue sticks are a slight issue but the default OS is actually solid and it can run most dreamcast stuff well and everything else is buttery smooth and gorgeous. I think the actual holy grail is the steam deck or the RoG Ally, but for cheaper, the gameboy SP shaped one is great. Also, great vid I love your vibe. Subscribed
Keep up the great work! Love the tone, love the topic, love the delivery.
Ill stick with my hacked PS Vita. Plays everything up to PS1 without any issues, N64 has a compatability list and it can even play a couple dreamcast games. Another reason i love the PS Vita over any of the chinese handhelds is reliability. Battery life and reliability with chinese batteries is a concern with them puffing up after some years and the Vitas can easily be replaced and are alot more customisable. This is great tho for people less tech savvy, confident or younger kids that might yeet it through a wall and it hurts less if something cheap gets broken.
I remember having one when I was younger. It was my first experience with emulation on another device. I used to play Mario 64 a ton on it. I kind of miss those wild west days of console emulation, it was all so interesting and magical. Emulation on XBOX was another avenue I really enjoyed. I hope one day we go back to that
For GBA, the bios/core that was used for it was broken or out of date. This issue was present in SF2000 but it was fixed when it was flashed with multicore.
Ahh good to know. Thanks for the update.
The aspect ration is no good ma guy
algorithm bump comment.
Wow bro, good video. I've been watching these all day and you actually educated me. Thanks
If we take into account the performance in games and programs Intel did a great job. The problem is that AMD is more and more energy efficient from generation to generation with a slight increase in performance in games ...
Windows will die on x86-64 unless Microsoft forces the change like Apple. Emulation is not perfect and this will make ARM always second place on PC.
Great Video!!!!!
Poetry + Technology <3
Man your videos are awesome, prime material for my research. Let us know if you got the invitation.
Thanks, will do! I guess CES is the closest event, so maybe soon?! 😁
The background music is annoying
This music is a WILD choice for background filler, might have been ok if it was instrumental. Even then, it's pretty busy.
You could scan bottom cover and print version with bigger vents and also try lighter system like lubuntu or linux mint
Something like that is ideal for REMOTE DESKTOP connections. I've an ASUS E210 set to a basic HIGH CONTRAST color theme and connect to a few remote VMs at a time. VirtualBox is ideal for starting out, try LMDE. (Linux Mint Debain Edition).
Dude this was such a great video! The Y series from intel was always such an oddity. slapping the Core series name onto a bunch of extremely low power dual core CPUs was certainly a move. It would be interesting to see this thing running a linux distro like Mint or MX Linux. It might just give that iGPU a bit more headroom. Keep up the videos though, you're already doing an amazing job so I'm excited to see you do even better!
OMG! Not to fanboy, but I know you!! Wow I watch your mini PC videos on my personal account all the time! This is so cool! Sorry, but yea amberlake Y was definitely one of the cpu architectures of all time. I did do a little linux testing on the device, and for the most part it works just fine. Much lower overhead, better igpu accerlation support, and faster overall operation. My biggest issue was not getting steam to even install at all on this machine under linux. My Zorin OS install probably got borked, but hey? Such is life in our niche. Thanks for the comment!
You might as well buy a android tablet and have a much better experience on that than this. the only reason I can think of using this is for specifix X86 applications that are not compatible with arm.
Hoss im on the 10850k. Got a 3090 with it that amke my 1440p experience fantastic.
And my* thumbs
That was a cpu I wanted when it was new, but was just way out of the budget at the time. My rinky dink part time job would not afford me the 10 core 20 thread dream 😭
Error Lake is only good with a $200 discount to the 285K. Waiting to build my 9800X3D + 5090 gaming rig next year!
I am upgrading to Arrowlake and hopefully the RTX 5090 in the first few months of next year. I'm ok with Arrowlake been meh because i'm upgrading from a skylake 6700 so to me it's going to feel pretty powerful. I only upgrade every 10 years or so.
Is there a particular reason you're not going with AMD? I figure if you're making that big of a platform jump, Ryzen would be on the table? It's an even money lock that a 9950X or 3d variant will feed a top end card like the 5090, much better than the 285K.
@@SiliconFox-s8d I've always been a bit apprehensive about AMD. I'd have to research a whole load of info on it but I might consider it in the next few months as we get to know more about the shortcomings of 285K
I think its too early to judge 1851. There are many different features of this chipset that make it compelling for me. I think CUDIMM ram is underrated. I also wonder what the 285k could do with software updates and overclocked. Not to mention no hyper threading, sounded interesting on paper. This will be my 3rd personal system I've built and in the last two I ended up doing things with them I did not consider at first. I can't wait to see what I can do with it.
