I'm not surprised she did that for you! Every Brazilian I have encountered in the U.S has always struck me as a nice, decent human being. Brazil has its share of problems like the rest of the world, but Brazilians are some of the nicest people you will find, period! I went to college in Brooklyn, NY with an Afro Brazilian. The dude spoke 5 languages, but was humble, friendly, and incredibly nice.

I agree 110%. Met plenty over the years here in London (UK) and the first thing you notice is they're always smiling and of a cheerful disposition - even throughout the horrible UK winters. Secondly, humble and down to earth and always up for a quick chat and just spreading good vibes in general. The same applies to Brazilians you meet in Lisbon too. And I'm not even gonna get started on those there mulheres bonitas ....

It's because it's referring to Brazilians that have a predominantly African ancestry. They have a history that is distinct from Portuguese counterparts. And no, it's not an American thing, it's a Brazilian thing. They have similar racial divides to the U.S., though it manifests a bit differently.

Take into consideration that it's a little bit different if a regular countryman asks you for a help vs a foreigner, that is clearly lost and has a language barrier. Many people would turn out to be more helpful than usual in the 2nd scenario. Not taking the credit for what she did, she was amazing, but that might not have been the case if a Brazilian approached her.

I, as a learner of Portuguese, also have a hard time understanding Portuguese if it doesn't have a Rio or Sao Paulo accent. Yo man! I'm from south Brazil and I love Niteroi. I have a girlfriend there.
I laughed a lot on this video. Let me help you with some explanations...
13:07 it's not an afro area... it's just a bus station. LOL
23:06 they are selling dental care services (LOL) that shop is a dental care clinic and they were offering you a dental check-up. But then you started talking about the camera so they changed the conversation to go along with your talk. LOL
25:50 this guy was in front of an optical eyeglass shop selling their services (LOL), he offered you a sight exam and an "orçamento" (a budget estimation of total costs for a new glass).
32:31 the girl said the ferry is faster than bus, but you didn't understand. She said "barca" (ferry boat) but you kept thinking about the bus. LOL
37:53 the other girl didn't accept money because of 3 things: 1) she was really just trying to help a tourist, just a regular working girl helping a tourist. 2) in Brazil we don't have the "tip" culture. 3) she was afraid to be mistaken by "sexual service" girls, because we all brazilians know we have sex tourism in Brazil and she didn't want you to be mistaken about her help. Maybe if you said "por favor, eu insisto" (please, I insist) or "vou me sentir mal se você não aceitar" (I'll feel bad if you don't accept it) and somehow let it be clear that you didn't want any sexual favors, maybe she would accept. MAYBE.
Please do more videos in Brazil man. If I see you on the streets I'll try to help you.

🤓🤓It's a form of Portuguese, it has a different dialect, in other words it's like speaking Dominican Spanish and Mexican Spanish. So it's like Portuguese but with the native tongue of the people that lives there in Brazil.
In another words if the people from Brazil go to Portugal, the Portuguese people will understand some of the words but not all the words due to the native tongue of the Brazilians.
This is why I tell a lot of people, people in South America really do not speak Spanish, they really do speak their native tongue. We only call it Spanish because they was conquered by the Spaniards, excuse me they were occupied by the Spaniards for a short period time.
Example we say that both people from Panama and Puerto Rico speak Spanish but the dialects are different, some words we can understand (some of the words) but not all the words.
I hope this will help you out my brother and by the way I love your videos.

@@mpforeverunlimited do they really speak different languages I did not know that...Smh🤓😂. I guess that's why in my comment I use the term " different dialect". This is why my comment stayed focused on Spanish, not that Spaniards spoke another language from each other, just a different dialect.
And let me clarify, excuse me simplify this because I see people read too much into some things because I know that everybody that speak Spanish ARE NOT Spaniards (to the people that lives in the United States). And this is coming from a brother that grew up in the projects (which we like to call low-income houses now) with Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Panamanians, Cubans and Haitians, etc
. So I grew up into a rich culture. Different foods/(spices and Seasonings) different music different dance styles. Every weekend Community festivities just about any night of the week seem like someone was cooking out. This was the time when neighbors would get together bring their food together and feed each other, the time when we knew no strangers from the neighborhood, the time when the elders always kept their eyes on the children. It really brought the term "it takes a village to raise a child" to perspective it was beautiful, I had the best of the Americas except for learning how to speak English. People used to tell me "slow down you speaking too fast" I do not think I was speaking too fast I think it was just my accent was different. Then I learned how to speak French. And people have nerve to say that French is the romantic language, no it's not, Spanish is a romantic language, it is the language of love here in the Americas (notice I said here in the Americas). French does not roll off the tongue Spanish rolls off the tongue.
When I think about it now I would like to thank you, replying back to your comment, took me back to a place where I can reminisce about the good times in life.
This made me think about what's missing in today's society.
Now I see what the colonizers did when they brought their colonialism and what they interrupted.

Regarding your question about the way they were speaking Portuguese in Belo Horizonte, there's no difference in the Portuguese spoken there or anywhere in Brazil. What you do have are regional accents: the accent from the northeast, from Rio, from Sao Paulo, from the south and the one from minas gerais which you were referring. Of all of them, the one from minas gerais is the most melodic, cozy and charming. You weren't understanding probably because you were tired or stressed or confused. I'm sure it would be ok for you in a few hours or days. Cheers.

Hey dude! About your doubt in 26:52, the people of Belo Horizonte speak the same Portuguese as all of Brazil, but they have a different accent, Brazilians from the south have a different accent than Brazilians from the north or center of the country. By the way, great video man, I hope you enjoyed Brazil!!
