  • The full video is on RUMBLE see FortuneCookie45LC. - - So the value accuracy trick with our 22LR guns is we have to balance 1 )accuracy potential of our gun, 2) accuracy potential of our 22LR ammo, 3) cost of any particular 22LR ammo and 4) purpose and use for the system. For example, if we have an accuracy build 10/22 or a very accurate 22 bolt gun, we won't settle for ammo that gives us flyers or half flyers with every other shot. We simply want one hole 10 shot groups at 50 yards. But for hunting, we might very well be happy with adequate size groups while having flyers every 5th - 8th round. For plinking, anything that functions while rolling tin cans will do. Let's explore all of this in this video (culled for UA-cam)...

I like carrying my old Marlin 39A Mountie. The gun carries nicely and it functions very smoothly.

Thank you! I have had a 1976 -9422 since then. I have shot thousands of rnds and found good and bad grouping ammo. And just last fall - I used that rifle to perform a win - in a competition at 50 yds with a squealer balloon shot. Nice work SIR!

Wow. I thought my Henry Frontier Octagon lever action 22lr was nice until I saw your Winchester 94/22. That is one fine rifle.

    FC,
I found that Blazer and Aguila 40gr. lead round nose shoots very good groups in my CZ457 Jaguar .22lr, and my Marlin 39A .22lr. , and the price isn't too bad. About $5 a box of 50.

I've tried many different brands of ammo with one of my Ruger 10/22 rifles. At 40 yards it likes the CCI standard velocity best to remove nasty pests away from my Martin houses. I use a Simmons 3x9 scope.

The lapua is great .22 ammo for sure. I’ve shot good groups at a 100 m with it It’s just so expensive 🤙🏼

I remember you could get 22lr. ammo for 1/2 to 3/4 a penny per round! Today things are way out of wack!

I have good results with the Eley, CCI, and RWS. Lapua is a smidge more expensive. I have probably shot more than 50K CCI and never had a malf. with all fours, maybe closer to 80K. Never had a malf and most of it through the seven years I was really shooting. I have bought some bulk packs from other bands, that is where I gave had a few malfs. Other than that, Embrace and enjoy shooting. It is therapy.

I have a marlin model 60, from the early 80's. It actually shot best with the cheap blazer aluminum case stuff.

I’ve shot a lot of.22LR at my local small bore Rifle Club here in the UK, Most low cost due to Club Bulk Purchasing ability, and all Eley ammo to help get the best price for Tenex ammo to use in Competitions up to Olympics level ompetitions - a level many Club embers have Competed at, and tbh, I found Eley Target level ammo, and a few other types (sorry forget the names now, but all marketed for Club Level Shooters, all performed admirably, and not that far below Tenex, so great for Training and Practice Sessions. With Others, I also did a Lot of Pest Control, and we used Eley Subsonics through our Bolt Action Rifles with Sako Moderators to great-effect. Sometimes as unable to purchase locally, Winchester Subsonics were substituted, accuracy was benerally fine, but the number of Supersonic rounds in a box was unacceptable. Then due to an explosion in the Rabbit Population in several areas, it was clear that a semi auto rifle was needed, so I volunteered, and picked up a Ruger 10/22 T, Barrel shortened enough, and threaded for a Sako Moderator to keep the original Barrel length. Well it wouldn’t cycle Eley Subsonics, CCI cycled but accuracy was all over the place, others were tried, until eventually, the Remington dry lubed hollow point Subsonic worked like a charm through it, with no inconsistent powder loads causing supersonic loadings, and accuracy was great. Most Rifles used were BSA Sporters, CZ and Sako bolt actions. There was an old Mauser bolt action which was a real tack driver with open sights and with Eley Target, I got the ten ring in all 10 Targets on the 15 Yard competition Target, with Eley Target, which was a bit of a Jaw dropper for everyone, including me, if Ken the Competition Coach hadn’t witnessed it, I probably wouldn’t have believed it myself tbh. Best Wishes to all, and Safe Shooting. Bob. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧🌟🌟🌟

Thanks for the video. Very good info. I love my .22LR shooting but with prices now and availability, I decided to try the .22 cal PCP and break barrel pellet rifles. With the correct pellet I'm shooting 1" groups at 40 yards. I've taken 2 squirrels with it sense I purchase them. Im shooting 14.3gr at about 870fps. A lot of fun. You may want to give them a shot at some point. Again, Thanks for the video.,

I have a Benjamin Marauder .22 PCP with factory integrated moderator. I love all my .22 LRs as well but when I need something quiet that is what I grab. I'm not jumping through NFA Class III hoops to buy and own a suppressor when I can own and use this for nothing.

Great video, I have to say I have done some testing with my 52b and found out that the more money spend for 22 ammo does not mean it shoots great. I found in my 52b that the Winchester wild cat ammo shoots the best. I was surprised.

That was an interesting test. Thanks! Now it would be interesting to do the same test with open sights. How much better would the more expensive bullets be, under those circumstances? The groups normally should be bigger, but how much of a difference will we see with the different priced bullets?

Hello Fortune Cookie! Thanks for such a fun and interesting video!!!! Wish someone could tell everyone why .22’s are so different in accuracy from rifle to rifle from the same production line. I’ve always shot Remington Golden’s for 60+ years in all my different rifles I’ve owned. Most shot so so in accuracy, but all always functioned flawlessly including my semi-autos. Never ever a misfire!!! After retiring I purchased an old Mossberg from the 60’s. It was a basic single shot model. With a 12 power scope the rifle always shoots 1/2 MOA at 50 yards. At 100 yards it has shot 3/4” groups more than a dozen times. All this is shot in Arizona when the wind and dust was not blowing. Why would a cheap little rifle shoot like it thought it was an Anschutz model 54 super match target rifle??? When I lived in Southern California the old gun club I belonged to had an FFL, and could order anything the members wanted and we only paid sales tax. Everything was purchased from the wholesalers which handled shooting items. Once the club ordered 85+ BRNO #4 heavy barreled target rifles. There was no rime or reason regarding the ammo most of the guns shot the best with. Each one of my shooting buddies that got one of these rifles, liked different ammo. From real rotgut ammo to the most expensive Eley 10X, including one that shot Winchester high speed hollow point ammo like it was shooting Eley’s best ammo! Most liked some different grades of Eley ammo, and a couple of rifles shot could not hold a group with any Eley’s. All the rifles appeared to be unfired when delivered.
Wish you were closer so I could shoot some time. I believe your located near or around San Francisco. I’ve shot many many years ago at the long gone Pacific Rod and Gun Club when visiting my family in Menlo Park. Thanks once again for all your interesting videos. I love that you do almost all types of shooting sports.

I have yet to see high dollar premium .22 LR ammo live up to the hype and substantial additional cost as testing, picking and choosing your best factory ammo yet. Pretty funny watching people shoot $20 a box stuff and you are using CCI Standard Velocity or Remington Golden Bullet bulk pack getting the same or better performance. The difference being you took the time to test a bunch of different ammo in that particular firearm with that particular shooter. FWIW...I'm not one shooting a .22 LR much past 40 - 50 yards either. That is a job for .17 HMR or something centerfire and bigger.

If you weigh the “value” 22 ammo and sort them into similar weight lots, you get a bit better consistency with the ammo. Federal auto-match is actually pretty decent value ammo and is actually pretty consistent velocity wise, at least the few boxes I’ve had and used. The federal blue box bulk ammo is a COMPLETELY different story. That stuff isn’t worth buying most the time. Velocities are all over the place, and we all know as hand loaders, that consistency equals better groups. There’s no way you’re going to have tight groups when your ammo has multiple velocities. A 1200 fps round is going to strike one place, a 900fps is going somewhere totally different.
Throw those bulk rounds on a scale and sort em into small batches, you’ll be surprised.

Hmm... That 9422 does not shoot so good. My 9422 shoot an average of 15mm and seldom more than 20 mm 5 shot groups at 50 meter. (55 yard). It is the flyers that cause the 20mm groups. I once bought Eley subsonic and the best with that ammo was 28mm. I did not try other Eley or Lapua. With CCI Standard It regularly shoot between 10mm and 15mm at 50 meter and occasionally even less. The best it did with CCI Standard was 7mm at 50 meter. At longer distance the HV ammo does better, like the Aguila doing an average of 42mm at 100 meter, good for hare hunting. It is still not a match rifle but I like it a lot.

I understand you’ve moved to Washington. You better read up on hunting squirrels in WA, it’s illegal. I’m not trying to give you sour grapes, just a warning.

    • @JohnDoeEagle1
      @JohnDoeEagle1 Рік тому

Never heard of a State where squirrel hunting was illegal before. Birds of prey like eagles, owls, hawks and falcons kill 20x more squirrels than humans ever would.
