This Salt Changed The Way We Reef, Seriously. Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt Mix.

- Here at Bulk Reef Supply we've tried nearly every single aquarium salt mix for our saltwater and reef tanks. Not only that, but we've actually TESTED most of them as well. Time and time again, Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt has exceeded our expectations across the board which is why it's the only salt we now use for all tanks here at BRS.

Over 15 years and never once had an issue of inconsistencies or a bad batch. Can't ever imagine using another brand. Love this stuff.
I switched from Reef Crystals to the Pro Reef - never gone back! I've been doing reefing for over 30+ years and this salt is by far the best I've come across!
Ha.. now we just need to keep it in stock
Or lower the price...
@@marcelrodriguez2067, ha.. im fine with the prices. It's just hard to get any now a days
Just bought a bucket. The 200 gain is in stock. Just clicked the link in the description.
love the background music... just quiet enough to make you wonder if it was an accident
or boogie
I honestly was expecting him to slam it on the table with a heavy thud. Lol .
Missed opportunity! 😆
I use red sea.. mixes in 2 hours never had issues with it. Everytime I tried getting this salt its out of stock. So not even bothering
sweet now its going to be even harder to get this salt
So, what are BRS and Tropic Marin going to do to keep a consistent supply on hand? It's been around for awhile now, but the availability is spotty at best.
Lets be honest, supply issues mainly stem from the pandemic. This was in stock before hand... Maybe the increase in price to $110 will lower demand state side.
I went to the link and bought a pail. In stock now.
It DID change the way I reef. I couldn’t ever get it so I went back to HW.
Same plus i dont have to add alk since the alk oncthis is so low
For me, I went to Red Sea salt blue bucket, and I am happy.
I love this salt !
I love it. Glad I got rid of fritz.
Yeah I really want to use tropic Marin salt but it’s never in stock and when it is I can’t afford 50 buckets, so I do t had to worry about it being in stock. I have 4 Lfs near me and they are all Red Sea affiliated and always have salt in stock
Hmmm...I just started my first reef in over a decade...just a tiny pico...but I have been using Coralife salt mix due to it being one of the only salt mixes I can find locally in bags for 50 gallon...and it only costs me $15 CAN per bag. I do 50% water changes every week. Should I consider a different salt mix or just keep using the Coralife? My reef has barely been started, only a single frag and blue legged hermit that were added about 3 weeks ago, but the tank has been up for 6 months.
Ultimately, any salt mix will grow corals. The best advice we could give would be to start by picking mixes that match your goals for calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. Premium mixes like this one do have some unique advantages like mixing up very "clean"
I used tropic marin pro and loved it but due to the price and availability im now using marinemix and never looking back.
Gotta’ plan way ahead and buy extra when its available...I wish they’d do something about the formula to make the alk level at least 8...I always have to add brs alk wile mixing to bring alk levels up. But I switched from HW marine once I saw for myself how much clearer Pro Reef mixes.
Where i can see the brownish test
I've used many salts across the hobby and TMP is definitely very close to Red Sea blue bucket. The main difference is how cleanly it mixes in my storage containers, so well that I never really have to clean my storage tanks... However, with the supply limitations as well as increase in price, I'm not sure it's worth switching to if you haven't already... Slightly disappointing that the cost graphics were not updated accordingly. The 200G bucket is not $110.87 pushing price per gal up to $.64
any word on when it'll be back in stock?
200 gallon buckets are in stock right now: www.bulkreefsupply.com/pro-reef-salt-tropic-marin.html
@@BRStv Got 1! Thank you! Hoping to be filling up my new 180 in a couple weeks and will need every bit of it.
Very glad I switched so far. Far less brute maint compared to brightwell and Red Sea in my opinion
Hey everyone. I just bought a bucket off of the link in the video. Hurry up before they are gone.
Dude, ur on fire! Nice vids, now change ur cadence back to what it was B4 u started working for "V"...
Thomas my man !!
Love it, just hard to find in stock at the moment thanks to the big C word.
that's a hypothesis
Can I switch from red sea to this? What would be the best way?
Here is our recommended method to switch salt mixes

@@BRStv thanks. Just set up my 120 gal. Following the live sand, dry rock setup with Dr. Tim's one and only and a clownfish from your 5 minute tutorials. After adding dr. Tims one and only, how long do I need to wait until I can put filter socks back on?
Once mixed how long can I store it for?
When we did our salt testing investigates series, we found that Tropic Marin could be stored just about indefinitely with no noticeable drop in calcium or alkalinity levels. For most of the salt mixes we tested, as long as there was heat and circulation in the storage container, storage wasn't a concern.
What’s the deal w the bad batches of salt I’ve heard about?
You can find additional information from Tropic Marin at the link below. The salt affected was produced in their now closed facility in Turkey. All of the Tropic Marin salt that we have in stock at BRS is from their German facility.

What about the bio-actif version??
Here is a good guide on picking the right Tropic Marin salt mix for you 🙂

For those of you in the dark, yes this is good salt I'm sure. However, it's interesting to watch BRS support companies and that changes strangely by the deal they have with the supplier. I'll stick with Red Sea Coral Pro. I used the Tropic Marin Bio Actif for about a year, switching from RSCP. Let's just say the results were underwhelming.
Wait you all keep ALK at 7? Wow. That salt mixes low it seems.
If I’m lucky I get 6.5 DKH without buffering it.
@@MakerofThingss which salt is blue box? Thx
@@steevareno2002 red sea
Check HW marinemix the alk is 8.4 which is great for me.
Blue box for me here as well. Mixes perfect alk but I've experienced some Precipitation with storing it. What got me with this video is they say it stores well but I Dont want to buff alk all the way to 8.4 everytime
This salt is not readily available i would not ever get involved in a product that so unavailable as a store i wouldn't even carry it
If you can find it...
You can find the 200 gallon buckets here: www.bulkreefsupply.com/pro-reef-salt-tropic-marin.html 🙂
All I use
Very hard to get?
In stock now: www.bulkreefsupply.com/pro-reef-salt-tropic-marin.html
Tropic Marin is a great salt. But be very careful if you are changing salt mix brands. In my experience changing just from instant ocean reef crystals to Tropic Marin pro reef drove my alk numbers down quickly. From about 10. To less than 8. Which alk swings are very dangerous, we all know. Luckily I had Tropic Marin all for reef on hand, to help compensate for the low alk. It still is a great salt. Just keep an eye on your parameters and test your water!
@Dirty Bindippers I do have a smaller tank. About 40 gallons total volume. Display+sump. You're not wrong I should have done more research and knew the alk of Tropic Marin pro was lower than others. You think I would know better after being in the hobby for almost 20 years. It just goes to show that there's always more to learn in reefing and life in general! And again Tropic Marin pro reef is a great salt. But at the same time I was one of the unlucky ones that received a batch from the factory in turkey. Oof. If you don't know about it look it up. I still like the company And will still use their products, because they owned up to their mistakes.
This stuff is to hard to get so unfortunately I'm going to have to switch for the sake of stability. This salt has been out of stock everywhere for 6 months plus. I have no idea what's going on with that company.
In stock right now on our website 🙂
www.bulkreefsupply.com/pro-reef-salt-tropic-marin.html
@@BRStv Yes I know, but how stable is the supply. I switched to this salt and did a 60% water change on my reefer 250. Went through the first bucket and then bought another. Never could buy the third bucket cause it was out of stock for months. Some kind of statement should be made as to why they went so long without having products in U.S. Otherwise I don't see how I could ever trust them to supply me with any products on a consistent basis. We all know that stability is huge in reefing and not being to get that salt set me back.
I'm all looking for the skip button not knowing it was the video I clicked on ha.
😂
Changed from HW to this one, no difference. Alk varies from 6.9. - 7.8 per bucket. ICP test came back low in all trace elements, sample was collected the day after a w/c. My water change bin gets a brown / black is film on the heater, power head, bottom, walls of the bin along with the wires. It's ok but $$ when compared to other salts that perform the same. Imo the only benefit of how fast it mixes. However I make my water the day before a w/c so it doesn't really matter. A bunch of what is said in this video is a bit not true.
Used it for 6 months and it made no difference. It also only gave me about only 150 gallon for 35 salinity.
incoming flame war
Too bad it’s never in stock lol
Did you click the link at the end of the video? I just bought a 200 gallon bucket.
I don't know ANYONE ,who gets it on a regular basis. It is too expensive, and it already lies as to 200 gallons it makes 175 gallons ! Doc BC
There's not a salt on the market that hits 35 PPT based on sold volume, even the other brands in the comparison are ~20-25 gallons under marketed volume. They almost always "assume" 1.023/33
@AJ except Brightwell's salt mix 🙂 We found that their mix is pretty much spot on 150 gallons @ 35 ppt
ua-cam.com/video/T6dr1EB0Ss8/v-deo.html
Never in stock anymore.
In stock now 🙂
First here. Supppp
Everyone is crying about where to get it and how it's too expensive and bla bla bla. GUYS! If you own a reef tank with thousands of dollars worth of corals this is the best of the best. Amazon has a full stock with no issues. You can go buy there. Stop complaining this is the reality of owning a reef tank. If you want the best you have to pay for the best!
That price is no longer valid
Just paid 110 3 mins ago
why release a video on the most wanted and hardest to get salt there is? We were all convinced a year or two ago. "click the link" out of stock on 3 sizes lol
The large size is showing as in stock!
The largest size is in stock: www.bulkreefsupply.com/pro-reef-salt-tropic-marin.html
The goal is to have a video for every product we sell so that those interested can get an idea of what to expect before they buy 🙂
Dude. Try selling salt you actually carry.
I just clicked the link and bought a 200 gallon bucket.
Shit salt, KH varies so much from bucket to bucket and is always low, below 5dkh
No, that is definetely user error.
@@TattooedDancer91 BS, been reefing for 20 years, i know how to use Salt lol.
@@vpreef Obviously not. Or maybe you have exaggerated your argument? It's a world renowned salt, and you, specifically you, says the KH is all over the place... Right...
@@TattooedDancer91 Good on you for loving your product but i used to use it years ago and it was fine. The latest 3 batches for me the parameters were all over the place. Good on you if it is fine for you but for me i no longer use it. Maybe they had a bad batch? anyhow don't really care what you believe or think but just sharing my experience with the product.
@@vpreef You're not sharing any experience, you're just dumping on the product. Did you complain to them and have your batch tested? No?
Then you're just shitting on them for user error. Sorry to say.
Except they had bad batches from their manufacturing plants in Turkey 😢
