    This was the best surgery I have ever had. I just wish I wouldn't have waited so long to have it.
    It's been seven years ago and I am pain free!

      mlvlatina Did it make your hand weaker? It's cutting a ligament, which seems to render that ligament useless. Isn't that ligament important somehow? Is your hand still as strong? Thank you!

      mlvlatina how long before you were pain free after your surgery?

    • @amedicabg
      @amedicabg 6 років тому +13

      It's no actually a ligament. It's called in Latin "retinaculum musculorum flexorum", which's job is to keep the ligaments in place tightly. However it being cut isn't likely to cause strength change. Hope it helps, cheers! (Second year med student)

    Having this tommorow finally. First my right hand, next month my left. I've had carpal tunnel since I was a teen. I'm 30 now and every day in pain. I cant wait for both of them to be done. (I'm ambidextrous so I use both hands equally)

    • @ramonteixeira6597
      @ramonteixeira6597 Рік тому +24

      I think the idea is that scar tissue eventually develops and connects the two severed ends which in effect, elongates the the ligament, creating more space and less likelihood of pressure on the nerve.

    So I just had that 2nd procedure done. As of now there's a bit of discomfort. I'm hopeful that the post-op pain will be minimal.
    I am happy to read that the surgery was successful and worth the having. We should all be so blessed with such outcome. 😊❤😊

      I am very similar to you
      Love playing guitar and playing video games.
      Few hours of playing games or just 30 mins on the guitar makes my wrist/arm flare up for days.
      I went to a physiotherapist in the hopes that they would be able to help me. They gave me stretches to do a few times a week but they do nothing.
      Really considering going to get it checked by a doctor in the hopes they can do something about it, and hopefully see if i can get this surgery

      glad it helped. Amazing how many people suffer needlessly when this is one of the most staightforward and reproducible procedures that ANY hand surgeon does. I do recommend endoscopic as the recovery is much faster but all decompressions cure the issue and be aware that most "exercises" do not resolve the issue if truly compressed. Ironic as those get the most views....

    I'm freaking 25 yrs old and I'm looking at having this done in the next few months. I'm right handed and I have also fractured my right arm and broke my right collar bone and also 2 weeks after that got into a car accident (wasn't my dad's fault as he was driving). I'm freaking terrified of needles even seeing me bleed from a hang nail makes me grossed out. But first within the next month or so I have to have a nerve test basically to confirm my neurologists diagnosis. I've tried the carpal tunnel braces and it has just gotten worse since I see him last (seen him yesterday) before that was 11months ago. As he's over an hr away. Yall may say that's nothing but it literally took forever to get in then I had to reschedule my apps due to my son needing me cause he was sick. I just started watching cause I was curious now I'm freaking terrified. But he says he's sending me to one of the best neurosurgeons there is in my state.

    Right hand first. then my left hand after right heals..then after my left hand is healed. need to get my cubical tunnel done as well in left elbow (ulnar nerve). think i'm in good hands so far. (pun intended. hehe). thanks for the vid.

    I had both wrists done laparoscopically six years ago at the same time! Bad idea! I couldn’t use either hand for about a week, and I was in absolute agony.
    And I’ve had the left one done again recently, open method this time though, along with cubital tunnel release surgery (elbow) also left side. Neither of which was particularly debilitating or painful post-operatively.

      I just had carpal tunnel surgery last week on my right hand. Pain wasn’t severe enough to cause me wake up in the middle of the night. But definitely had numbness in my thumb, index and middle fingers. My doctor said the EMG showed moderate symptoms. I opted for the surgery before it gets any worse which can cause permanent damage.

      it heals but longer and without pressure on the nerve
      in RARE cases, 3 that i can remember out of probably 5-6 thousand cases, there was true recurrance.
