Shout out to Zoran, and his awesome Rusty Gold Motoshop! Freddie, I was late to say that you must visit him, but you did so I'm very happy you had a chance to meet. Zoran has great moto gear, crazy bike builds, and he is just cool to talk to. He also has some brilliant looking bikes come by - you'd be amazed Freddie. Jovan from Serbia 👋👋
It's nice when someone is so enthusiastic about things that we consider normal in the Netherlands. Then you realize again what a beautiful country we live in. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Freddie and Monica. As a local i can tell you that the bikes that aren't locked are alraedy stolen, so they don't bother to lock it. Nice to see that you like our little country!
As a person from the U.S., I'll probably never get a chance to visit Amsterdam, so a visit with you and Monika is the best I can do. Wish I hadn't read the comment section before I added mine. I'll just be a dreamer and see what you saw. A beautiful city with beautiful people. I sometimes live a Don Quixote way of life- I'm a dreamer and believer in a much better way of lifestyle. 👍👍
As an American, I lived in Germany for 6yrs (military) & depending on your budget, you can make it a cost savings trip. As was mentioned the public transportation system is leaps & bounds better than the U.S. has, cheap too. Me and my wife took trains (bahnhof) with some into Paris, Austria, etc and had a nice relaxing day exploring and came back the same day. I haven't been over for a few years now however, I'd definitely go back and enjoy all of Europe. Cheers and remember you only have one life and time is finite, just enjoy it with those special people in your life.
Only 142K subs Freddie? I am surprised, coz you are hands down the best travel presenter/show out there. Keep up the good work, the big time is on its way.
Most of the bikes are locked, but with a simple wheel lock, the circular lock beneath the saddle. These are on almost every Dutch bike but not very common in the UK. These locks are very simple in use and take only 2 seconds to lock or unlock. When you use a bike for every moment of transport that is much more convenient then a U-lock or chain lock.
Amsterdam is actually a planned city from the moment it stopped being a fishing village. It was planned to flourish in trade, so city hall taxed on width to give as many houses as possible canal access. The merchant would typically live there with his nuclear family and have storage for the goods on one or two top floors. That's also why they lean forward and have a hook. The Dutch were wealthy enough to afford the huge windows, and it does get dark early here in autumn and winter, but the windows also saved weight on the soggy soil. Another brilliant foresight for it's day were the mandatory gardens in the back that exist untill today. They already knew a city needed green spaces. The public parks are mostly 19th and early 20th century, a time of city expansion and very interesting architecture too. Check the "Amsterdamse school" (of architecture), a kind of art deco mostly in brick.
The architecture, scenery, cyclists just riding around. i wish there was a way to see it without every single tourist either turning it into a dank pit or just overcrowding it. I went during a summer trip a few years ago and I just remember being high, sitting near the canal, peacefully watching the water to drift by as the canal boats chugged past. I love Amsterdam, even without the weed, it's beautiful
I grew up and used to work in Amsterdam, but somehow ended up in Northampton UK 😥 and seeing this makes me want to go back instandly. Most classic cars that you come across are converted to run on LPG, which will reduce the amount of tax you have to pay and is cleaner for the enviroment. nice vid thanks 😎
The bikes are locked only not with a chain lock or something like that. Most bikes have a rear wheel lock underneath the saddle, when the key is not in this lock then the bike is locked. Unlocked you wil have the key in this lock, so which means you are biking with the key in this lock.
Loved the way you tasted that lager just like it was a fine wine. Must try doing the same down at the rugby club on Friday night the lads will die laughing.
Freddie truly is a "naïve abroad"! The Carver vehicles have been around for nearly 20 years and have quite a cult following, even in the UK and US! Top Gear featured them a couple of times!
Hi Monica and Freddy. Beeing a Dutchmen its loveley to hear about Holland from an Englisch perspective. Just beeing Back from a Re Himalayen trip to Schotland i can only suggest a trip to Gent in Belgium. The most romantic and lovely cities of Belgium. Thx for your impression of Amsterdam. Please note that it is not the whole of the Netherlands. Thx you so much. Love your channel
Amsterdam might as well be a different country from the rest of the Netherlands! Or the randstad in general even. I much prefer being outside of it, everything feels more open, less busy and more relaxed.
Always a blast in our capital. However, if you ever find yourself in the Netherlands again Freddie. You should definitely visit the most southern part (zuid limburg, valkenburg) region. Probably the best riding roads of the country. Somewhat makes me think of the British country side 😄
Love the Netherlands been there several times... Yamaha motorcycles were the best when I was a kid in the 60's 70's...till I got a Husky....when I was 17 in 1970...I want to go back to Holland soon..
True. I always tell foreigners to just ask directions to the 'eye.' That works. 'IJ' is related to 'Ae,' 'Ee' or 'Die.' (pronounced Dee) in the (West-) Frisian dialect, all of which mean 'water'.
When I lived in Amsterdam in the early 1990’s cycles where regularly stolen when parked on the street. Maybe times have changed. I love Amsterdam, thank you for the video.
The Netherlands pretty much got the opioid crisis handled. The early 90's certainly were a different time when there were still plenty of junkies around.
Hi Freddie, sorry to correct you but Amsterdam does have a ulez, but only applies to euro 4 at the moment but is going higher in the near future. This seems to be rolling out for most larger towns/cities in Europe. Love the video. We loved Amsterdam but were robbed out of my wife’s backpack some years ago, but a plainclothes policeman following apprehended him and we got our possessions back. Enjoy the rest of your stay.
Always enjoy your tour and city videos, Amsterdam is a fantastic city, I've been going there since the 70s and still enjoy my visits . Next time I'm in Amsterdam I will definitely be paying Rusty Gold a visit.
Freddie, I’ve just bought the By City roadster in a classic green colour. It’s a simply superb helmet. Fits so well, the lining is comfortable. The visor stays shut via 2 strong magnets that really keep the wind noise to a minimum. In my opinion it’s as good as the Bell bullit if not better. Monika will not be disappointed with it.
Hi Freddie, that helmet you picked up is Bycity roadster 2, I have one in black for my bullet 500, I love it, best helmet I've owned, very light, comfortable also comes in 'Bone' for Monica 👍🏼 highly recommend.
THAT Shirt......THOSE Sandals....COOL Shades....did Monika really keep you off the baccy? Great watch guys...really enjoying your output and so many images to take in...its almost as good as being there !
The small cars you are referring to are actually like mobility scooters and are taxed as such. Obviously, they come with limitations like speed, etc. Basically, they are 4 wheel motorcycles and enjoy some exceptions on where they can and cannot be driven. The Carver does not classify as such a vehicle. It is more like a 3-wheeled motorcycle. Top Gear famously tested one in 2003
I literally picked up my new By City Roadster 2 ( in shiny black) from Sportsbikeshop yesterday. Fantastic helmet for the money looks amazing and very comfortable. I think Monica would be very happy with one .
This is an extremely flattering visage of my old stomping grounds. I'm new to the channel, I'm mildly worried about whatever the comments' Monika (Monica?) person has done on social media, but if it's cityscape capturing, video editing, and recording the Golden Hour perfectly, then bravo to you: Amsterdam has never looked better. This is a gorgeous video. If ever we meet I hope I happen to be carrying my cute tuxedo cat. Edit: Tried to carry cat. Cat said no.
Really enjoyed that, thanks for that. The laid back style of editing and presentation is really good compared to all the false hype , arm waving you would see on a tv show. I haven’t watched tv for years now ( in uk) get everything I need from you tube.

I love those carvers, used to work there too for a little while. Awfully expensive for the practicality tbh, but i'm convinced they can't really do more to cut costs. Over here an unlocked bike usually means the owner forgot to lock it or it's a stolen bike that is dumped or left for later use. Bike theft is very common. Little update my old coworker just sent me: Carver applied for bankrupty, they had a couple of quality issues according to the article he sent me.
Freddie, the Carver 3 wheeler is available in the U.K. as either a 28mph or 50mph version. I was in Malta recently and there was a Bolt (like Uber) one running around as a 1 passenger taxi.
Hi Fred and Monica, been tens of times with work love Amsterdam and The Hague. Once stayed in a district of The Hague scheveningen a coastal town. All inflatable bars for a mile. Live music in nearly every bar. Catch a tram out it’s fantastic not live music as like cold play but pianos, brass, pop all sorts. You are sat inside a warm inflatable building and the beach and North Sea blowing a hooley outside😂😊😊. This was a bumper episode
Enjoyed the video, brought back memories. You managed to capture the essence of Amsterdam that tourists experience. There is more to Netherlands than Amsterdam. I lived there for many years, a wonderful country to explore, Dordrecht, Utrecht, Breda, Giethoorn, I could go on. Take a look at the Itchy Boots series on her country. Enjoy.
You guys should definitely come back and then make a really nice motorbike trip towards Enkhuizen. You start your journey just outside Amsterdam in a small village called Durgerdam. Then you can drive along the dike that hold the water of the Markermeer where it should stay. Through Uitdam and Monnickendam you will end up in Volendam, which is a beautiful harbor village. Everybody has a unique front door entering their house. Still following the dike you get to Hoorn with a lovely shopping center in very small streets. Last but not least wil be Enkhuizen.
Hi Freddie many years ago I tourerd from Wales as far as Warsaw Poland. On the way back through northern Germany we ended up in a hotel in Amsterdam fantastic time & so laid back ..🎉❤
Bicycles - During a visit to Amsterdam a few years, some locals explained that cycle theft is extremely common. You replace your bike by visiting a specialist stolen bike dealer, it is just accepted. The unlocked ones were probably stolen awaiting collection…….for the umpteenth time !
You can park your motorcycle anywhere as long as it's not blocking access. Where you parked your bike is fine. The biggest problem is that once you've parked up, everyone else thinks that's a great idea and so parks their bike, motorbike around you. Sometimes you might find that you can no longer access your bike because you're surrounded by other bikes! But on bike crime, a lot of bikes are stolen. Bike locks are usually integrated into the bike itself, at the rear wheel. Very few people use D locks or chain locks in the Netherlands.
I just visited Assen/Groningen/Amsterdam last week. Netherlands is a great place to visit! I think there were even more bicycles-per-person in Groningen from what I saw.
I concur with you statements regards the height of the Dutch in Amsterdam; I’m the same height as you (6”1) and it’s the only time I’ve ever felt what it’s like to be a “small” man!
Great video of Amsterdam Freddie! I need those sunglasses in my life..... any chance of letting us know the brand name in a future video? Gracias amigo!
Aahaha, sorry to rain on the parade again. Amsterdam commuter here: No, you can't leave your bike unlocked. Matter of fact, you can't even leave it locked without it being stolen. So I'm not sure what the unlocked bicycles are about. Granted, lately bicycle thieves have been targeting mostly e-bikes/fatbikes, so maybe regular bikes are left alone a bit more. But having your bicycle being stolen is part of city live mostly. Secondly, motorcycle theft is also very much a thing. It could be that you're lucky, it could be that you're in a good part of the city, or that you have to be quite unlucky to have your motorcycle being stolen in the first place. But it definately does happen. Amsterdam does have a low emission zone actually, but only for diesel cars, depending on the year of production. And good choice on the Brouwerij 't IJ - IJwit beer. It's a delicious beer to drink in the summer sun.
Thanks for dropping by and now for portraying our city so beautifully. Was great meeting you.
Amsterdam really is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Nothing stopping you. Buy the flight and then just use public transport to get around Western Europe cheaply.
As an American, I lived in Germany for 6yrs (military) & depending on your budget, you can make it a cost savings trip. As a Dutchman living in New Zealand, this brings back some fond memories of Amsterdam and its culture. Great job, cheers.👍
My wife would never be able to park in Amsterdam she struggles parking at Wall Mart LOL ... Amsterdam is a great place. The Dutch are awesome folks.

Thanks for taking the time to portray my city so beautifully :) I love summers in Amsterdam.

Love your vlogs
Narration is awesome❤
We visited Amsterdam a few years ago on Christmas. Rainy and windy! Its a lovely city and we would like to visit on a spring sometime.
That little Carver car.
Look up the Carver episode of topgear. Amazing concept
Freddie doobz loves those coffee shops.
Really lovely episode Freddie, beautifully filmed and edited. Thanks !

Looks like a great trip and close to the UK also. I like the Rusty Gold Motorshop, He does some good short clips of the customers motor cycles.
Great city. My wife and I were just there. I also went to Rusty Gold! Awesome place. I believe the “IJ” diphthong is more of a “ayy” sound.
True. I always tell foreigners to just ask directions to the 'eye.' That works. 'IJ' is related to 'Ae,' 'Ee' or 'Die.' (pronounced Dee) in the (West-) Frisian dialect, all of which mean 'water'.
Watching this right after I arrived home in Amsterdam after my UK trip which was fabulous, made me feel blessed.
Thanks for confirming I live in the greatest city in the whole wide world !
When I lived in Amsterdam in the early 1990’s cycles where regularly stolen when parked on the street. Maybe times have changed. I love Amsterdam, thank you for the video.
90s thats a long time ago, but the 90s loved it back than times were batter back than ,life now not so good,
@@bearded653 Sone one told me the best time to be in Amsterdam was the 1970’s! Way before my time 😊
The Netherlands pretty much got the opioid crisis handled. The early 90's certainly were a different time when there were still plenty of junkies around.
We wanted to see you zoinked lol nice one
Aren’t those old Citroen’s just beautiful

I literally picked up my new By City Roadster 2 ( in shiny black) from Sportsbikeshop yesterday. Fantastic helmet for the money looks amazing and very comfortable. I think Monica would be very happy with one .
Thanks for this lovely video Freddie. Amsterdam has just shot to the top of my list of cities to visit. Rusty Gold looked just my kind of place too.
Beautiful love Amsterdam!! Do more! Admittedly my ebike gets more use than my classic 350 here in the USA. It’s just practical

What a better way to stay fit than cycle around the city. I like Citroen s , so it was good seeing that old DS model parked in the street.
Thanks @FB. Interesting/ inspiring video. Atb
Thanks for the wonderful tour & awesome photography!
This is great.
Looks like a great place to visit. Loved the bike shop!
Great video! Your choice of music is always perfect!

Hi Freddie many years ago I tourerd from Wales as far as Warsaw Poland. On the way back through northern Germany we ended up in a hotel in Amsterdam fantastic time & so laid back
..🎉❤
Welcome❤ not expected you would visit Amsterdam... I have been to twice, very stunning city... interesting is the museum of diamonds still existing?
Loving the Channel! Have been Binge Watching of late!
Very enjoyable - thanks.
A superb episode, Monica and Freddie!
You need to remember that the Dutch band cars from driving on Sundays in 1973 that make bikes popular
Great trip to Amsterdam love that ferry to Hook Holland
Thanks for the video. I live near Amsterdam , but do not go there much
Bicycles - During a visit to Amsterdam a few years, some locals explained that cycle theft is extremely common. You replace your bike by visiting a specialist stolen bike dealer, it is just accepted.

Wonderful as always!
You guys made it look quite inviting!
It’s lovely😃
Fear and Loathing in Amsterdam!
Nice shades!
Thank you🕶️
Wow, such a nice video about you exploring Amsterdam!!!
Yep bikers park for free anywhere in belgium too. Cheers mate
You can park your motorcycle anywhere as long as it's not blocking access. Where you parked your bike is fine. For some of the best motorcycle gear do visit Biker Outfit!
I can vouch for the ByCity helmet, great value lid!
I just visited Assen/Groningen/Amsterdam last week. Netherlands is a great place to visit! I think there were even more bicycles-per-person in Groningen from what I saw.
There are more Citroën Ds 's in Holland than in France! Very nice video ..thanks
Did not expect to see a Honda XL600LMF :) Was only riding mine today
Don’t forget a trip to Bruges guys 👍 oh and watch the film, In Bruges with Colin Farrell 👍
Freddie, all those canals and you have just inspired me to ride to Venice 😂 need a plan for a good ride in a few weeks time 👍
That little sandwiched house at 16:06 reminded me of Stuart Little !
Hi Freddie,
Welcome in Amsterdam i hope you like it here in the Nederlands 🇳🇱👧
Great vid Freddie.. Love Amsterdam and great beer 🍺
“How do you create a culture……?” With coffee shops!
I concur with you statements regards the height of the Dutch in Amsterdam; I’m the same height as you (6”1) and it’s the only time I’ve ever felt what it’s like to be a “small” man!
Interesting to know how expensive Amsterdam is .
Freddie window tax is where the term "Day light robbery" comes from.🤔
Great video of Amsterdam Freddie! I need those sunglasses in my life..... any chance of letting us know the brand name in a future video? Gracias amigo!

Amsterdam does have a low emission zone actually, but only for diesel cars, depending on the year of production.
And good choice on the Brouwerij 't IJ - IJwit beer. It's a delicious beer to drink in the summer sun.
It is very impressive as you say. Lots of bikes, and few cars, and the cars that you do see are practical and small. No WankPanzers to be seen!
