2" clears the dogs! That's my guess. I grew up with a Lane sawmill in the back yard (in Maine), very similar to yours, as well as two Ford tractors from 1956 and '58. I wish I still had them all today. This video brings back lots of good memories.
..shall i say it....the old Sawmill reminds me on the old times the Waltons worked hard in the bleu rich mountains....on TV ! I am from the Harz Mountains in Germany and a Sawmill was our Neighbour. In German they call it a "Gatter" Saw. They put several Sawblades in it and the Saw goes up and down, sawing many boards at one pass through. As a young Guy, i helped sometimes in the Sawmill ......long Times ago. And... i have all my fingers still onboard ! Kind regards from germany, Rudi .👍🍀
Your mill isn’t too far from the hardwood mill I grew up in. Ala Oak Flooring mill in Guin, AL. Daddy started it in 1956. I am the fourth generation in my family to sawmill. We had, after the tornado in ‘74, a 36” Precision rosser head debarker, a 54” circular mill, Corinth 36” carriage, 54” McDonough line bar re-saw, Crosley edger & homemade trimmer. A good day was 25,000 bd ft. I stated working there in ‘68 when I was 12 during summers. I can absolutely relate to your mill there. Used to buy tiesiding from a Mr Evans from Tremont, MS who had a mill like yours. It’s hard work but very gratifying. Keep up the good work! I enjoy the videos and esp the circle mill aspect. CS White Opelika, AL
I would love to see more action on the circle sawmill. I watch two other sawmill channels, both circular sawmills. Yours is the only bandsaw mill I watch, mostly because I came a heartbeat away from buying my own LT40, but in the end decided against the sawmill life. So, I watch it for the nostalgia it brings to me.
I have been a carpenter my whole life and live in a 95 year old house that was built with lumber from this property not by use but a family member of the people we bought from says that the lumber was milled on and old circle mill. We bought an LT35 and finally got to the house and are cutting our own lumber to build a new house . I would love to own a circle mill it just amazing to think circle mills made America
Circular mills require man power, best to have 5 men, any thing less than three is not going to run mill efficient. A good mill with 5 men can do 25,000 ft per day, They are only efficient for high production and require man power.
Tyler I have a grand daughter your age. .The Trike is a great tool for you and Mrs. Brit. The way she muscles those big boards I would suggest She is a Keeper. Thanks as always for bringing us along.
When I was a teenager, back in the mid to late 70s my neighbor had a mill just like this. It was a Frick I believe. This sure brings back memories. We had an edger behind where the slabs fall off. We cut logs from Mon. morning until lunch Wednesday and sawed the rest of the week. If we sawed them all up early Fri., we got the rest of the day off paid. I'd guess the last cut you left 2" is because you can't cut anything thinner than that on the last cut. A farm and a sawmill. Sweet. We never had any help as pretty as yours though. Thanks for the video. We didn't have a chipper, so we had to load those slabs on a truck, and we used a tractor saw to cut them into firewood on Saturdays in the fall. Beautiful corn.
That Frick sawmill is still built new today, and ever part for a Frick mill can still be bought new, thousands running today sawing ties. Exact same mills as was sold in early 1900s. All three sizes are built new.
I like to hear your old circle saw mill run. My dad owned one very much like it. He had 5 men working at it. The sawyer had a helper to turn the logs. The edger was run by the engine that turned the big saw. There were two men "tailing" the edger. We burnt the slabs or some times we'd cut them for fire wood and strips from the edger. The power unit was a 4 cylinder TD14 international, I love to hear your old Detroit.
There is a very easy fix for your water problem. Go to your local plumbing store and buy a sump pump and it will keep the water out. They will pump about 30 gallons a minute with a 10 ft head. Have fun and stay safe!
I LOVE A MILL, THE OLD SCHOOL ROUND BLADE, JUST HAS A SPECIAL, MY GREAT GRANDDAD HAD A MILL, IN THE 1800 HERE IN EAST KY, THE TREES WERE HUGE, GOOD LUCK
Ran a 00 Frick, w/ a 6-71 Detroit in ‘77-79, w/ a 3 strand live deck, log turner, Mellott edger in Roane county, WV. We used to saw 100-150 cross ties, switch ties per day. Went on to buy crossties, switch ties, mine material, fence boards for several treating companies over the next 35+ years. Nice little you tube video!!! If I had an off bearer like your wife, I’d go back to sawing again!!!Great that you re-built your grand pa’s mill!!
Them Dawgs that hold the log or cant down don't cut very easily and they'll also destroy the teeth on the blade! It was really nice to see the old mill back in action!
Thanks for revisiting the old mill. I've been around, but never worked on a circular head mill. Always been fascinated by the mechanics of them. Good video 👍
I lived in Amory MS from 1974 t0 1988 , 14 wounderful years. I LEARNED what good people and food are. Thanks so much for showing us a good family and the Joy's of Mississippi life.
Love the 2 cycle Detroit Diesel and the circular mill.! Please include this on occasion! There’s no one else on UA-cam who runs one like this! You may need to saw some cross ties for some currently unforeseen reason. Long li the Corley if that’s the correct
I recently stumbled upon your channel and I'm quite entertained by both of you. I find it encouraging that there are 2 smart, hard working and interesting people on You tube whom enjoy all their daily activities and are inclined to share all these things with me. Both of you are quite the peaches so keep it up !!!!
I used a bench saw similar to this in the 1970’s as an apprentice joiner and cabinet maker. Thanks for the happy memories guy’s, and still got all my fingers.
I Love the Saw Mill... I grew up with this style of mill. My dad was good friends with the fellow that owned it and we went there a lot, and needless to say ALL of our lumber came from there. You are a Lucky man to still have what your Grandfather used and are still using it like it should be. The corn looks great and I know it will taste just as good. Keep up that great job with the boat also, Looking forward to seeing some of the fish you guys will catch. Take care and keep the Videos coming. We all Love them. God bless & Godspeed... Jerry from over in Kentucky.
There was a circle saw mill on our farm in 1971. It was an International Gas Engine. Had no muffler. Very loud. Had a edger that ran with a flat belt at the same time the cutting was going on. The bark edge boards were edged right off the saw. Lumber and ties were stacked by hand. They loaded the lumber and ties onto a bob truck to be hauled away. They had a team of mules and a wagon to move logs to the logs roads they cut. I'm about to build my band sawmill shed in the same location. Out in the woods plenty of room for sawdust and slabs without having to be moved away from the basic sawmill sight. I enjoy all the videos and content you make. Happy 4th tomorrow!!!!
The thumbnail caught my attention... your content got me to subscribe. Great stuff. I'm exhausted just watching y'all work and hearing about all your projects. Thanks for sharing.
My dad had a Corley in the 1950's. Your 2" piece is a 'backer board' left thicker for clearing the dogs in a fast efficient manner for safety purposes.
I like the circle sawmill, I am old, we used to saw 2x10 oak for 40 foot trailer floors. It took 2 of us to keep up with the boards coming off the mill. Boat build will be good too.
I grew up in northern Arizona when there were “woodpecker” saw mills all over the country side. Sawdust was burned marking the landscape with plumes of smoke and the smell of freshly milled lumber. Your mill reminds me of the old mills. There is a certain poetry to watching it run through logs.
Great video many many years ago I worked at saw mill the owner had two mills going at once I ran a huge loader style forklift. I would unload the log trucks as they came in , feed the mills and load trucks. It was a busy mill I enjoyed the work but left it to go into work for the power company. I have good memories of my sawmill days
Great video and good job. The old Detroit is sounding good 👍 The trike is so handy and saves time. The boat is coming along nicely. Take care and have a blessed and safe day and I'll see you on your next video
We had a Frink power by steam. We found making the mill was much more fun than trying to mill all day. We got one of the earliest woodmizer LT 15s. That took over for the Frink.
Hey 😁 I worked at a mill like this in the 80s . It had a six cylinder screamer with a 52 inch blade. You could bore a sump well and drain into that . the pipe to the sump well only needs enough drop in grade for gravity flow to drain the box . you can find a use for the water.
My brother-in-law Built his daughter a rolling top desk out of red Oak lumber he bought from a local sawmill that had a half a load of semi-truck refused from to be for flooring in Quarter sawn red oak. Had blemishes that could be cut out in a 4-foot-long boards. We built it with a edger and planer I already had. Once built he took it to his beginning of HIS wood shop and he applied stain and poli finish. He recently passed away and his daughter (some 30 years) later gave it to her son to have a memory of his grandfather.
Yesterday, we were watching an antique sawmill at a hungry Hollow tractor show in Rice Lake Wisconsin that was powered by a steam engine. It was a circle sawmill just like this one is.
Great to see the circular saw mill working again. Fine looking sweet corn too. That's gonna be a great fishing boat. You probably got room for three Lazy Boy recliners in there, but don't install em, or the driver 'll fall asleep! 8^) Cheers from Canada.
There’s just something about hearing a circle saw ripping thru wood I’ve only personally worked with circle mills although I have worked at a vertical band mill (breaking down saw)
For of cool bring back memories um do you sharpen the circle saw yourself it looks pretty sharp n the band mill a little more work to sharpen but some people sharpen there bands yet the cost a lot more to do so well good job ty for sharing my beautiful spirit family of ❤️ 3
Good job you’ve got that tric when Brit is half way through cutting a log and Tyler has disappeared to the corn field. Brit can ride over shove Tyler on the basket and bring him back saying one job at a time 😂😂😂

Nice looking mill, In the southern states you see a lot of that drag chain to keep the sawdust away our mill had a sawdust blower on it and no you did not play on the sawdust pile when the mill was running. Nothing else in the world sounds the same as a screaming Detroit. Thank you for keeping the old mill and that old screaming Detroit alive!!
Those old two stroke Detroit's were badass
