      But then there’s his riff on Beef Wellington with a tomahawk ribeye! That is my all-time favorite episode. Instead of decorating the pastry with leaves and shit, he carved EAT ME into the dough. It doesn’t get better than that.

    Sam, you’re talking about what I learned early in life, when I learned piano, clarinet, flute, baking, cooking and typing: practice makes everything better. It’s not as much fun when you’re trying to be perfect; I’ll never be perfect, but I’ll be better and I’ll be happy. (I make really good schmaltz, too!) I loved when you shut those two chitchating chicks to stay quiet for a minute and they fumed. It was obvious that they couldn’t handle you or probably anyone else who tried to take charge of THEIR OWN SEGMENT. Eff them and everyone like them. Howard Stern did all of us a favor when he lauded that appearance.

    Interesting Sam. You have to know that the majority of folks have the same feeling about their work. The pay and job is so valuable these days that switching jobs is a huge risk especially when you consider the loses in benefits and seniority going from one job to another, they remain at their "job". Unless its the same field of work, you can't really negotiate those into your compensation. Oh boy, knowing the Today Show lied and cheated you as a plan simply tells us some things don't change and for that little amount of money. I guess it was worth it, you got some exposure in exchange for no pay.

    This guy is pure PR gold. He's the guy you want promoting your restaurant and talking to your guests. But, if it were up to me, I wouldn't let this guy within 50 feet of a professional kitchen. He's a good home cook and that's about where it ends.

    • @Johnywang1
      @Johnywang1 4 роки тому +1

      he has his own restaurant tho (not sure if it survived corona) but not all restaurants are 5 star. a gastropub or a diner is still a restaurant. and thats the kind of food he makes 3/4 star

    • @akasgsvirgil9503
      @akasgsvirgil9503 4 роки тому

      @@Johnywang1 Some of the best cooks I have ever known worked in diners and pubs. But, they all had one thing in common: They knew and understood proper cooking techniques. Those that didn't know, who were usually young and/or new, were trained by the more experienced cooks. Sam doesn't have that and yet, he's creating video content that's teaching people how to cook and make various recipes. In one particular video, Sam almost spilled a boiling pot of oil on himself precisely because he lacks proper training.

    • @JDBoelter
      @JDBoelter 3 роки тому +2

      That's kind of the point of his videos - "I have no professional training, but I eat well every day. You don't have to be a pro cook to eat well at home, either."

    • @akasgsvirgil9503
      @akasgsvirgil9503 3 роки тому

      @@JDBoelter No. However, the fundamentals of food and kitchen safety or the benefits of proper technique don't cease to matter just because you're in a home kitchen.
      If you're on a social media site creating content that features food you make and especially, you preparing it, you are essentially holding yourself out as a subject matter expert. Otherwise, what's the point? What if you wanted to learn how to play an instrument and the teacher you chose to learn from talked a great game, but didn't know very many chords or scales and could barely play them?
      Most of Sammy's videos contain the word "best" or the phrase "the best ever" or Ultimate" etc. Even the title of his channel, "Sam the Cooking Guy" implies a measure of expertise. But, he lacks expertise and I know this because I am a retired professional Chef with decades of experience. I have always said that if Sammy took a couple of weeks and learned some simple technique, not only would his credibility dramatically improve, but moreover, his final product would improve as well. Furthermore, he would be sharing that quality knowledge with his viewers rather than teaching bad habits and poor technique.
      Sammy's is an active member of his community and is actively working to help the restaurant community in his area by using his celebrity status in a positive way to oppose Newsome's stupid restaurant restrictions. in that regard, the restaurant industry as a whole needs all the "Sammie's" it can get right now. That respect he deserves because he's earned it.
      Cheers! :-)

    Sam, I’ve spent my career in an industry demonized by politics. I know your industry ISN’T being demonized, but the steady slow process I’ve seen in oil and gas is not that unlike the heavy handed process you’ve seen. Facts DON’T matter and if you’re in the way of the agenda, it doesn’t matter. The bureaucrats negotiate decisions in a vacuum. The empathy is lip service. I guess the difference is the hammer will come off your industry and memories are short. Watch FrackNation an old politically incorrect rebuttal to see the BS and decide for yourself which side of the argument seems incorrect.

    I like Sam alot and what he does and talks about when he's genuine, like in this video and some others, but over time, in my view, in his new videos he comes across as very self centered and spoiled by his successes (again, maybe he's not, but comes across that way). I like the former Sam more which I'm sure is still there but has been dilluted with the new more Hollywood Sam. I do wish him continued success, but it's not what I like to watch, no matter how good his cooking is.

      And if we continually ingnore those mistakes and accept wrong things as right, well then I don't know where you draw the line. Literal and figurative are opposites of each other, it is a pretty easy binary choice to pick the right one. Like yes and no. Black and white. If people fail that badly, then why are you defending it?
