I live on the coast of British Columbia, so lots of cool wet dark weather. I used to think it would be great to spend our winters in NZ summer. But now I’m older and tired of heat and forest fire smoke, i think it’s like to spend our summer in that glorious kiwi rain. Cheers, trangias rule!
Thanks mate. I spent a bit of our summer exploring your beautiful country, I'll definitely be going back someday. I would highly recommend a visit over here if you ever get the chance. I'm really enjoying the trangia, it's a fun little stove. Cheers
You’re quite welcome and greetings from Alabama. My son and I enjoy your videos and we love camping in the rain. Keep up the good work and we’ll be waiting and watching.
Great video! Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Re gas canister: use a digital kitchen scale to keep track of gas usage. With the BRS stove on medium I get about 100 minutes burn time depending on weather conditions etc. You can also get a ‘refill adapter’ which I find very successful. Greetings from the UK!
Thank you! Thanks for the tip with the gas canister. I've never been sure about those refill adapters but I might look into them. Glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers
@@BackcountryKiwi It’s a cheaper way of using the smaller canisters … just be sure to get a refill adapter with a valve then it’s dead easy. You’ll need digital kitchen scales too then you can keep track of how much gas is in there.
Well mate that seat made all the difference, that was some amount of rain and the ground turned to mud just about, imagine having to lie all evening and then sleep, good call with the seat I say, it was even the perfect height underneath the tarp. That was proper proper wet, a hard camp but you made it entertaining, nice eggs and makeshift camp cook set up, and on the gas, I have had the same experience, the smaller one seemed to last for ages, in fact my smaller one all the gas was used, but the bigger ones seem to stop working but there must be 1/4 of gas left in them, might try the jet boil now that i see it. Gald you got another mat, nothing worst than the regret of a sold item, good stuff mate👍👍👍😎😎😎
So glad I had the chair for this trip. I was keeping an eye on the puddle of water that was forming, it was getting pretty close to all my stuff haha. My windshield/stand for my trangia isn't the best , I need to look into some other type of pot support. Yeah I've found the bigger canister seem to lose some of their omph when they get low. Glad I've got another sleeping mat now, it's a super handy bit of kit. Thanks for watching Chris, glad you enjoyed. Cheers
nice setting there Zeb. I have a chair the same and been using it for a few years now. pack down small and they last. and cool to see you cooking with liquid fuel. I enjoy my alcohol stove cooking
I had a similar kiwi camping chair 2 years back, but kept loosing the leg end plugs in soft ground, it’s like you need to be on a ground sheet, and the extra weight on 6-8hr hikes seems extravagant, any issues with your chairs guys?
@@OutdoorsmanDave this was my first time using it, no issues so far but I know what you mean about sinking into the ground, I haven't lost any foot plugs though. Oh yeah I definitely won't be taking the chair on any super long hikes but for the more chill trips it'll be coming along.
@@OutdoorsWithCWest Awesome, I think mine had a design fault, the plugs needed to be riveted. Nature hike have cool, well priced gear, are they using you for product placement Corey?
I enjoy what you post. I find that it is informative and relaxing. I couldn't do it on my own so I like to tag along. You live in a beautiful area. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Bill. It means alot knowing that people are enjoying my videos and getting something out of them. The new zealand bush sure is beautiful. Cheers
The hike in was probably about an hour, maybe a bit more, definitely not a long hike but it was a nice chill camp. The chair worked great, super pleased with it. Cheers
Order from these guys. (If you want) barrettoutdoorsnz.com/shop/p/brs3000t-titanium-lightweight-stove Free shipping NZ wide so it will cost you pretty much the same price as getting it from Amazon. They have them in stock here so you will get it way faster aswell.
I've got a firebox stove too Outdoosrman Dave (the older stainless steel model). Though, the firebox mini I think is interesting too. Is that the one you have?
Thanks guys. Yeah it wasn't the nicest weather but I didn't see anyone else the whole time! Thankfully I've never had any issues with taking eggs in my pack (touch wood), I make sure they fit snuggly with some paper towels. Cheers
You done well brother. The xamp chair rocked. Nice to see some new gear tested.👍 fry pan great. Trangia worked great. Weather was nasty. Braving the rain, you rock! Nice to hear bird life.🤗👏👏👏👏👏 cant wait to see your next trip. What was your temperatures like?
Thank you very much Jason. It wasn't that cold. Hiking in it was really muggy, it cooled down a little bit but I don't think it dropped below 10°C. Cheers
Nice Video mate. I'm a fan of the trangia stoves as well. I know friends of mine that do a lot of caving swear by them. I've actually had issues on some of the imitation brands though (with thermal run-away). Yourself?
Thanks mate. I've never used any of the imitation ones, the only other alcohol stove I've used is the one I made from beer cans, I'm probably going to do a test between them just to see the difference in speed and efficiency. Cheers for watching.
@@BackcountryKiwi nice. You should do a video about how you go. :) The thermal run-away thing is actually pretty dangerous. I was in a hut some years ago, and the stove somehow overheated (causing all the liquid fuel in the stove to boil, and start shooting flames and spraying fire all over the place). Scary.
That was a fun video. I had the opportunity to live and work in New Zealand for a year and a half. Such a beautiful country. One of the highlights of my life. At one point you noted that the tarp would leak if you touched it. That used to happen with canvas. I use either silnylon or DCF tarps for my shelter, and that should not happen. Do you think it was condensation as opposed to rain leaking through?
Thanks Lawrence. NZ sure is beautiful. I'm pretty sure it was water leaking through as it only happened in the places where I touched it. I think it is common for ripstop nylon tarps. Could be wrong though. Cheers
Mate! I've got the Featherlight chair from Torpedo7, too. Reckon it's worth it for the back after a long day, especially when chilling under a tarp in the rain. How do you rate it? Our beautiful Kiwi forests can be dense. I wonder if hanging a few of those inflatable lights would help illuminate the scenery 😍
This was my first time using the chair but so far I'm really happy with it. I got mine in sale so its even better 😆. Yeah, I am definitely considering getting some better lighting, I'll look into those inflatable lights. Cheers!
Nice place my brother 👍🏻
Thank you bro!
I love that sound!
Thanks mate. As long as this aren't getting soaked it's awesome!
I love being in the bush
As do I bro.

Nice one mate, you’re nailing the colours.
Thanks bro. It's really hard filming in the NZ bush because it is always so dark!
Glad you liked it.

Nice, but pity about the poor weather. I use a Firebox Stove with my Trangia so if I run out of meth I can switch to a wood stove.
