    Laguna IQ CNC : bit.ly/2NlCGfb
    This week I am making a Spoilboard for my Laguna IQ CNC Machine. I have needed to do something with my spoilboard for my cnc machine for a while now. I finaly bought a fly cutter from Tools Today RC-2255. Its a 2 inch carbide tipped fly cutter, I wish I would have bought it sooner. I also used Armor Tool auto adjust P7-IL In Line Dog Clamp. These things are pretty cool.
    I used Aspire Software to create the tool paths to make this spoilboard. There is lots to learn on this software and I'm having fun learning and sharing with you!
    I hope you liked the Aspire software tutorial and the build of the spoilboard. Any questions please leave in the comments below or contact Laguna directly Here: 1-949-527-6160

    Totally making this for a “ small pieces “ hold down for my machine man !!!! Another awesome video in the can brother, thanks for the shout out !!! I agree with the post about making each function a new layer so you can drag select all the holes instead of shift clicking them on each of their layers 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Thank you for sharing this video and the sources. I have been looking for clamps like these for a look time without any luck but thanks to you I now know where to buy them for my next projects.
    My plan was to buy the Laguna IQ cnc similar to the one that you have so I can learn the software but in the end I decided to wait till AWFI in July to buy a bigger machine like 4x4 or 4x8 and hopefully get a better deal( did not get any discount on Aspire software with IQ machine).
    Until then. I look forward to watching your cnc projects.
    Thank you

    I use Vcarve with a Shopbot. I am learning a lot and getting some great ideas from you. Im getting a fly cutter now, Thanks! Oh ya, if you make a new layer it will automatically be selected and all your vectors will be on just that layer. Then just double click on any layer to select all vectors. You can also copy, paste, cut with keyboard shortcuts. Should help your order of operation efficiency. Keep up these great vids!

    Jake, I've learned a lot from you videos, Thanks. I've got a question: how do you like those clamps you feature in this video ? They look kinda high to me and would be subject to a spindle collision. BTW, I just purchased an IQ with Vcarve. Your videos were a major factor in my decision.

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  5 років тому

      Thomas Rispoli That’s Awesome Thomas!! Those clamps are kind of high, and they try to push the material upwards while clamping.. the Kreg clamps are better in my opinion, and they are half the price. I use them in the videos after this one.

      It’s pretty good.. if you notice I have 2x4’s stacked on the side under the control box. Maybe setting the control box on a adjacent table would be better. I did put extra support boards throughout the table, the cnc weighs over 400 pounds. I hope this helps!! 👍👍

    I am new to cnc work and find your videos very helpful. I purchased this bit on your recommendation. My RC-2255 is a 2 1/2" cutter but you refer to yours as a 2" in the videos and the comments. I have to enter the bit into my database and the Amana speeds are very different than what yours are in the video. Do you find your speeds to work well? Any advice?

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for watching the videos. I would go by the charts that Amana has for speeds and feeds.. I did this video years ago and the speeds and feeds worked for what I was doing but I would trust the Amana site.

    Thanks for the video Jake. I am really interested in setting up a spoil board like you did. I really like that idea. But I have a question? I have looked at Armor Tool's website and watched all of their video's, but I cannot find a clamp like the ones in your video. All of the ones I have seen have black plastic looking wedge thing on them and it looks to me that they are long enough that you would have to drill dog holes about 3 inches deep, or completely through the spoil board in order to use them. Your's don't look anything like that. How long is that portion that actually sticks down into the dog hole on your clamps. I would really like to use these things but if I'm correct about this I would have to drill down and through my aluminum bed or make a spoilboard about 4 inches thick. I sure would appreciate hearing from you about this as I'm sure there is something I am missing here. Thanks again Jake for a very interesting and useful video.
    Respectfully
    Jim

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  5 років тому

      Jim Scott Thank you for watching the video.. I took the black part off so the part that goes into the spoilboard is only 1 1/4 inch long. These clamps do tend to try to push the material upward but I have learned to deal with it.. I think a cam style clamp is probably better.. look at @gotwoodworkshop on instagram

    Myabe my new IQ is broke? When I set the XY and the Z it travels to different places? For example. I zero out my Y on the surface of the work piece. then when I hit go home, it says that the Y is now 40MM but I measure it at 52MM. So when I start my program it cuts 12 MM too high? I also set my table dimensions to 500 by 800 and still the X or Y will go all the way over and jamb up really messing up the original XY home???

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  5 років тому

      Larry Stringfield when you save the tool path.. there’s a drop down box with all kinds of cnc machines listed. Did you set that to save for the IQ?

    • @TheLarryLuke
      @TheLarryLuke 5 років тому +1

      OK, got it figured out. The new IQ was not calibrated. Now I use 319 pulses per MM for x and Y.
      It is a good idea for anyone to draw3 a 10x10 inch square and then cut it. Now measure it to be sure it is 10" square.
      If needed adjust your pulse per MM numbers until you get it a perfect 10 inches by 10 inches.
      Now do the same for the Y travel. Use a dial gauge if you have one.

      @@brettwright392 Hi Brett: I modified Jake's spoilboard when I designed mine. Rather than use the 3/4" dog holes, I drilled holes for T-Nuts on 2" centers each way. I use the same type of clamping system that Jake is using, but my clamps use a T-Bolt. I cut 8" long pieces of T-Track and drill two holes on 6" centers for hold down knobs that secure the T-Track to T-Nuts that inserted from the rear of the spoilboard. This allows me to reposition my clamping system anywhere within the 2 x 2 grid.
