If you're going to package these as gifts or otherwise, I would recommend installing the blade backward and using small screws so the recipient doesn't cut themselves. They can turn it around when they are ready to use it.
I have replicated almost everything you've posted (not the Easter bunnies or dice) and I likely won't be doing this particular project, but I have to feed the algorithm!! Keep the hits coming, though. Love your work and teaching skills.
G'day! Aren't you a pleasant surprise! You must be one of the few USA youtubers whom I haven't had to turn the playback speed down to .75 so that I can hear what you are saying. Plus, no music, great projects with real talking (not silent), easy to understand, fab demonstrations, sometimes funny guy, honest about things that don't work well for you then show a better way! Not only am I impressed with you, there's a fair chance you are also influencing your own generation and our future is in good hands. You're outclassing your President and Ex-President. Well done! Yeah, I subscribed about a week ago. Thanks! 😎 👍
Thanks buddy! A big pet peev of mine is the click bait woodworking and when they "show" you how to make the project but hide the measurements so you have to buy the plans..as if they dont make enough from the video ads.. greedy :P
Great idea for a small project! You could even make it wider to hold more than one roll of the same kind or different kinds. Happy Birthday Jim! Stay safe and Happy Building 😁
thank you so much for showing me this, it never accured to me to have one of these for my tape or the shop. love it!!. I will be making this very soon.
Nicely executed!! That was something I haven’t seen anyone do as you did. I like the design. I might improvise one that holds different sizes of paper tape and lighten it up a bit. Great job!! Always got to think outside the box!
Bonjour and Happy Birthday Grandpa Jim! Love this project! I’d saved all those tape dispenser edges bcuz I thought they would be useful someday- They laughed at me for saving those! Who’s laughing now?! Mwahhahahaha!!!
a couple ideas 1. add a french cleat to it and throw it on the wall. never lose your tape again 2. it's easy to adjust for different widths of tape- + or - a piece in the middle 3. make it really wide to hold plastic wrap or foil in the kitchen 4. make a biggun to hold multiple rolls of tape for a tape station I'll be making this soon. I'm digging the mahogany tape dispenser. such a nice and expensive wood for a plain Jane utilitarian piece.
Nice project. A pin nailer and super glue could also be helpful. Instead of gluing patterns onto a blank, I glue it onto shelf contact paper. It comes off easily and I can reuse it. If I'm making a project often or years later, I'll make template with thin plastic or hardboard.
Love your videos! You have a lot of personality and a great sense of humor. Happy Birthday to Grandpa Jim! I don't know how old you are... But with age, I find you can't have too much duct tape. 😊

I bought that bench sander about 30 years ago. It's made by Bosch. It lasted about 25 years. The front roller bearings cratered on me. I bought another one just like it.
You always have creative ideas! I’m going to make a couple of these for the garage. Have you made any for thinner tape? If I can figure out a thin tape style, I’ll make one for scotch tape for my daughter. She uses more tape than any one person should lol.
Same with the wife :P if you just put two boards in the center instead of three it's now thinner :) andddd use maybe some 3/4" material for the center tape roller :)
The dimensions are tricky to add without also adding the angles, its roughly 5-1/4" x 8", the template is a full 8.5" x 11" paper-size if you print it to fill the entire page :)
@@WhosTheVoss thanks, I was just looking for the “envelope” dimensions. so if I had to scale the print I’d have some idea by how much. Appreciate the reply.
I wonder how well these would attach to a bench? Though the portableness of this would probably be better. Just move the dispenser to where you're working as opposed to having to go to the dispenser.
Wow, I am definitely subbing 👍 Nicely filmed and put together. You are funny and a good craftsman which is awesome but the best is your hair and chin strap beard 😁 Looking forward to seeing more of your projects bro 👍
@@WhosTheVoss only pre drill? Countersinking should prevent the splitting, shouldnt it?, but yeah I know its quite "dangerous" at the edge. Easy to break.
Instead of using a jigsaw blade, with cling wrap ( I think you call it plastic wrap, to cover food ) or aluminium foil wrap and the metal blade thingy that is on every pack to tear away the cling wrap or aluminium foil. It's easy as to cut, you can do it with scissors and you dont have to buy anything extra just keep an old box or two till you need it

Looks like your "tape measure" off cut can be sold as a phone holder with a pencil holder in the back (drill a large flat bottom hole). 😉
That would be slick!
Happy birthday Grandpa Jim!
Thanks Bob! :)
I bought that bench sander about 30 years ago. It's made by Bosch. It lasted about 25 years. The front roller bearings cratered on me. I bought another one just like it.
I love my little sander, i need to replace the front sanding disc and it looks like its a pain in the arse. Its gunna happen real soon though lol
@@WhosTheVoss It is a pain. You have to take the cover off on the bottom half. I use a paint scraper to get mine off.

Your cut out looks like a snail. Add some dowels for antenna and make a cookbook or tablet holder.
🤣🤣 love it!
I wonder how well these would attach to a bench? Though the portableness of this would probably be better. Just move the dispenser to where you're working as opposed to having to go to the dispenser.
Ive seen people put french cleats on the backs of them to have multiple tape options, and keep the portability
Great idea, maybe something with the 1” or 3/4” tape width?
You could thin down the interior and make it for a thinner roll :) i didnt think about doing that :p
Cool idea👍🏻🤛🏼
Thanks buddy :)
@5:02 its like a POV of a mini drone 🙂
🤣🤣 now all I think about is a baby drone flying around the shop! Thanks Phil :)
I like the Dysney song start 🎉😅
🤣 thanksss :)

The metal cutter pops right off with a flathead screwdriver on the one's I use..
Lucky duck! Mine are secured pretty good 🤣

Use some tin snips and cut up an old hacksaw blade drill holes in it or just glue them on
👍 thanks buddy :)

@@WhosTheVoss Great work, man. I don't know why I never thought of making something like this!
Hack saw blade would do the trick for a tape cutter thats easier to drill through.
Thanks buddy :)
Didnt it break (the part you didnt screw but glued) because you didnt countersink the holes?
Ohhhhh i pre drilled the holes, the thin area still snapped
@@WhosTheVoss only pre drill? Countersinking should prevent the splitting, shouldnt it?, but yeah I know its quite "dangerous" at the edge. Easy to break.
Or use hack saw blade, cut a piece and glue it on.

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH nail counter !!!!!!

Use a hacksaw blades
👍 thanks buddy
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GRAMPA!
Thanks :)
I have repeatedly tried to print this template, but it winds up being giant and takes 3 pages.😢
Dang! Sorry buddy, its ratio is 8-1/2x11 normal size sheet of paper. Maybe downloading the image and printing it as a document 🤷♀️ printers suck lol
@@WhosTheVoss template for tape dispenser
If anyone is making a bunch of these, might be worth making a template, and using a router.
Oooo a plexiglass template would be cool :)
Tempered metals. Just heat it to red color and let it cool down. Now you might drill it. Not work every metal.
Or use anglegrinder and cut small cuts for screws.
Interestinggggg, ill give it a go :)

@@WhosTheVoss It's trademarked now I decided you can't use it... lol
An old hacksaw blade , sawzall blade, etc would work
Use a hacksaw blade
The wider one got a hacksaw blade :)
The worst tool in my shop is the band saw. Five years ago I turned the tip of my right thumb into a Pez dispenser.
Ouch!!
Why drill and screw a Jigsaw blade when you could just glue it on ? ...
Goood thoughtttt :)
But... which one did he choose?
We'll find out tomorrow! :) he lives kind of far away, ill make a post about it
I had to rewind & think of who the hell keeps a rental giraffe in the kitchen🤦🏻♀️😂 ohhh renolds wrap, got it!!! Don't try to youtube & nap people...
🤣🤣🤣
HOW ABOUT ALSO USE HACKSAW BLADE CUT DOWN
I did, on the wider tape dispenser
@@WhosTheVoss The first time you said Jigsaw blade and later you said hacksaw so that's why viewers are confused. Love this build!
