The most underrated musician in my opinion is Andy Timmons. He's totally original and I can't help but be reminded of Eric Johnson when I hear Timmons play.. He is amazing
Timmons is a guitar player's musician. You play the guitar until you realize that you don't play the guitar. Unfortunately he isn't enough of a showman to be big in a odd industry where showmanship often trumps real talent and skills.
Daniel's expression between 8:04 and 9:22- my face for every Andy Timmons tone. Ever. He's my desert island tone guru. Just nothing about it is wrong! So. So. So. Beautiful! I keep coming back to this video because of that tone and Daniels reaction. Let's face it- Daniel moves with the heaviest cat's on the planet- and even he is blown away by what AT can do!
You're so correct. I always come back around and listen to AT. Something so pure about his tone and the way he writes. I wrote him via snail-mail 3 years ago and he actually took the time to write a short note back....very cool! If I had to pick a guitarist who I would respect the most.....and I'm picking from an enormous pool...Vai, Satch, EVH (RIP), Eric Johnson, and many more, it's his tone and playing style I like the most. Every note has purpose.
very, very nice! Thank you Daniel so much for this awesome interview! Andy Timmons is one of my favorite guitar players! His tone, time and phrasing, just wow!
Excellent. What can I ever say to express how much I enjoy Andy Timmons tone, melody and capabilities matched by his selection of some of the most incredible equipment and expertise possible. Always a joy. Thank you so much.
I just became a huge fan of his love the way he plays such a down to earth person with the most incredible talent and sounds beyond breathless hope to see him in concert central florida
+yumadapaka Andy is a nice guy...I wired a treble bleed cap in the Strat I rewired for him but ended up changing the 220pf cap for a 470pf A lot of guys like that more extreme bite as they roll the volume back.
Bridge is Dimarzio Signature AT-1 HB ; neck and mid are Dimarzio Cruisers - not sure which ones - did read somewhere that they were both bridge models ?
I met Andy 20 years or so ago when Thorobred music had a big event in Clearwater, FL. What a nice guy, so glad he has been able to stick around the business for so many years. Great tone master.
I’ve got a stock Blues Driver, and I have to say it’s easily my favourite drive pedal. I’ve had many but the fact that I can gain it up and still get a crystal clean tone out of it is absolutely astounding, and blows pretty much every other drive I’ve ever played out of the water.
Words fail me to describe Andy’s sound. The only way I could describe it is it (blooms) and I still feel that word is inadequate. His sound has so many complexities and little nuances to it. All I can say is it’s incredibly well thought out. Andy knows his tech side as well as he plays. And to put the icing on the cake he’s a wonderful human being.
Dan is a great musician himself and truly appreciates Andy's musicality. I'd put Andy up there with Satch, Vai, SRV, and Ian Thornley as an example of a musician who gets melody so strongly it comes out of them like a conscious stream of consciousness. Between Andy Timmons, SRV and Ian Thornley I'd never be able to choose a favourite.
Hey Daniel, the way you love this stuff so much is as much an inspiration as Andy's playing. You really connect the technology with the feel and tone which is so hard to do. I know its a few years back but a brilliant video. Keep up the great work man. A pedal show Video on using 2 delays like any does would be great.
How did I not know about this vid!! I have stood and played a gig in the exact spot Andy is standing!! The legend himself!! Wish I could have seen this show :/
I've combined these same pedals with my tech 21 Fly Rig RK5 to get as close to Andy's Tone as possible running direct to house. We run a silent stage, but it's pretty close in perspective. I also use his pickup configuration in my 2012 American Strat Deluxe FSR Goldtop. Such a great sound Andy has built. Definitely one of, if not the best in my opinion.
Absolutely fantastic listening to these guys geek out on tone and gear. Makes you think you are sitting in the room with them so genuine is their love of music. Thanks for posting +1 and subbed.
That is insanely great tone. Great job in capturing that sound... wow is all i can say. I also want to ad that i am learning so much from your videos. I hope you have the time to continue the series... it is so beneficial and greatly appreciated.
Andy plays such great guitar. I met him at Music Messe back in 2000, wow so many years ago. We hung out and swaped music ideas etc. Andy can shread but plays real nice tender notes. Daniel has become a real maestro of effects pedals. Great interview.
I love this video. Wonderful job Daniel. Andy is one of my favorite players, everything he plays is so tasteful and beautiful. I meet him briefly at NAMM a couple years ago, and he was super nice.
Love his tone, and seems like a super easy going person, thumbs up for Daniel & the Gig rig once more! Can´t wait for the new pedalboard in-depth video!
Awesome stuff Daniel, Andy is indeed a special guy and incredible talent but it takes a great bloke to get an interview / demo like that to happen! Well done.
Great video! Sincere, cool dudes and some killer tones. Id love to see a vid of Dan and Andy like the ed obrien one..real in depth of the future board/pedals =)
Amazing tone! Somehow I had totally missed checking out Andy despite playing guitar for 35 years until just about the time I got my G2 ;) Coincidence or divine providence? Anyhow, two great talents in Daniel and Andy. (P.S. can't wait to get that G2 software upgrade!)
After watching this for the 100th time....at least ;-).....I must say it - this is some of the most tasteful playing I've ever heard - Andy is amazing. Cheers
I see below that Andy used the Dual Delay setting with 500ms and 375ms, but how do I actually dial that in on the Timeline? Use set the time to 500ms and set the Time2 ratio to 3/4? And what would the tap division be? Quarter note or dotted eighth? I've only had my Timeline a short while, and am especially unfamiliar with the Dual Delay feature, so I appreciate any pointers! (Also surprised to read below that Andy doesn't use reverb!)
What great tones and a really sympathetic interview -nice one. The MESA sounds great. It always irks me when people cite Boogie amps as being for heavy rock nutters, when they're just so versatile and their cleans are so good. I am lucky to have a Mark V and it is just such a musical amp and I'm far from being a shredder! All I need is Andy's chops ;-)
benbutterworth Yeah man. I've got a Recto-verb 25 combo, and yeah - it can get some crazy gain, but the Clean channel is seriously beautiful. It very nearly rivals my '73 Twin Reverb. Mesa makes some seriously versatile amps.
Fully agree! I have Mark V and a Lone Star combo. Playing covers across the musical spectrum ; they cover everything! Seriously versatile, reliable, great sounding amps!
+Archer 250 I understand. It isn't for everyone. As far as it sounding thin, it took me a while to get the right value bleed. I figure whatever works for you is thing you should do.
+Chris Lester I tried it and it was awful. There are different kinds but I tried the standard one thats all over the internet. They should call it a high pass or something because you lose all the low end and warmth.
such hair raising tone from Andy. ungh!!!!!!!!! i mean i always paid attention to his chops...but sense resolution his tone has just crushed me. in a good way.
Great video, Daniel! Andy is one of the nicest guys in the business.
Cheers Tom, you're next ;)
Tom Quayle Probably a lot of people would say the same about you! Amazing player and very down to earth.
7:48 - 7:55 is the perfect tone and melody that introduced me to this incredible Guitar player few years ago.
8:05, Dan: Technicality was put aside and full enjoyment was on. We have so much to learn from both of you! Thank you for what you're doing Dan!
oh man, how amazing is that! Cheers Chuchu ;)
Well said!
Daniel's expression between 8:04 and 9:22- my face for every Andy Timmons tone. Ever. He's my desert island tone guru. Just nothing about it is wrong! So. So. So. Beautiful! His tone is just sublime. Perfection
I love this mans tone! In my opinion it's much more impressive to hear someone create such beautiful music than hearing pointless shredding.
my dream guitar tone. just heavenly. thanks andy!
The more interviews I see with Andy Timmons the more I like the guy. Beautiful player and a thoroughly nice guy.
Andy strikes me as one of the nicest guys you'd ever wanna meet. He's just so humble, and wields quite a hefty talent at the same time.
That She's Leaving Home is so gorgeous. Kills me... Dan's face while he's playing it says it all.
very, very nice!

Thank you so much.
I just became a huge fan of his love the way he plays such a down to earth person with the most incredible talent and sounds beyond breathless hope to see him in concert central florida
That arrangement of She's Leaving Home is very good.
Just amazing Daniel, Andy's tone is from another planet. And the GigRig G2 is impressive, too.
amazing guitar tone! and andy timmons seems like a really nice guy.
He's the best :)
+yumadapaka Andy is a nice guy...I wired a treble bleed cap in the Strat I rewired for him but ended up changing the 220pf cap for a 470pf
A lot of guys like that more extreme bite as they roll the volume back.
John Oliveira i must try that cap value on my treble bleed. what other mods does he have on his strat? and what kind of pickups did he have?
Bridge is Dimarzio Signature AT-1 HB ; neck and mid are Dimarzio Cruisers - not sure which ones - did read somewhere that they were both bridge models ?
Not a strat, Ibanez
I met Andy 20 years or so ago when Thorobred music had a big event in Clearwater, FL. What a nice guy, so glad he has been able to stick around the business for so many years. Great tone master.
He's the best! The gig following this interview was absolutely incredible, i'll never forget it.
The song at 11:20 is called sanctuary it's on the new album!
what a guitarist! I could listen to Andy Timmons forever!
I’ve got a stock Blues Driver, and I have to say it’s easily my favourite drive pedal. I’ve had many but the fact that I can gain it up and still get a crystal clean tone out of it is absolutely astounding, and blows pretty much every other drive I’ve ever played out of the water.
Andy has such great tone!! Dynamic yet pure.
I just saw Andy Timmons play last night in Fremont, CA. What a great show!
So much TONE!!!! Wonderful sound he could coax out of that setup.
Andy's lead tone is the tone that I want!!!
That was great. Fantastic guitar sound and two people that love what they do. No nonsense interview.
Dan's reaction to Andy's talent is adorable!
Andy Timmons pure tone, just discovered your channel Daniel, cant thank you enough for passing on your knowledge.
Great show. Beautiful playing & tones. She's leaving home…gorgeous :)
Great video. Everything Andy plays is beautiful; even that simple chord progression at 7:30 kind of makes you melt.
Andy Timmons is one of the greatest Guitarist in the Planet! 2 awesome Guitarist Andy and Dan👍👍
I could listen to Andy play all day.
This is so cool. Love Andy Timmons! And now I'm a fan of Daniel the GigRig!
Tone that's so pleasing to the ear...love it!!!
Great video! Andy has tone for days, and the skill to go with it. Thanks for sharing!
fenderfan ah, cheers mate. I'm in total awe of Andy's musical expressive style, his tone is just so great. I'm a big fan :)
How did I not know about this vid!! I have stood and played a gig in the exact spot Andy is standing!! The legend himself!! Wish I could have seen this show :/

What a lovely interview. I love it. Thank you.
Thanks Daniel, loverly listening experience of beautiful tone
That is insanely great tone. Great job in capturing that sound... wow is all i can say. I also want to ad that i am learning so much from your videos. I hope you have the time to continue the series... it is so beneficial and greatly appreciated.
Cheers mate, it's such a pleasure to do and I'm so glad you're enjoying them :)
She's Leaving Home is probably my favourite Beatles song, and Andy's ad-hoc version is sublime!! :-)
It was such an experience bring right next to him as he played it. Deeply moving
A lot of wisdom packed in to this little video!!
Andy plays such great guitar. I met him at Music Messe back in 2000, wow so many years ago. We hung out and swaped music ideas etc. Andy can shread but plays real nice tender notes. Daniel has become a real maestro of effects pedals. Great interview.
Amazing both!!!!
Andy is the tone master and Daniel is a genius, the guy you'll want to meet and be friends with! Treasure
Really beautiful playing from 8:00 to 9:35
Jim Crossley "she's leaving home" the Beatles, a beautiful song
I love this video. Wonderful job Daniel. Andy is one of my favorite players, everything he plays is so tasteful and beautiful. I meet him briefly at NAMM a couple years ago, and he was super nice.
Wow...that "Angry Charlie" tone at 10:30 is unbelievable! Great video all around!!
Awesome interview Daniel, and a sweet list of questions that you asked! Thanks :)
Love his tone, and seems like a super easy going person, thumbs up for Daniel & the Gig rig once more! Can´t wait for the new pedalboard in-depth video!
Thanks Federico, yeah, I can't wait to build Andy's new board ;)
Great tones, great playing, Andy Timmons. I bought the JHS @T, and I still can't play like you. :(
Awesome stuff Daniel, Andy is indeed a special guy and incredible talent but it takes a great bloke to get an interview / demo like that to happen! Well done.
ah, cheers mate, but I can't really take any credit. I was simply in the vicinity of genius
Superb Tone and Great Player...
Two of the nicest pure talents in the business. Great video! 👍
ah, cheers Rob ;)
11:20 That TONE is tasteeeeeee...
Great video! Sincere, cool dudes and some killer tones. Id love to see a vid of Dan and Andy like the ed obrien one..real in depth of the future board/pedals =)
Daniel I am impressed. Great product I wish my board was half that nice!
Ah, cheers Doug. G2 software upgrade on the way next week. Cheers mate
After watching this for the 100th time....at least ;-).....I must say it - this is some of the most tasteful playing I've ever heard - Andy is amazing.
Cheers
I wish to know what are the settings of the Angry Charlie.. That tone is just incredible.. All Andy sounds are just incredible!
Way to go man! Killer video. Love what you did with the new board too
I see below that Andy used the Dual Delay setting with 500ms and 375ms, but how do I actually dial that in on the Timeline? Use set the time to 500ms and set the Time2 ratio to 3/4? And what would the tap division be? Quarter note or dotted eighth? I've only had my Timeline a short while, and am especially unfamiliar with the Dual Delay feature, so I appreciate any pointers! (Also surprised to read below that Andy doesn't use reverb!)
Agree with Tom Quayle. Andy judged me in a contest I won ages ago, and has always been super nice. Great video!
Andy is such an elegant player!
All I need is Andy's chops ;-)
benbutterworth Love my Mark V as well man. Phenomenal amp!
benbutterworth Yeah man. I've got a Recto-verb 25 combo, and yeah - it can get some crazy gain, but the Clean channel is seriously beautiful. It very nearly rivals my '73 Twin Reverb.
Mesa makes some seriously versatile amps.
Mark Lugg ain't that the truth!!
Fully agree! I have Mark V and a Lone Star combo. Playing covers across the musical spectrum ; they cover everything! Seriously versatile, reliable, great sounding amps!
Man, what amazing tone!! Very nice video, thanks for share it!
brilliant video. nice to see people really caring about guitar tone at this level.
He's a great player playing a great amp - the Lone Star amp!
Oh my God, DAT TONE.
Amazing guitar player,
Great job Daniel. Andy has a beautiful set up :)
True king of tone, just perfect!
Tempted to change my strat pickups to the dimarzio cruiser. Great sound.
Sold on the angry Charlie ! Already have a lone star and I really dig Andys playing!
killer licks man, I think every time I see/hear Andy play I get at least 3 licks I want to try
Shes leaving home... fantastic tone
What great sounds he has....
jfrockon and playing
So many players miss out on the treble bleed mod. I have it on my guitars and it is fantastic. Not sure why more players don't do it.
+Chris Lester Personally, I hate it. It doesn't get rid of the dirt well enough for me, and it sounds rather thin.
+Archer 250 I understand. It isn't for everyone. As far as it sounding thin, it took me a while to get the right value bleed. I figure whatever works for you is thing you should do.
Chris Lester Yeah. I tried a few different cap and r values, but I still had some problems with the gain reduction.
To each his own, though.
+Chris Lester I tried it and it was awful. There are different kinds but I tried the standard one thats all over the internet. They should call it a high pass or something because you lose all the low end and warmth.
I get what you're saying. It definitely isn't for everyone.
Cool, Humble Andy
Dan, did i see a little eye watering? It had the same effect on my front row at a clinic. Just beautiful!
07:47 BD-2 sounds great
Great video and awesome guitar tones! Cheers! :-)
Just bought a Keeley modded Blues Driver off the back of this video. Fantastic tone :)
Awesome video... Technicological = technology + logical, LoL love it !
awesome!! great job, sick tone!
Insane..!! Amazing tone
COM'ON! That's awesome!
wow... what a nice bloke!
reminds me of Rick Wakeman on Guitar! :D
Great comparison on all fronts.
Anyone know what song he's playing at the 11:20 mark? I really want to check that song out!!
Andy Timmons is a Bill Evans fan. He just went up in my estimation multiple orders of magnitude.
His clean tone is like running a wet finger round the rim of a wineglass full of teardrops.
such hair raising tone from Andy. ungh!!!!!!!!! i mean i always paid attention to his chops...but sense resolution his tone has just crushed me. in a good way.
Mark Shields yeah, I'm now a super fan :)
and also....i have a riot and love it......but the charlie...well. looks like im going to have to drop 200 bucks on another dirty box.
I love it. Great tones.
Andy seems to be such a nice guy!
he's the best!
Andy you rock brother never stop we need great rock to counter all the shit out there..........
Really enjoyed that many thanks
wow!! Nice interview!
the name of the song at 11:20? please!
