i was in Kandahar Afghanistan during these Olympic Games and didnt get to see any of it due to my MOS (job) in the US Army...i was a Military Police Air Assault K-9 handler, so I was out patrolling the roads and providing security to our troops and our allies who were still being deployed into the area. the only thing i got to watch, because it was my "down time" or "time off" was the parade of nations for about an hour or so...just enough to see Canada to the USA enter the stadium then we got called up for a mission. however, i was in a building with our British and Aussie Allies sharing our map overlays with them during this time, and out of all the Olympic games i got to watch from the 70s to present, that time in 2002 in Kandahar with the Brits and Aussies watching together as allies as our nation's best came to compete in peace and friendship was the BEST Olympics by far for me. i dont think there was a dry eye in that room when we saw the American bombed flag, the Canadian, Aussie, Kiwi, Great Britain, or French flags being walked into the Olympic Stadium in Salt Lake. We all were hugging each other, and none of us had to say a word. you all were in the Stadium as one, and we Americans were with our closest Allies in the world cheering ALL ATHLETES on as one in Afghanistan. that kind of unity and peace is what we were fighting for for ALL the world. thank you for uploading this. i never got to see it then, but am so proud of ALL the ATHLETES who can call themselves "Olympians" win or lose, you represented your nations proudly, with honor, courage, and with respect. Thank you for coming to America to compete, as all of you are what makes America great. We aren't just "one nation" of people, but one people made up of MANY nations...some of you are even family to us Americans, especially from the UK, Germany, Italy, Greece, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, the Pacific Islanders, Israel, Russia, China, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Monaco, and many more. your DNA runs through our American veins, and without you America wouldn't be who we are today. thank you....i hope to see your athletes compete again soon in the 2016 games in Rio de Genaro Summer Games! stay safe out there!
I was there. 6th grade. The Salt Lake games were so full of joy and warmth. Also some great skiing! 🇸🇪 Edit: Whoops, I meant 🇺🇲. But Sweden is dope too!
And to think I've lived in this city for most of my life, and after seeing some snippets, and hearing a lot about it, I finally watch the opening ceremony...
Next the Flag from the Trade Towers my favorite part was When they incorporated the Native American Tribes into the opening as well as when the Leaders gave Members of countries a blessing.
A historic Olympics for Australia. Never won gold before and yet we prevailed. Steven Bradbry and Alisa Camplin's performances will never be forgotten! And plus I know you wont read this but you guys should consider making Olympic films for the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics
Very moving. I went to a few of the sports and remember them well. The back ground on the athletes journey make this a very good film. Not just statistics. Very well done and worth the watch.
People forget Australians can go to new zealand 🇳🇿 for skiing or snowboarding they have some of the best ski resorts in the world shaun white trains there alot it has amazing ski trails ive only been skiing there 1 time when I was in Auckland for a poker tournament but its really beautiful
Very weak official film if you ask me · Nothing about Simon Amman's huge upset wins at ski jumping · Nothing about the tighest ski jumping team event in history · Nothing about snowboarding halfpipe, the start of an era · Nothing about Sarah Hughes and Irina Slutskaya TYING for gold in figure skating (Hughes won because she won the freeskating part) · Nothing about the hugely controversial pairs competition in figure skating
Men's Gold Medalists Name is Home Track. Then 2006 Olympics Can Duff Gibson expection. 2002(USA) Jimmy Shea(USA) 2006(ITA) Duff Gibson(CAN) 2010(CAN) Jon Montgomery (CAN) 2014(RUS) Aleksandr Tretyakov(RUS) 2018(KOR) Yun Sung Bin(KOR)
Tracey Tillman yes that’s amazing because the pairs I remember was a big talking point at Salt Lake 2002 even in my country Australia they were talking about it
Tracey Tillman i know right my mom loves ice skating i remember Sarah Hughes comeback a flawless performance and Michelle Kwan and the girl from Russia battling for silver or the couples skating was good also I was 13 at the time and had ZERO interest in figure skating but I remember that im shocked they didn't include it
Been checking out a few of these Olympic films . The American guy voicing these films must have some sort of deal with the IOC and it looks like he makes makes these films solely for a US TV audience and no one else ie very dumbed down and cringe worthy . I guess he must now be retired or hopefully dead . He isn't missed by many of the audience here
"hopefully dead"-that's a bit harsh, don't you think? I would add that the voice-over person is extremely unlikely to be the one writing the content. Also, don't assume the US has a corner on the stupidity market. Just take a look around you at the rest of the world and you will realize that.
Of all Olympic official films, this is one of the finest. It’s up there with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic film and Los Angeles, 1984.

You know, I just realized now how soon after 9/11 this was. Only a few months.

@Claxington tf?
@Claxington They still exist!! They get huge sums of cash from the Federal government. They possess huge lands. I won't call them losers.
I was so proud of our state , and how we pulled off these games. I can't wait to host the again. Let's go 2034.
Would be awesome to have one about Vancouver 2010

They posted Rio with 4 year delay :)

So glad we get to experience this in 10 years
This brought many memories back to me
All those out fits are crazy
love Olympic Games sports and history
thank you
That was awesome 4 them to have the Flag Flew on the Twin Towers during 9/11🇺🇸
What is the music played during the parade of nations I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Poor Jacqui Cooper, made a comeback for the next Olympics in Turin and crashed there as well, having entered the final as the favourite.
Awee italy bless u get well stay inspired 2020
Bud Greenspan does the best job of anybody ever chronicling the Olympics and his brother . David Perry who
narrates, has an incredible voice
I agree Bud Greenspan's films captured the spirit of the Games
Idgaf about the Olympic but this was a nice video
Very weak official film if you ask me

The 1996 was disappointing too. I watched that one at all expecting to hear about the Magnificent Seven -- and they weren't even given a mention. :o\
absolutely the worst official olympic video of any I've seen nothing any apolo anton ohno either
Yeah
I'm glad I read this before wasting my time watching it ha.
I've noticed these documentaries tend to cover lesser known stories. An odd choice, but it explains why the events you mentioned weren't included.

@ 1:17:52 no wonder why BK is focused with 1 aim seeing an aussie on the top step of the podium
Congrats to Utah the future home of the 2034 winter games. I witnessed a heal nation in Salt Lake City in 2002

The drama there was!!!
The Bradbury win was a fluke thing honestly
beautifull
THAT'S UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE DECADE!

Seriously....too little sports, way too much background crap.
You should be watching the actual games footage than, not a documentary.
It's Larisa LazUtina, not LazutA....
Czech Republic!
Where is ski jumping?
@ 1:19:28 OH GREAT! OUR MAIN HOPE IS OUT!
It's a joke? Where is biathlon and Ole Einar Bjoerndalen's four wins???
1989Ferrarist they can't show everything. It'd be 12+ hours long. No one wants that.
1989Ferrarist USA - host nation. That's all that's relevant.
I think they wanted to focus on lesser known stories, instead of retelling popular stories.

I loved the narrator, great job, probably the best part of this documentary and I'm sure didn't create this film.
