@@hissingoose neither will the Kia. I own a 21 Sorento SX AWD 2.5 Turbo and no issues whatsoever. If you don't like kia vehicles why are you here watching a video on one?
@@tmr8193 Meh. I like some of the Kia exteriors and the CX-9 is getting a little dated. But....when you're in the Mazda. The interior quality is top-notch.
The auto blindspot camera pop up in the cluster when you flick on the turn signals is the best safety idea in the game right now and should honestly be an industry safety standard
It's also in my '17 Civic, but the newer generation of Civic lost it. I set mine to turn on manually using the button on the end of the stalk (if it turns on with the turn signal, it'll take over the infotainment screen, which is a PITA if I'm also using navigation) and I know I'll miss it if I get a car without it.
Or drive properly and shoulder check. Safety features that make bad drivers worse should not be industry standard. Honda had this on their cars and decided not to continue with the feature.
@@marclangman4836 The camera does what a shoulder check can’t do - monitor the lane from a viewpoint at the very edge of my car, giving me a better view for as long as I keep it on without requiring me to twist my head back. For example, if my lane is stopped, I can keep my eye on the right hand lane and check for a big enough gap more easily; or check for traffic during a freeway interchange where I need to merge right; etc. I’ve been driving a long time - I set my side mirrors as side mirrors, not duplicate rear mirrors, and do my shoulder checks - and the mirror-mounted camera has no downsides I can think of.
I don't really understand car reviewers complaining a sorento is not fun to drive. Was it ever supposed to be? I don't think the lack of fun will detract a single sale from someone who's looking for a sorento in the first place. (this is the internet, I'll make clear I'm not bashing him)
I have every generation of Sorento's at home! They're great vehicles, quite reliable and offers a lot for the price. I put them all to the test, doing high speed gravel road sessions, and snow roads in winter. They never let me down, always starting at -40 Celsius without an engine block heater. Yes, they might break more overtime (after 5+ years) than your typical Rav-4 or CR-V, but they have strong qualities like very good road manners, comfort, style and space. My favorite one is my first gen 2004 sorento with the manual transmission, V6 and body on frame, it just feels like a truck.
Man, with that saddle colored interior I bet you feel like you are riding a wild stallion all day. The excitement. In all honesty, it seems quite nice.
Me and my partner liked this when it came out and at the time we were looking to get into an SUV since we have kids and needed more space and have always had a sedan and she’s not into cars really or care much for them so when she actually wanted this we went to take a look at it and bought one. We got this spec the SX PRESTIGE XLINE because we planed on traveling a bit with it and it also has everything and price was in our range and we love it. It fits our family and can put some seats down when in need of more space. I also like that it looks really nice and sporty in my opinion for what it is and I like the way it drives for the most part. Also love the big pano roof and I’m not that tall but the 3rd row can actually fit someone about 5’9 for a short drive and they would be ok. I would really recommend this for a family of 4-5. Y’all would fit great and if you need more space you can put a seat down and fit everything you need. Y people and you might want to go bigger since you would not have much trunk space. That’s really the only thing I hate that trunk space is small but then telluride would be better and the good thing price wise it’s not much more. Also tech is pretty good you got great cameras and digital gauge cluster which is nice. We really love our Sorento.
Not for me, but I can appreciate Kia's efforts. Would definitely consider it for my mom. Still amazed how even your "quick" reviews are so informative. Love u you guys romantically.
I've noticed that the Piano Black trim in our 2022 Kia Telluride seems to be holding up decently. I won't say it'll be devoid of scratches for life, but it seems pretty resilient thus far. I don't know if they've treated it or coated it or what, but it's been durable thus far. I'm not even noticing swirl marks yet.
Wow that’s amazing, The piano Black in my 2022 BMW doesn’t look awful, it can easily be polish out, I recommend putting some 3M PPF film over it very easy to applyl
It’s a 2022 MY vehicle. Everything in your car should be “holding up decently”. Not remarkable. But hopefully it stays that way for years to come. Enjoy your new car and hope it serves you and your family reliably
I ordered one back on March and it didn't arrive till now. We don't have the turbo engine here in UAE. Instead, the full option one comes with V6 engine with same horse power but slightly less torque. Also, it comes with the same rims as the hybrid one. Can't wait to drive it.
I wish ours came with the 6 cyl. I bought the top trim one for my wife and I feel like the 4cyl is working so hard to move the heavy SUV. It’s pretty quick for what it is too. So I feel like the 4cyl is straining and therefore won’t be as reliable long term.
We have a 22 Xline SX Prestige AWD in the Aruba Green. We traded in our 19 Sorento SX lease, and its a HUGE upgrade. Its way more fun than the old one. We are very happy with our upgrade to this new version and find it llooks 10x better, its way faster/better shifting, more comfy, more sporty, better materials just better layout overall with great tech for the $. Great Video!
KIA isn’t putting the best tires to manage the power of their vehicles. I learned this since my first Optima Hybrid in 2012, once I changed the tires to something with better grip, that issue with the TCS system, went away. They need to tune the engines to do better, economy wise without needing less grippy tires.
We’ve had this car for almost a year. And it’s averaged less than 17mpg. To be fair we live in Maui so there aren’t freeways or interstates. So it’s all “city” miles. It’s very comfortable and the safety features are awesome. The stereo and tech are very impressive for the price point. It’s also very peppy for a 4cyl but I feel like the 4 cyl is working really hard to push a heavy suv around with that much pep so I’m worried about long term reliability. And like any DIT motor, I’m worried about carbon buildup. Also, the black trim around the windows has faded in less than a year.
Control the oil. Do more frequent oil changes than whatever KIA says. Even if it's not black, it may contain metal particles from friction as a new engine does when it needs to settle its pistons.
Thanks for mentioning the lack of interior storage, it was abysmal compared to the Santa Fe, still waiting for someone else to make a small form factor 3 row with hybridization
It's the same platform, only difference is you can't get a third row in the Santa fe. Not sure why you are comparing the space behind third row in Sorento to space behind second row in Santa fe.
This isn't that much smaller than the Highlander (a bit narrower, maybe). It's third row is also no place for adults, or even bigger kids. I had to ride back there on a Lyft trip home from the airport recently. After 20 minutes my knees were stuck to my chin (I'm six feet tall).
My wife and I have owned two Sorentos over the last decade--a 2012 version and currently a 2018 model. It's my wife's daily driver and the long distance road tripper for our family (2 adults, a teenage daughter, and a big dog.) Each of the Sorentos we've owned has been a fully loaded top trim model. Each has given us excellent service and my wife loves our current 2018 model. Unfortunately, I have to say I wouldn't purchase a 2022 Sorento. The problem is that the only option for a mid or upper trim 2022 model Sorento is to opt for captain chairs in the second row. The only way to get a bench seat in the second row is to get the lowest trim model equipped with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine. Although we're a small family, the second row bench is essential for us. Our dog won't fit in a captain chair so even with three humans and "Rover" we'd have to deploy the third row or take up at least half of the cargo space behind the second row for the dog. In short, the Sorento with second row captain chairs is a four passenger vehicle. And there are better choices including its cousin the Hyundai Santa Fe.
My wife and I have '19 and '20 Sorento V6s, and the loss of the 3.3L V6 killed this car for us. The V6 is a great, flexible engine with downsides and the turbo 4-popper is no replacement.
Same, I own a 2020 Sorento S V6. We really liked the newly redesigned Sorento and was going to trade up, but we didn't like the power train so we're sticking with our 2020 V6 Sorento
I drove a twin-turbo V6 Sorento last year, I'm pretty sure....did they get rid of it? Edit: Nvm it was a twin-turbo four cylinder. That thing HAULED. Felt way quicker than a V6. Reliability remains to be seen...
The new engine in the Sorrento is a fantastic engine and is leaps and bounds better than the 6 it is replacing. People get hung up on the size instead of what you actually get.
@@moloono1 But so do torque curves... The 2.5T makes 311lb-ft @1700rpm, the 3.3L V6 made 252lb-ft @ 5200rpm. That's a huge difference and will make the 2.5T feel way stronger.
If this will hold my goalie bag with the third row down, it will be a strong consideration along with the 2023 Palisade. I'm definitely thinking of the PHEV version, I do really prefer the dial shifter.
Still blows my mind at this people will still take a slightly negative stab at the parts quality of a modern Korean car but when someone else like Toyota puts a real shit box of an interior into their cars, and they definitely do, everyone turns a blind eye. Would gladly take this over a RAV4 or even the Highlander, the latter which competes more with the superior Telluride.
Its nice suv but reliability is not up there yet. 2016 sorento sx-l trim here. Dashboard cracked, oil leak from head and oil pan, sunroof wont open, chipping napa leather, battery went out twice, etc. Love the design and comfort options but damn...
2016 ex. Valve cover gasket leak at 50k miles. In two weeks lost so much oil that the dipstick was dry. If I didn’t notice the oil stain on the garage floor would have seized the engine or had a fire.
I got myself a 2021 sx prestige xline so appreciate y’all writing about your cars. If I still have in a couple years I will make sure to keep an eye out for all these things. ✌️
I bought the 2021 Sorento EX AWD last year and I still love it! I mostly agree with this review but I enjoy driving it. It's a good automobile. Just hoping the quality holds up. I don't drive it crazily and I keep up with the maintenance schedule.
7:07 There are Hybrid and Plug-In hybrid versions of this car available for sale right now for anyone who mightve liked to hear that after this sentence.
I can confirm if you get the 2.5t trim, you need AWD. I traded my FWD Sante Fe (same chassis and engine) for a the Calligraphy AWD version after just 3 months.
I have one of these. SX Prestige but 2wd. We originally wanted a Carnival and had one on order but things were just taking forever. Ended up looking at this and the Telluride. Both great cars but because of budget, went with the Sorento. Its mainly the wifes car but since gas has been getting expensive, ive actually been driving it to work (travel for work) while the wife drives the Jeep keeping the miles low while we wait on the replacement civic. If you hammer the gas, this thing can suck the gas but ive been driving it with a feather foot and my most recent 250mi trip (mostly highway) clocked in at 34 mpg!! I found the sweet spot for these is around 65mph as going up from there seems to really cut into fuel mileage.
My Wife is looking for a car after she finishes her masters and this is one of my top options for her. One thing worth noting is Kia/Hyundai's warranty. For the price point, the features like you said are worth it. And having 3 big dogs it makes sense for her to get an SUV while I get to keep my car.
My wife has this exact spec. Solid car, definitely have to wait for that turbo to kick in, but when it does it scoots faster than anything in the same price point.
I’ve seen a couple of these on the road, they look awesome, I tried to order a 2022 Kia K5 GT, they said I could place an order and it might take six months, but there is no guarantee. Then a week later they called me and they said that they were prioritizing the 2.5 turbo engines for the SUVs so there was no way I could get one. Ended up getting a 2022 228I Gran coupe Xdrive and I love it, I’m returning mid 20s so that’s not terrible for a large SUV like that. People love to hate on the two series gran coupe but it is a fantastic car, sure I could’ve gotten a three series which I was actually coming from a G20, but my car is much more comfortable, comes with a panoramic roof, quieter, better ride, just as quick as a 330 I👌💯

Motortrend tested the 2022 genesis g70(not sure why ya didn't use this one), and it did a 6.2s 0-60, their 228i xdrive did 6.0 second 0-60, same magazine, much more accurate. The 15 speaker Lexicon absolutely shits on that harmon kardon sound system(BMW is not known for great sound systems, the brands that are are Mercedes, genesis acura(their optional els systems), and Lexus. But the audioreviewer ranks lexicon way above basic harmon kardon. And the overall featureset and especially interior to the g70 prestige is easily above the 228i premium 2. stop and go/adaptive cruise control is basic and offered in g70 as well. It does not have the brand recognition as of yet, even though they are working towards it. I wonder why Hyundai/Kia won't integrate some type of VVT. My wife's 2021 Tucson gets significantly less gas mileage than my 2020 gas only RAV4 despite the Tucson being smaller and lighter and the RAV4's engine is slightly larger with more HP. 2.5L versus the Tucson's 2.4L, both naturally aspirated. The only difference I can think of is the RAV4 has VVT-i and the Tucson has no type of variable valve timing at all. Is the transmission any good compared to a conventional auto? I heard the DCTs in Kia and Hyundais (other than the N cars) are pretty jerky and slow to shift
I find you cant really just let it coast at idle. I mean you can but thats where i feel the difference in the transmission. Almost like the transmission is not fully engaged so you get that jerky kinda of feeling. Its not bad its just the way dcts work as its initially engaging. Once you start to give it any type of throttle, that feeling goes away.
Pretty much all the Hyundai/Kia's look good, that seems to be their selling point. Still waiting for the reliability to be on par with Toyota and Honda.
For the ICE, maybe not so much with Toyota and Honda (Maybeee par with or bit better than Nissan), EVs are pretty descent though but then not everyone could afford quick charging stations in near area or at their homes. V2L is pretty dope and soon rolling out their own first Halo vehicle with E-GMP in 2023.
@@interpol007 My friend had a 2019 Sonata Hybrid and that thing was in the shop more than he had it. The final straw for him was that he replaced the alternator 6 times within a year. He ditched it after the 6th time and got a 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid.
It’s worth mentioning that if you like the power of the Turbo engine or the efficiency of the hybrid engine, you can only get the 6 seat configuration. Correct me if I’m wrong. On top of everything the Serento is over priced in my opinion but, so is the rest Serento competition 😖.
I'm guessing you find everything overpriced. Cars have followed inflation fairly accurately over the decades, when accounting for increased features. This thoroughly middle class vehicle is more luxurious and has far more features than any luxury car of thirty or forty years ago.
We looked at this and the Hyundai version in PHEV, ended up ordering a Highlander Hybrid instead. The hybrid system & AWD was kinda wonky in the Kia/Hyundais, Kia dealer was charging markup, only Hyundai dealer that wasn't charging markup wouldn't take an order/guarantee a car, so we wound up ordering the Toyota; strange world we live in right now...
I think the Sorento is the exception but not the rule. This is definitely the lightweight in my opinion, of all of the brand new remodeled Kia cars. They just didn't go balls to the wall with this model and it shows.
That one will probably catch fire 🔥 too. Literally. Done with KIA. Nothing but praise for a lot of their design and materials offered. But their drivetrains continue to be abysmal. Oil burning, fuel leaks, electrical fires..serious issues. Keep it.

"quick review" is 9:34, love it seems like a lovely car that will be perfect for most consumers in the market, I'd still be worried about the koreans' history of engine fire recalls
I patiently wait for savagegeese to complete testing the entire lineup of Kia/Hyundai cars. If the dealer experience is not enough to ignore these brands, then the reliability doubts caused by the engine recalls and vehicle fires over the years completely destroy my interest in the brands.
Consumer Repoets does not consider the brands unusually unreliable, aside from a few specific models (the Seltos, for some reason). They aren't up with Mazda or Toyota, but they're competitive with most other brands.
It only makes sense in mild climates. In the Bay Area we rarely need heat, and the PHEV would save some money. It may not have much oomph in EV mode, but for cruising (or stop-and-go) on the freeway it should be fine.
Fuel in Europe is so expensive (7$ a gallon where I am) KIA doesn't offer the 2.5 with or without a turbo. But a HEV will do around 35 to 40 MPG. For most I think it's a 5seat SUV with 2 emergency seats if needed. Seriously how often to you se more than 2 people in a car these days.
A lot of negative comments on the Kia/Hyundai brand here considering even ANOTHER serious recall. I really hope they hear all of this, and prove us all wrong with reliable cars/suvs going forward. They do have some great style and price, they could be up there with Toyota and Honda. For reference I had a 2000 Hyundai that lasted 12 years with zero issues, until it was totaled by a red light runner. So I'm rooting for them.
To be fair, the engine fire issue is beyond Kia. Toyota for instance has a long history of engine fires and even Federal investigations. It's just that it is not blown up like that of the Korean cars.
Really cool. I like how Kia/Hyundai give you the "engine fire" option for free. That, combined with the "dispose of before 100k miles" option are very attractive.

You can't take these Hyundai/Kias with the dsg off road. They overheat super fast. Thats also hoping the bottom end of the motor doesn't explode or the braking system doesn't catch fire...I kid....kinda...
Why do they always cry about the TC, the people who are buying this aren’t good at driving and putting them in a car with a less intrusive TC is a bad idea. Seen it too many times. Kia knows this and it’s why they do it.
A Subaru Outback has 75.7 cu ft cargo capacity with second row folded. The CR-V has 75.8. The Sorento ‘s 75.5 does NOT best the competition as far as cargo room.
I might be in the minority on this but I am really starting to dislike all of these SUV's. It's like everyone has one. So gas right now here in North Dallas is $4.19 and the new Kia takes 24mpg hwy ...to fill this up it's about $100 for a full tank. That's a lot of money for a full tank of gas. Yeah if you don't wait until it gets on empty to fill up it won't be too bad...but still
What design is that? Last I checked they all had very similar hinges. One advantage of many Hyundais and Kias is that the doors open wider (nearly 90°) than most other cars.

The auto blindspot camera pop up in the cluster when you flick on the turn signals is the best safety idea in the game right now and should honestly be an industry safety standard
Yep, I have it on my Tucson and it is by far the best feature. It will be a standard feature across all brands in probably 10 years
It's also in my '17 Civic, but the newer generation of Civic lost it. I set mine to turn on manually using the button on the end of the stalk (if it turns on with the turn signal, it'll take over the infotainment screen, which is a PITA if I'm also using navigation) and I know I'll miss it if I get a car without it.
The type of person who really needs that feature the most doesn't bother using the signals anyway, they just swerve wherever they want to go.
I rear-ended one of these with my father's Skoda Fabia about 2 decades ago. Good memories!

@David Jung cap
You can use some professional tire dressing to darken the trim up. It will surprise you
Metal, properly made trim doesn’t fade after only a year. Tire dressing can also attract dust.

Edit: Nvm it was a twin-turbo four cylinder. That thing HAULED. Felt way quicker than a V6. Reliability remains to be seen...

we have the pearl white version. we love it. we get 30mpg at 70 mph. the DCT is great. heated and vented seats are the best ive had.

I disagree and I preferred them to a bench. Most people like myself buying this probably don't need the 3rd row. I use this as a large 4 seater with a large cargo area with the third row folded down 90% of the time. That said I think it should be an option on all trims to get the bench
@@Mikel-et3ho but what if you need 5 people and their cargo? Its going to be extremely difficult fit
@@Hallowsaw I'm not trying to volunteer my vehicle to pack full and be a people hauler. I don't like people that much and I'm not having any more kids. I don't want to be able to fit that many people and cargo because that sounds miserable lol
@@Mikel-et3ho so it is pointless. Might as well have a tucson or the new sportage
@@Hallowsaw not really at least for me. If it doesn't make sense for you then don't buy it. more optional seats than the Tuscon when I do want them for my kids, but still most adults won't want to sit back there which deters people from asking to ride with me. My German Shepherd also likes the third row in a sling as opposed to being in a cargo section where he'll stand up and lose his footing and constantly reposition himself. Way more cargo than a sportage.
What is pointless though for sure is to argue about it more as everything is subjective here and I like it and you don't. That's why there are other choices so go buy one of those
It feels weird knowing that Jerry Seinfeld is probably watching this in his pyjamas in bed like me.
5:28 no one `need` awd with a relative powerful engine ..unless you want floor the thing from zero or low speed

Ha! I was wondering what car they were reminding me of.

seems like a lovely car that will be perfect for most consumers in the market, I'd still be worried about the koreans' history of engine fire recalls
I patiently wait for savagegeese to complete testing the entire lineup of Kia/Hyundai cars. If the dealer experience is not enough to ignore these brands, then the reliability doubts caused by the engine recalls and vehicle fires over the years completely destroy my interest in the brands.
there's no fire recalls. You sheeps love to listen to fake news media.
So did you lose interest in Toyota as well?
Consumer Repoets does not consider the brands unusually unreliable, aside from a few specific models (the Seltos, for some reason). They aren't up with Mazda or Toyota, but they're competitive with most other brands.
The Hybrid or Hy-Bird is the one to get. PHEV is slow in EV mode & the heater will cause the engine to come on anyways.
Everytime my family of 6 goes anywhere together. I have one of these Sorentos, PHEV though. Works great for my family.

And two free extinguishers
I ordered a Hybrid a month a go! Should arrive in July! I’ll be trading in my 2018 RAV4!
How true is it that Kia engines burn oil ?
Most car engines burn some oil between oil changes. Some more than others depending on extraneous factors, but most do it
Is a frog’s ass watertight?
Maybe a quart every 5000 miles, not every 1000 miles, which is being reported. There is huge lawsuit against Kia, supposedly.

Dude it’s May and all the trees are dead there. The trees don’t like the sun and warmer weather up north?
i cross shopped this closely with the ford explorer awd with towing package.. for the price the kia has more features. drives better. nicer interior. the only thing the explorer had better was the towing capabilities. which i decided i dont really need. ill borrow my in laws truck if needed.
You can't take these Hyundai/Kias with the dsg off road. They overheat super fast. Thats also hoping the bottom end of the motor doesn't explode or the braking system doesn't catch fire...I kid....kinda...
1.6 turbo hybrid seems like the most sensible choice
Why do they always cry about the TC, the people who are buying this aren’t good at driving and putting them in a car with a less intrusive TC is a bad idea. Seen it too many times. Kia knows this and it’s why they do it.
A Subaru Outback has 75.7 cu ft cargo capacity with second row folded. The CR-V has 75.8. The Sorento ‘s 75.5 does NOT best the competition as far as cargo room.
santa fe
I might be in the minority on this but I am really starting to dislike all of these SUV's. It's like everyone has one.
So gas right now here in North Dallas is $4.19 and the new Kia takes 24mpg hwy ...to fill this up it's about $100 for a full tank. That's a lot of money for a full tank of gas. Yeah if you don't wait until it gets on empty to fill up it won't be too bad...but still
So buy a Prius
Don't worry, the gubmint will force us all into EVs soon enough
1:37 I don't get why car companies don't just copy the Germans door design. It is so much better.
hyundai santa fe is better, and that's almost same car.
What design is that? Last I checked they all had very similar hinges. One advantage of many Hyundais and Kias is that the doors open wider (nearly 90°) than most other cars.
@@markmiller3279 i was speaking about the door bins. The Germans have the armrest and pull handle in such a way that there's room for a 1.5l bottle and more shiieettt.
Most asian cars just have a small slit opening.

I want a sorento with the 365 awd stinger drivetrain.
Serious question, why this over Telluride. Beyond availability
the availability of HEV/PHEV.
Better Handling & acceleration and easier to park/ maneuver. Xline gives better ground clearance and center locking differential. Digital cockpit gauge cluster.
Most of which is becoming available on the 2023 Telluride, minus the turbocharged powertrain that gives you the better driving dynamics. I mainly purchased this because I'm coming from a sports car and didn't want to drive any more of a sluggish/ larger vehicle than I had to for my family car
Was hoping for a Turbo S video
The based 2.5L
The red-pilled DCT
