My grand niece missed her grandmother's funeral because of this strike, and had to wait in the airport in order to get a refund. Heartbroken young lady spent 5 hours in Calgary,
Unable to get to Nanaimo. I don't think I will fly West Jet anymore.

I don't understand why, being a problem between the company and its employees, users have to pay the consequences. I had a hotel reserved to arrive with my family for vacations, and it cost me a lot to cancel and make new reservations, and who is responsible for that? WestJet should be ashamed of them for putting their clients in a disadvantageous situation, and as if nothing happened, they don't care at all. Shame, Shame.

I can surely see that part. In this case, the Union representing most West Jet employees goes against West Jet, not each individual employee who does. If that union decided to strike they go anytime and Westjet need to do everything to stop it but if it involves broke the company operation to do so then the strike would gain nothing in return and the union knows that too so they will play this balance thing to strike a bit to push westjet out but stop soon enough to not cause too much damage.
also, I am surprised this union is not based in Canada; it is in Colorado.
So, what would be a good solution? Don't hire any unionized workers, and that will solve problems for us as customers.
