  • The International Six Days Trials, often hailed as the 'Olympic Games' of motorcycling, were a series of annual events in which countries pitted their best riders against each other in a grueling six-day enduro-style race against the clock.
Riders were responsible for maintaining their machines throughout the six days, highlighting the necessity for mechanical nouse, as well as reliability from motorcycle manufacturers.
In this special feature, you will hear from motorcycle historian, Alan Cathcart, as well as former ISDT riders for Great Britain; Ron Langston, Gordon Blakeway and of course, Sammy Miller.
The aim for this episode is to give a brief insight into this unique and historic event, as well as the opportunity for some of its participants to recount a few stories, which we think you'll find of interest!
Thank you to all the original sources that helped to inform this video, especially speedtracktales.com/.
We hope you enjoy this video and that it may become a useful historic reference for people seeking to learn more about the ISDT.

Sammy Miller’s channel deserves to hit millions of subscribers. The day I visited his Museum my life was forever marked by such inspiring spirit. How not to be grateful for all his work which has become an extraordinary legacy for generations to come.
I can’t recommend enough to anyone interested in motor sport to pay a visit to this beautiful spot in Southern England. ✨💫🏍️🙏

In 1974 I bought a Bultaco Matador ISDT bike from Andy Lee (in Cambridge) for £400. What a bike, what a noise, what fun!! These videos are pure gold dust.

Can't help but reflect these ISDT stories with those of the Berkshire International Trials that were the U.S. counterpart, primarily in the '70s. Fella by the name of Al Eames laid out the courses for the two day events on a Triumph 500 twin, much like the one in the video here. I was strictly a week-end competitor and two days at about 180 miles a day was quite an experience. There were many international riders, Lars Larson was a most notable one. His time in the speed tests did much to slim down the gold medal field. I managed a silver in '71.

Great comment on how to ride the ISDT. "Don't crash." It's my favourite motto. You'll also get hurt.

I love it that mcqueen brought his rickman from where your first museum once Stood. I liked the old place, it had character. But not as nice as the current place of dreams. The day ago rode his MV around the yard was brilliant.

BSA's Jeff Smith convinced me the unit single was a great bike to fix and ride for 36 years as a daily rider. 200k plus miles, 3 barrels etc. The lugs on rear cradle break eventually even a VGP I knew had frame issues under mx loads. Bud Eakins dumped the BSA A65 in Bullit.

Sincerely thanks Mr. Miller and Mr. Cathcart, for one more, really enjoyable, video. By the way, "locals" always have some extra benefits...., on any sport, discipline, or time. On the other hand, when I see Mr. Miller rising the leg to jump on any bike rump, a chill runs through my body, I hope I get to do the same, thank's Master!!!

Great video Miller. Thankyou for shareing your experiences. I never made it to the European events but used to scan the papers at the news agents for the results.

Gordon Jackson told me he'd been on a ISDT test for AJS and he had to change a tyre. Somehow he lost all the nuts and couldn't put the wheel back. I'm not sure if he was selected for the AJS team that year. At one time the Sidcup MCC had a photograph of Steve McQueen competing in their Knatts Valley hillclimb in the very early 1950's. The page has since disappeared.
