  • In this video, I share a simple approach that you can use to build self-confidence. The key to this is to build a track record. If you don't currently have that confidence, my suggestion would be to 1) chose a goal that you can work on and 2) follow through with it for a period of time. This consistent follow through will help you build track record which then translate to trust and confidence. I hope this is helpful. Enjoy! #monks #buddhism #mentalhealth

When it comes to confidence, in my opinion, for men, the most important thing is to not tie your self worth with what women think about you sexually, or how much money you have.
It should come from your actions of trying to improve yourself daily and be a good person.
Especially in western countries this is a big issue

I think self confidence comes with happiness and Joy. And just accepting youself exactly as you are and being yourself.

That is easier said than done when sometimes external programming has taught someone they are wrong or do not fit the correct pigeon hole. If someone is made fun of their whole life for their body, they go to the gym, they change their diet, but they are still a large framed person, especially for women with social “norms” and body judgements it is often hard for that person to feel safe & acceptable in their own skin. The person can go to counseling and therapy but the minute a stranger or cruel family member fat shames them, they might slide back into self hate. Healing and self acceptance is not a light switch, unfortunately. It would be nice if it was.

Another thought: just because you couldn't stick to habits a decade ago, doesn't mean you can't start now. This happened to a friend of a friend of mine: trying to overcome disordered eating AND make your bed every day with no understanding that you need self-compassion was too much, but now a decade later this "friend" is able to set achievable goals and do them.

Thank you Venerable Nick. This video came at an uncanny time. Feeling shaky in my confidence despite having some small success in building up habits. I have to stop withholding giving myself the acknowledgement of my progress so far, and have faith that this shakiness will be lessen as I continue to put in effort every day.

I think it's basically a constant battle between one's own mental projections and dhamma (what is, actions/events and objective consequences of thoses).
Your mind can't trust something that isn't verified and consistent. Positive mental projections like self motivation or self love (without proof) could work for some time until reality checks happen and give us feedback.
Trust derives from the knowledge that something/someone is reliable with the same consistent (mesurable) results.
How can one be (self) confident without that? 😅

Hi Nick 🙏 - How do we deal with a elderly father who holds grudges against daughter(s) for her life failures? and for her not being (yet) successful? A father that holds a negative opinion of his own daughter and can forgive her for always keeping trying. Actually, he does not even see her trying... he just sees how she can't stop failing on "monetary" or "material" life...
    - See, just because I have never been married, I have no kids, and I haven't worked in jobs for more than a year - I have no finances and was 28 years waiting for my Greencard... he doesn't forgive me for my life failures... he said I will never make it, as I am a failure and unable to hold into anything. 😢😢😢 Sighs - What should I do?! I just went back May 2024 to Nurse school university, and he has said you will never get a degree.
