    Awesome sweet girl, please , let her know that no matter that she’s a little different from some people she can do anything they do, she’s just as talented and special as anyone else and she can do anything she wants in life. My cousin has Down syndrome she has her own apartment in New York City and is a fashion designer. She rides the bus,subway or takes a taxi to work and shopping,balances her checkbook, lol better than me. Your daughter is a beautiful girl.

    Hey Rick. I stumbled across this video late last night and saved it. Just finished watching. Many thanks for the post. I too was new to pop ups last year when I got my 93 Starcraft. All I knew was it was in great shape and no visible water damage. Been slowly learning what it has to offer and all the ins and outs. This video is a GREAT reference as to just how basic they really are and will provide me the confidence when I decide to do more in depth upgrades. Thank you sir and you have a beautiful family! Hope you found a better pop up to keep the camping trips coming.

    We had a 1970 Starcraft Constellation 8. This was real Starcraft before Jayco and Thor took them over. Ours was the last year with the hard roof over the bunk beds. Ours didn't have canvas around the lifters and we never had an issue of leaking. Jayco must have changed something.

    We bought a camper that I thought was in good condition. It didn't smell musty at all! Smelled like wood. Turns out, it has just about the same amount of rot! I replaced the driver's side of the roof wall last fall. Will do the passenger side this spring.
    It also had a lifting issue which was directly related to rot in the driver's side floor. It would take a huge amount of effort to raise the roof.
    Thanks for the video!

    I know this video is old, but your final comments about why you sold your camper (the lift arms not being covered) is something I’ve noticed for quite some time as I’ve driven around campgrounds. I have a ‘99 StarCraft with original fabric and learned early on that if the flaps that cover the lift arms aren’t securely velcro’d down (and tucked under the roof), it’s a direct channel for water to get inside the box of the camper. I recently watched a pop up rebuild video where the lift arms had been exposed and the whole lift arm mechanism and cable were full of rust.. Thankfully mine are clean and rust free, and the cables look great.. but that’s the way StarCraft designed it. Coleman pop up’s from the same era never had a covering from the factory…. Just blows my mind. I’m curious how many aging pop up’s have met their demise due to the water infiltration from exposed lift arms (by poor manufacturer design or a bad replacement canvas).

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  20 днів тому

      Thanks for watching. I'm sure I could have made a cover for them, but I didn't think we camped in it enough to worry about it. It did have a foam ring around the arm at the base. Maybe when it was new, the seal kept water from getting in.

    Thank you so much for the walk through. Most helpful. Your daughter is beautiful . My daughter is 32 and has Angelman syndrome and she also loves camping. We are doing a roof rebuild on a 1977 popup and we are struggling on how to do it. We were going to use stucco aluminum sheets for the outer skin, but couldn't get a sheet to do it in one piece. Didn't want to risk leakage with a join. Wondering what thickness did you use for the Ply on top and underneath please?

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  4 роки тому +1

      It was done with 1/4 luan for the outside and 1/8 ply for inside. Shops that fix semi trailers sometimes have large wide rolls of aluminum but they will be a bit thicker then what is used on campers.

    • @skylasunshine7296

    Thanks for putting this together. My family bought a popup from about the same year with a bit of sponginess in the floor in certain areas and I was debating whether to just replace the spongy sections or do a full reflooring myself. While it might be a project for next fall (or this summer if we can’t get out camping) I now feel like it is something that I can take on myself. Did you replace a lot of the edging around the corners of the top and walls or just reuse what was on there before?

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  4 роки тому

      The only metal trim I replaced was on the sides of the roof. Everything on the walls was reused. I just didn't feel like cleaning it up and the local store had some in stock. I dont think the camp grounds will open anytime soon so this might be a great summer to do it.

    Great video, Rick! We have a 1999 Starcraft Galexy and I am most of the way thru demolition removing the cabinets and planning to rebuild the side walls at the corners, and replace both end walls. I didnt remove the roof (yet) thinking it is fine as is, but I cant figure out how: a) the pillars are attached to the frame, and b) how the walls are attached to the floor. Can you give a bit more detail on those specific areas? Thanks a ton!

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  3 роки тому

      The lift poles are just held in place by the wall. After the top trim comes off and the wall trim covering the arms @2:09 and is removed then the arms will just fall in 3:12. So they are sandwiched in the wall and that's all that holds them up. The walls are held together on all the corners and the outside skirt is folded over the edge. You will find screws and staples going through the floor from underneath to hold the wall in place @3:30
      Hope that helps

    We have a 1999 Jayco that has quite a bit of rot in the walls, and we are trying to decide between rebuilding it (similar to what you've done here) , or replace it, depending on which is the least cost.
    Approximately how much did it cost to rebuild? I assume somewhere around $1500 since you bought it for $500 and sold it for $2000 and most people sell these types of things only for what they put into it.

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  4 роки тому +1

      I would say right around that 1500 mark. I could have sold it for more because campers go based on condition not age, I didn't know that when I sold it.
