You’re correct Micael. For some reason there was a Japanese version of Loopified and it included some additional songs, of which Automatic is one. The album is incredibly difficult to find and Automatic is only available on the Japanese version of Spotify.
@@florida0092 I bought the Japanese version of the album because it was available first. I'd heard enough of their covers and I was too obsessed to wait for the U.S. version. Glad I did too. I ended up with this tune. I love this like I love all the others. The original tune (by Utada Hikaru) is very much just an R&B slow jam. This is...not...LOL!
@@Nostaljack That’s awesome, I went as far as trying to hack Spotify into believing I was in Japan and then get the album onto my playlist. Where’s the Beat is another gem on that one. A crazy slap-you-in-da-face song that is impossible to categorize.
Wow, totally new for me too. A little hard for me to separate the quirky un-synced visuals from the music so I just closed my eyes and enjoyed the always wonderful Dirty Loops sound.
I just read that Automatic is a cover of a Utada Hikaru song. So strange! I was about to write in the live chatt that the chorus reminds me of another song. I now I know why! I have her album..! 😃 She is a famous singer in Japan Ps. Here is one live performance with her: ua-cam.com/video/JSb_x5lJ5DQ/v-deo.html
Yeah, I totally agree. This is part infusing pop like music with more complex chordal stuff, part sneaking jazzy stuff into the mainstream. It's kinda like Charlie Puth sneaking in five note chords or like major11 chords into songs that are obviously pop, or Jacob Collier sneaking wonky grooves or phrygian licks into his latest songs. Even if this isn't these guys' intention, it sure is nice to listen to.
Here I was thinking that I had heard them all but you found a missing piece. Thank you so much! You know that I like your reaction and that was a perfect start on this evening.
Song written by a 16yo girl Hikaru Utada in Tokyo. From her first solo album, which no one would sign a deal for , so her parents did a 50/50 lease deal with Sony . There was no film clip , no pics , no interviews , just a rumour she was cute . It sold 8.3 Million copies in Japan alone.
This was new to me, too - so thank you, Jeff. I think it is one of Dirty Loops strengths to make technical music listenable to a broader audience. Cheers! 🙋
Late to the premiere, but I hadn't heard this one either. Which begs the question... OMFG! WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE THAT I'VE MISSED?! WE WANT IT ALL, FELLAS! EVERY NOTE YOU'VE EVER PLAYED OR SANG IN YOUR LIFETIMES! Lol! 😂
I love all music but lean towards Prog. I have to thank the covid lock down for expanding my appreciation for bands i would not normally listen to. The first time i heard Snarky Puppy was a game changer. While i dont always love everything you or other reactors highlight, i always go in now with an open mind. That is how i stumbled upon DL. I never knew that Jazz Pop Fusion was something i was missing. I'm ok with Pop music when the musicianship is this high and i dont know that i consider DL pop. Current music on the radio does little for me and i find my self on the "Oldies" stations - the 80s and 90s lol.
Years ago I stumbled over Henrik and saw one song of a life gig somewhere on YT. I thought "what an incredible Bass player" but what is he doing in a full blown Pop band! ;-) It must have been a song like this and I only heard the "surface" lol

I have wondered why No One has reacted to this song. First Time I heard this was about two years Ago I think. Not My favorite from DL, but a really Good pop song.
I'm in tune with the comments below. Such an amazing band but who is the mystery man in the background who plays brilliant keys support to Jonah on keys but never seems to get any credit. I know Kristian Kraftling is one session player for them. are there others I wonder?
Yeah, they've had different auxilliary keyboard players for their live gigs. Kristian Kraftling is, I think, the one who's been with them the most, but this looks like it could be Arvid Svenungsson. Their mixer/co-producer Simon Petrén has played with them a fair bit, and there has been some other keyboard players as well. I guess it's all up to who is available at the time of the live gigs. They do get some credit though, as DL always presents them by name when doing the live gigs, and also has them bow with them when recieving the applauses after the gig.
Wow, knowing before the DL cover, just learnt that it's actually a cover of Utada Hikaru song, well... too many missing chords 😃😃😃 not easy to move from DL cover to the original one!
Another great reaction! I don't know if you're into Gino Vannelli or not, but if so, would you consider reacting to songs from his very jazz influenced Yonder Tree CD, or the live versions from his Live in LA DVD of either Brother To Brother or Appaloosa ( there are live videos from that DVD up on UA-cam... thank you!)
Years ago I listened to Gino A LOT! Loved his light and intelligent compositions and arrangements, typical italian approach in a way similar to Pino Daniele.
@@matto9734 ...I saw him at the Jacksonville Coliseum in FL in 1978 I think it was. It was one of the better sounding show's I've even attended. The entire band was hot hot.
@Ben , I could not agree more on Gino Vannelli, a very underrated singer. Unfortunately he got some visibility when he moved on "rocky" Black Cars, I'm quite sure he did just to try to get a bit more of success...way far from Brother to Brother, thats the GV flagship! In my channel you may see a couple of video I took by myself in Italy and France live concert
I think that’s Simon Petrén. Basically the fourth member of DL. He’s pretty accomplished as well. 😆 “Simon Petrén (born 14 March 1986) is a Swedish music producer, songwriter, mix engineer and mastering engineer. He holds a Diploma in Piano Music Performance at the Royal Schools of Music in London and a Bachelor degree in Film Scoring and Music Production at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.”
I think these guys are pop-y enough in that Jacksonian way so that most pop fans probably won't even realize they've been progged. The more difficult accomplishment, in my estimation, is to get us snobs whose bar was set way high by Zappa and King Crimson to jump out of our seats screaming, "WTF!!!" and dance our ancient asses off!
