Holy cow--I saw another Dark Curiosities in my queue and thought "No way!" but here you are, and i see i'm not the only happy subscriber; you're spoiling us... but thank you DC!
Let's also say that this guy portrayed himself as a successful business man that ran a very busy company specialized in fundraising for charities, while in reality he was unemployed and spent all day at Panera Bread. That ruse went on for years. Also, the family of the second wife (Toni) had oil fields and they were super wealthy. Toni received monthly checks from the petroleum they sold; once Toni was dead, those moneys would belong to their daughter, but Harold would be the one receiving and managing the monthly checks, which were substantial.
It's hard to imagine the arrogance of a man who can murder his wife, get a substantial payout by way of life insurance, and then to do the same to his second wife. Do these people never stop to consider that they will be the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion? It beggars belief!!
That’s exactly what women do. Btw even after all this- women still wouldn’t leave men alone. In this case, just wait and see, how many desperate women write love letters to him 😂
Is it just me, but I find it ridiculous that a person can purchase a life insurance policy on another person?? It just doesn't seem that it should be allowed....or am I misunderstanding how that process works?
Janet, it’s my understanding that you can get a life insurance policy on anyone anytime. They do not have to be present or even know you’re doing this. This loophole will hopefully be closed some day.
What's ridiculous about life insurance on your spouse? I have a policy on my daughter, and she's the beneficiary of mine. My ex husband and I both had policies on each other. My parents had hefty ones on each other, small ones on me and my sister, and all of us were also beneficiaries of the others. It's being responsible. Funerals are expensive. That's like saying car insurance is ridiculous if you don't plan on being in a wreck. If you're referring to taking out huge ones right before someone dies, and if it's only for one spouse, yeah, a questionable death soon after will be suspicious. Otherwise, there's no reason to consider it ridiculous. Hindsight is always 20/20.
@@carolynjiminez1247Nonsense, you have to have an insurable interest. I'm not trying to be hateful but did you all miss the part where both of them were his spouses? That's not "anyone". It's perfectly reasonable to have life insurance on your family members. Now, I have no doubt that his motivation to get the insurance was solely money, and zero doubt that he killed them both, but having insurance is in no way responsible for that.
I often hear about these killers getting life insurance policies out on loved ones. Can you just take out a life insurance policy on someone? Surely they have to be involved and consent to it?? Be aware of it?
I wonder the same. I suppose they forge the partner's signature on the policy documents. I have heard of cases, where the perpetrator takes along a stranger and pretends they are the spouse.
Anyone can take a policy out on anyone else. Insurance companies don't care as long as the premiums are paid. Employers can take them out on employees, parents on children and vice versa. Heck, I could even take one out on you if I wanted- I would just have to provide your personal details and proof of death to claim.
@darkwoods1954 No, that's an exaggeration. You have to have an insurable interest. In other words, you have to have a reasonable tie to the person. They will almost always ask what the relationship is; you have to prove that you will lose something if the person dies. And yes, except for children, the insured has to consent. You hit the nail on the head; these were his loved ones. Any responsible person will have insurance on their spouse. I have a policy on my child. My parents had one on me, and they have one on themselves for me.
It's interesting how evil desires can often cloud rational thinking. He made some really dumb decisions that basically ended up putting him in the spotlight. It's so devastating that his plans worked, and 2 innocent women lost their lives. 💔💔
Thanks for another great episode! So much of any criminal case rests on the investigation. Almost all miscarriages of justice have been the result of improper, incomplete or prejudiced investigation and the presentation of evidence. I believe that, in this case, justice was served.
Colorado has lots of these kind of trails someone can "accidentally" fall from. As a native even if there are people around you can find so many nooks and hidey holes that have horrific drops. Bonus for criminals is cell phone service is spotty at best. But our parks, and mountains are beautiful....nust trust the person you go with 😉
But the weird thing Is- women still wouldn’t leave men alone. A lot of them still are gonna write love letters and send marriage proposals to this “controlling murderer”. Sickening 🤮
I'm sorry but what is wrong with these women?? If my husband told me we were going HIKING to celebrate our anniversary, I would say this, verbatim: "Hiking?? Have you lost your mind?? I'm not going HIKING, F YOU, I want a divorce!!" AND, she had a bad knee and still went along with him?? Come on ladies!!! Get a clue. He might as well have invited her to an axe throwing contest. She probably would have gone to that too!!
Calm down. I mean yes Hiking sounds awful and Id be the same way. "You're taking me on a shitty hike?" "for our anniversary?" "hell no" "Not happening" What happened to dinner and a movie? But still she wasn't to know Harold was going to kill her. The life insurance policies are disturbing
I remember this story being on the program unsolved mysteries when I was much younger but I never remember hearing that he went to prison. What an evil, evil man. I hope he’s haunted by the women he murdered every night in his prison cell.
I feel for their daughter Hayley. To lose both parents on for one to be the cause of the other would be so traumatizing. I hope she is doing well in life. She would be about 23-24 now.
I dont think so coincidences do happen. And also the woman got under a car and not on solid ground either but gravel. First one just fell off a cliff. False conviction just to run the husband down the field. Like the gov is known for.
Such a sad story 😢 these men who murder their spouses knowing that they will receive insurance money. Do they really think that they going to get away with their crimes. People will start suspecting these murders being 9:19 foul play. Thanks for sharing 👍

Fabulous presentation on this very tawdry human being that murdered both his beautiful wives. Thank you. ❤
Meticulously investigated, clearly reported. You have an excellent speaking voice. Thank you for posting.

Perhaps possible as most people feel immortal... so for a low-life sociopath, I guess he felt he wouldn't get caught.

These people are selfish
They have no morals
If they escape those two realizations then typical logic probably escapes them
They believe that they are smarter than everyone else and can talk their way out of everything.
That is exactly what it is. Narcissistic behavior. @@melissaconnellyjones2622

Lets be honest he handed his guilt onto a plate by completely bumbling his story over and over again

Its not possible in most maybe all banks in Europe. Sadly America and Asia is different.
