1) Thank you for reacting to this band. 2) Discovering this band is like winning a lottery you didn't realize you entered. 3) Welcome to the world in which this band exists. 4) Enjoy the ride. It will be special.
MISA (bass) is pretty well-known for switching between pick, finger plucking, and slapping in rapid sequence. She has even developed her own signature move to quickly transfer her pick behind her thumb when she's switching styles. She's an absolute phenom!
@@glenkelley6799 I tried to get the technique down for decades. I was never able to get a good sounding slap when I tried. The first time I saw Misa pulling it off with ease and sounding fantastic, I nearly threw my bass out the window. I still can't get it to sound right.
Rig rundown if you're interested:- Misa - Bass, Black Cloud black smoker, variety of body styles, Fender jazz, SG, Jaguar. For a long time Orange amps but she seems to have switched to Aguila recently. Miku - Rhythm, Zemaitis, too many models to mention but mainly uses her signature model now 'Flappy Pigeon'. Plays through EVH 5150 Kanami - Lead, PRS custom 24 mainly now also custom 22 in the past, several models but mainly 'Angry Larry' now. Used Addictone originaly of which there is a Kanami model. Plays through Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier. Akane - Drums, Tama Star Babinga usually with black pearl Ludwig snare, Martin heads, Wincent sticks custom made for her, Zildjan cymbals
Alright, I was going to fill in the rig on this track, but you got it all, plus the current rigs they are using. The only thing to add is about MiSA's bass technique... She uses a pick a lot of the time, but she is able to palm the pick and switch to a slap/plucking hybrid technique when she wants. This is what she was doing during her solo.
@@keithrollman1763 I think she prefers to rent amps for overseas tours, hence the Marshall. I think I've only ever seen her with the 5150 when she's playing in Japan.
Nice to have another musician discover the maids. Fun to watch you discover the many layers of little musical surprises the girls throw in when they're not the center of focus. All their songs, though varied through a range of pop, rock, metal, prog are all notable for having catchy melodies, multi layers, never repeating a verse or chorus the same way in a song, a build up in every section, amazing bridges, and solos that while technical displays of musicianship still always service the song and the melody. Plus they are more than just a band that goes on stage, plays their set, then goes home ... They are always coming up with ways to please their 'masters and princesses' (that's what they call their fans, we call ourselves 'maidiacs' though) and they all have great personalities, both off stage in their normal lives, and on stage where they take on their stage personas (even the band itself has a couple of persona... An acoustic version, and a 'traditional' persona called 'Band Maiko' (Maiko being a 'Geisha in training') Over 120 songs ... All masterpieces.
Yo! I've seen a couple of your Warning and V.O.B videos and knew you'd wind up here. The Maids have a great catalog of songs (they're celebrating their 10th anniversary this year) that are very....varied. Truly a box of chocolates. It's a worthy "pigeon hole" (that'll make sense soon) to travel down. Welcome to Band-Maid ...and The Maidiacs that come with 'em! 🕊
Hi Michael, welcome to Band-Maid Yo! MISA the bassist often holds a pick while slapping, she can switch from pick to slap and back in a micro second. She transfers the pick to under her first finger. There are video's where she demonstrates her pick-tuck technique. Though mainly hard rock Band-Maid mix a lot of genres (Punk, Pop Punk, classic rock, metal, prog, jazz, rap, blues, groove), often in one song. To me they are the finest hard rock band around today. Enjoy!
Welcome aboard, Michael. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 174 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (125 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits like Sense, Glory and Unleash (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html) And many songs are represented with 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts: ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” ua-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/v-deo.html Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” ua-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/v-deo.html ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” ua-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/v-deo.html Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD. “P and D²” 30+ Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinD2/videos And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 29 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 31 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 31 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 32 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 30 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. The Maids are one of the hardest working super groups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids... and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE!
Their songs have quite a variety of sounds. Some groove rock songs, some punk rock, some heavy, others catchier... They are talented enough to do whatever they want with the music.
Yo! Nothing to add all the other Band-Maid fans haven’t already said, but I really appreciated your reaction. They rock hard and they have a incredibly big catalog of great songs. Looking forward to seeing you hear what they can do.
Thx for the lovely reaction. This band's catalog is large, creative and gorgeous. It's very difficult to appreciate or to express just how special this band is without mentioning the quality and diversity of their sound. Hope you make some time to explore their catalog: it will make you smile and feel good about stuff.
"The guitar seems a little under-mixed". Yes, yes it does. It's hard not to notice throughout this live bluray, and it's a real head-scratcher. I can tell you Kanami's guitar was loud and clear at the concert last night. Great mix.
i don't know why but i thought you already knew about Band-Maid. i think it is because you like The Warning and the fan base for each is always interwined even the girls of Band-Maid and The Warning are fans of each other
That moment, around the 9 minute mark, when you realize, they're not just a cutesie girlie band, but actually seriously skilled musicians... priceless 😉
LOVE your reaction!💖 Experienced musicians initially underestimated them, but when they heard their performance, they were so amazed that they were left speechless😨 It was a moment where I saw that reaction after a long time LOL. Alright, dude, no problem. We're all the same, you know. ✨🥰🤘
Misa the base player master all four ways to play: with pick, finger, slapping and finger taping. What impress the most to me is she switch between pick and slap in the same strumming motion. BAND-MAID's music hoover most of the time between hard rock, punk, prog and rock. Sometimes they do powerballad and ballad. They mix and blend between the genres in every song and they got atm over 130(?) songs to choose from, and non of the songs are bad! Just that is impressive, I think. I suggest you continue to react and jump into the pigeon hole (as we madiacs call it) and become blown away what this band can do. You wont regret it for sure. This band is something else!
Masterclass transition from Akane (Dr) to Kanami (Lead G) to Saiki (Lead V). FYI, they are roaming around the US rn, and they will be back in August 2023, You should check them out live, Po! Great reaction, Sir! Btw, as others have mentioned, Misa (Bass) tucks her pick in her palm with her index finger when slapping. As a bass player, it's a sight to see, Po! 🦍🍌To the end, Po!
I love these girls. They're never content with "good enough" and always go the extra mile. During Japan's covid lockdown they all really doubled down on improving their skills and came out the other side an even better band than they went in. The more you listen to them the more you'll find to appreciate because every song is absolutely layered with gems and surprises.

Rock On! 🤘 *100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back…*
I found Band Maid during the pandemic and they have quickly entered the hallowed halls of my own personal rock and roll HOF. Been listening to rock and metal for nearly 50 years and, IMO, they are better than any rock band that has formed since the 70’s. Not based on this song, or a select group of great songs, but because they have over 100 songs without a clunker among them! And very few are what I would say are “just okay”. They’re consistently great. The list of bands that I would say such a thing about is extremely small.
A great example of the many Japanese all female bands, who are actual musicians. A generalisation I know but you need to go back to the 1970's in the west to experience a similar level of musicianship and song writing ability. Since the 1980's with the rise of auto tune, computers and good backing, the art of learning to play an instrument has almost become superfluous. Combined with easy money for the record companies it all adds up to why in the west we have talentless wonders selling millions of albums, who can neither sing well or play. Band Maid and other Japanese lady bands such as Lovebites, Nemophila, do use backing for their live performances. It is a testament to the stage audio crew the way they balance the audio levels. To repeat, in general Japanese bands are a throw back to what we used to have in the west before the rise and rise of mainstream US Radio stations playing nothing but commercially pleasing and advert revenue generating length songs.
Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at that legendary "Budokan". (Rush from your country played at the same venue in 1984). Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Don't expect them to follow rules. Band-Maid does Band-Maid things. This is one of the two "Beginner videos" to bring people in but they have so much more. Notice at 7:31 that MISA (bassist) picks then flips the pick under her index finger to slap then flips the pick back out to pick again.
Herman Li of Dragon Force and Jimmy Paige of Led Zeppelin approved not to mention the best live rock band and rock band in general in the the last 30 years which is just of many reasons why us Maidiacs and many musicians love B-M so much
Band-Maid is one of the best bands in the world ! Some of their best songs are "Blooming" Mv or "From Now On" MV =) They are a great live band as you can see ! You can plck any song and it will be a winner ! Thanks Michael Great Reaction
What is confusing you about the bass player is that she can palm the pick like a magician. So she can instantly switch between picking the strings and slapping the strings, literally without missing a beat.
MISA, the bassist, switches between picking and slapping during her solo. She has a trick where she tucks the pick into her fingers to slap. She also taught Kanami, the lead guitarist, this trick and you can see her not using her index finger when tapping.
Same here. Thought u knew the maids too. My favorite 2 bands, the warning & the maids. The bassist is MISA aka "the barefoot assassin". She is slapping with her pick tucked away and then flips it out. Sleight of hand trick. Oh and the others. Miku "small pigeon" Kobato-founder/rhythm gtr./2nd vocal/lyricist. Saiki "the ice queen" Atsumi-lead vocal,/lyrics. Kanami "mincho" Tono-lead gtr,/composer. Akane "gorilla" Hirose-drums. Best live & no bad songs. Diverse. Check out a live twofer, "manners/black hole" official live. I'll send a link with another side of them.
Yo! You seem to have enjoyed this song quite a bit. Good news, 'cause there's 120 more songs to go. Pack a lunch, it's gonna be a long and excellent trip.
MISA! MISA! MISA! Holding the Line in Solid Guitar Rock, Band Maid has picked up the Mantel of Rock'n'Roll where the West has left it behind! MISA, on Bass, is the master of switching between a pick and slapping...she has only dropped her pick once in over 6 years! More Band Maid Always!! Put your Kitsune Up!! Po!
Not really. Live is usually better, but there are a few songs where the MV is way better than the live version. Thrill Warning Dice Different to name a few.
@@Davey-Boyd No fix your ears. Or get better headphones or speakers. Im not rude it's just the facts. Now go listen to dice live and then say that studio is better? you've got to be kidding, huh? I know it's impossible to get your type to understand anything.
@@xXxJSHxXx Ooooooh you don't like people having a different opinion than you eh? Yes what you wrote is in fact rude. And rather immature. Learn something from the ladies - be nice.
@@xXxJSHxXx I gotta side with Davey on this one. There are even some live performances the ladies don't like, such as the truncated version of 'RINNE' they were forced to perform on a TV show. Most of their live performances are better, but not *all* of them.
"🤘🤘 ¡ ¡ ¡ B A N D M A I D H E A D ! ! ! 🤘🤘"
I always get super happy when someone discovers them and really get it. It’s a very emotional experience seeing them live and being apart of the show. They are the most interactive band I’ve ever seen. Great insights.
@@michaelgoyettemusic it’s weird to explain, but it’s the sound a pigeon makes in Japanese (in America we’d say “coo”) One of the Band Members, it’s founding member, is a bit quirky and has a fun persona where she makes pigeon noises at the end of sentences. It sounds weird, but its just a fun thing that they do that the fanbase has really embraced.
@@michaelgoyettemusic It's sort of a running joke with Band-Maid. The founder of the band is rhythm guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato means "small pigeon" in Japanese, and the tongue-in-cheek lore is that she's actually an 810-year-old pigeon disguised as a human. "Po" is short for "karuppo" (also sometimes given as "cluppo," which is the name of her side project), which is how the Japanese describe the sound of a pigeon's coo. When Miku speaks to the crowd, she tends to punctuate her sentences with "po" at the end.
@@michaelgoyettemusic Um, "po" is what Miku (backup vocals, rhythm guitar, lyricist) says, because her name (Kobato) means pigeon (or dove) in Japanese. I think "po" is a pigeon sound. She claims to be an 810 year old pigeon. Glad you asked?
Cool that you like BAND-MAID, yo! I found them thru The Warning, since they listen to BAND-MAID. And the 2 bands met each other last year at a festival (maybe Aftershock?), there is a brief clip of it, apparently each band was excited to meet the other. I see some have recommended Lovebites as another band out of Japan to check out (Holy Wars is my first and favorite) - and that is full of guitars!!
They have total control of their music. Kanami, lead guitar, is the primary composer with MISA, bass, and Akane, drums, create their lines from the basic music from Kanami. Miku, 2nd guitar, backing vocals, spokes pigeon is the primary Lyricist with Saiki, main vocals working with Miku. The maid costumes are to create the "Gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing Demure Maids vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. They now refer to their costumes as their Battle Armor!! Miku designs the costumes!! If you want to see where maid concept came from, just do a YT search by inputing Maid Cafe!! Next - "Puzzle" older song but update
Yo. I'm not a quitter. They produced an album in 2021 called *Unseen World* that has some outstanding music on it. It has some old-school rock and some prog punk metal madness. There's a "streamed live" (because of covid) from 2021 with two songs, *Manners* and *Black Hole* that shows the two extremes. They also have ballads and instrumentals, *from now on* is their current instrumental. You should check it out.

Kanami a.k.a. Mincho uses primarily 2 PRS Custom 24's, a red one and a green one. Miku uses the 5150 with her custom Pigeon Zemaitis. She also has an acoustic Zemaitis. Misa likes to switch from picking to slapping or plucking on her 5 string bass.
Welcome to the world of BAND-MAID. I have been listening to rock music since the 70s. These ladies are making my favorite music these days. If you want a dose of excellent guitar work, do their official live video for the instrumental Onset. They are mostly doing original works these days, including the one you just listened to, they just friggin rock!
@Michael Goyette Welcome to Japan music! You need to continue your Japan journey with Lovebites next. Recommend Holy war live 2020...get ready for dual guitars attack...Midori & Miyako! 🤘🎸
Best hard rock band out there right now - they're also touring right now in the US, and will be back in August. Their live shows are a rollicking great time. Their songs are more often than not like peeling back the layers of an onion, as there is usually a lot more going on than you notice the first time (or 2nd, or 100th). Every measure or so they're doing something different or cool - like the unorthodox drum pattern you noticed. This band is a ton of fun and very interesting to a musician's mind. Hope you check more of their songs out, because you'll really have a great time with them!
Japan offers a cornucopia of excellent bands for you to explore. Just to name a few: Lovebites, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus, Wagakki Band, Ningen Isu, and Asterism.
Loved this reaction. Welcome to Band Maid. They’re somehow as equally impressive musically as they are catchy as hell. They’ve been rocking for a decade and Somehow they only get better as they go.
If you really want to blow your mind with some Band-Maid diversity, try "Manners"/"Black Hole" -- Manners is funky groove. Black Hole is a wild ride through proggy chaos with 220 bpm, but with heaps of musical thought put into it. Oh, and the bass shines in both songs. All these songs are brought to you by our favourite dorky nerdy composer, Kanami, the lead guitarist. Oh, and watch "From Now On" simply because it is great.
Nice reaction. They mix a lot of punk into the pop/hard rock blend, and a little metal and hip hop as well. But it all works. You should check out one of their newer songs, the lead guitar's songwriting has become more creative over time. Try BLACK HOLE (on a two-song video with Manners) and Blooming. You might also like a recent instrumental, From Now On. My current favorite song from Band Maid. By the way, the bass player moves back and forth between using a pick and slapping. She tucks the pick under her index finger to use her thumb.
Lead Guitarist, Kanami makes all the backing tracks. It has any keyboard she played for the studio version as well as effects or additional percussion, doubled vocals that aren't done digitally. If you go back you'll see them gather around Akane on the drums and make faces at her. It's a little game they play, trying to make her laugh during the hard part and throw her off. Not a chance! Once she locks into the backing track she is Rock Steady! They don't call her The Beast for nothing. She is a banana powered Half Gorilla / Half Drum Machine. However, don't think they have to have it. Once when the airline lost the computer they just rearranged their setlist and the show went on. They were more concerned about the sneakers they had bought in L.A.
I just saw them in Nashville for the second time in 8 months and they are just awesome live. They opened with this song. Best hard rock band out there touring currently. React to any of their official videos as there is not a bad song there.
Loved the vocals! Wish the guitar solo was clearer in the mix, but I'm always 100% down for recordings of live performances even if the mix isn't perfect. edit: uh, 🪀
Oh my gosh, you have opened the floodgates. Why do you love this? Because they may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles. (Yes, I stand by that statement!) You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 29 years old MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 30 years old Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 31 years old Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 31 years old Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 32 years old Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted a music video, “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 160 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them twice (2019 and 2022) and their shows are truly life-reaffirming. They are touring the U.S. twice more in 2023; So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2024. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. You've just seen the best all female Japanese rock band. Now it's time to see the best all female Japanese heavy metal band LOVEBITES. They have one of the best guitar DUOS ever in heavy metal, bar none. Please react to their music video Judgement Day - all lyrics are in English but enable CC anyway for the best experience.
Great group & song to react and analyze Michael. I see a lot of guitar players confused by Misa's bass playing because of how she can tuck the pick and move to slapping and back to the pick...without missing a chord. They are all very talented and hard working artists. I think you would enjoy reacting/analyzing their live version of 'Freedom'...small sections of solo's from each player...and pretty good camera shots. 👍👍

Domination is a f great song, and not even my favorite song. They have what, 140+ songs?, and you can't even say, "Oh that's their style eh?" because they play so many different styles. Only pop element in their music is "vocal line", the singer has rock voice on stage though. Other than that they mix up any genres that fit one of their songs, seemlessly. There are so many things I love about this Band. They are so versatile and unique. The more you listen, the more you love them. You pick up the secret ingredients that you didn't notice on first taste (listen). Once you're sucked into their music you can never come out of it.
You probably already heard it, but if you like guitar, there are two Japanese all girl bands to look out for. They both have two very skilled lead guitarists that do alternating solos and also harmonizing duos and generally during the song are totally fantastic. Both bands are considered metal, but are very skilled and do whatever. They both also have very skilled drummers. The bands are Lovebites and Nemophila. They have two very different and good singers. Nemophila is generally harder and has a screaming singer with a raspy clean voice. Lovebites is speed or trash metal and the singer is kind of operatic maybe. Both bands are worth listening to whether you do reactions or not. Japan has many pleasant surprises! Nemophila has a bonus. Apart from their good original songs, they have lots of fantastic covers. Mostly rock, but also whatever. The covers generally is not as hard as their originals. They also have another bonus and that is the drummer Tamu. If you want to you can follow her on UA-cam, She has her own videos and she is amazing. BTW - I think Lovebites has 50+10 original songs or so. 50 with the old basist and 10 with the new.
Saiki was slapping- well she switched from slap to picking several times. she tucks the pick into her hand and can switch back and forth very fast. Hiding the pick in the hand probably causes her hand to be held a bit strangely for slapping compared to someone who just slaps and hasnt got a pick tucked in the hand.. There are other vids where you get to see her switching styles back and forth better. And she doesnt just go from slap to pick :) she will also play cords and also pluck with her fingers. Misa is one of the best bassists in the world - she does SO much all the time in almost every song.
The Ladies refer to themselves as "Hard Rock" although they incorporate many other genres of music in their songs. Many times multiple genres in the same song. Many of us fans or "Masters and Princesses" as the Ladies refer to us as, say they have founded their own genre, since no one else sounds like they do. Here is an information file I post for new reactors to Band-Maid, hopefully this doesn't get hidden or circular filed by YT. Band Maid Is; (In order of joining band) Name/Age: Nickname: Position: Miku Kobato Small Pigeon/ Band Founder, Secondary Lead Vocalist, Rhythm Guitarist, Main Lyricist, Age: 31 Koba/Kuruppo/ Backing Vocals, Backing Tracks, Arrangements 10/21/91 Cluppo Kanami Tono Princess/ Lead Guitarist, Primary Composer, Backing Vocals, Keyboards, Backing Tracks Age: 31 Kanamincho/ Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Arrangements 9/28/91 Mincho Akane Hirose Gorilla/ Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Backing Tracks, Age: 32 Ah-Chan Arrangements 12/14/90 MISA Barefoot Assassin/ 5 String Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Backing Tracks Age: 30 MISA-MISA-MISA Arrangements 10/15/92 Saiki Atsumi Ice Queen/ Primary Lead Vocalist, Backing Vocals, Lyricist, Backing Vocals on Backing Age: 29 Sai-Chan/ Tracks, Backing tracks, Arrangements 2/8/94 Sensei (Teacher) Now for what I term the Band-Maid Info-Dump; Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their UA-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. Kanami the Lead guitarist uses lots of different techniques, from trem picking to tapping and everything in between. If you really want to hear some of her excellence try their newest instrumental "From Now On" where her guitar takes over the vocal line of the song. As for the sound, Kanami many times has her guitar lower in the overall mix to not take attention away from the other instrumentalists. Most of us complain that she needs to be louder in the mix. And Kanami has only been playing guitar for about 14 years, she has been playing piano however for almost 28 years. MISA the bassist will switch from using a pick, to slap and pop or snap and claw and back to the pick so fast that even if you know and are watching her do it, you miss it when she palms the pick with her index finger and then switches back. And this song is a declaration of their intent to take over the world with their music. They are saying we are standing up, and saying HELLO WORLD. HERE WE ARE! And the Ladies play to a click track. And you can watch dozens of fancams and overlay them and they are ALWAYS in time. I've seen much older and more famous bands that even with a click track, have issues staying in time. Not a quitter, still have things to type. I recommend you try ANY of their other songs, the Live videos are usually better, with a couple exceptions. But I'll let you find those for yourself, unless you really wish to know.
🤘🤘 love Band-Maid ,would be great if you added BAND-MAID / Play (Official Live Video) and BAND-MAID / onset (Official Live Video) to your list for a reaction, great stuff👌
Band-Maid attracts musicians like bugs to a UV-light 2000V bug zapper. Oh, look, we caught another musician.... heh heh heh... Well, as a certain famous band once sang - "You can check-out anytime you like, but you can never leave." What a very true statement... for bug zappers especially. Welcome to Band-Maid. 😁
MISA switches freely from pick to slap. If you look at the part you were puzzling over she switches I think three times, so fast you never actually see it.
Seems like you're still relatively new to Band-Maid though just for clarification, Band-Maid are not Pop Metal or Metal for that matter, but Hard Rock, currently in the middle of their 10th anniversary tour but honestly, categorisation be damned when it comes to Band-Maid. It's just Band-Maid music. Certainly hope you enjoy what you see and hear from these remarkable women and that you'll continue to explore more of their work and that of many of their fellow countrymen and women✌️❤️🤘🌏
If you're going down the Japanese all-female rock/metal band rabbit hole (which you absolutely should, because it is awesome), then you also need to check out LOVEBITES. They are a Speed/Power/Thrash metal band. If you appreciate musicianship, then LOVEBITES collectively have more musical talent on the stage than almost any other band in existance. If fact, the only band I know of with sufficient musical talent to play LOVEBITES' entire catalogue is Dream Theater. So, if you're looking for something a little heavier and more technical than Band Maid, give LOVEBITES a try.
Cool reaction Michael. A request though, could you level the audio a bit next time pls? Your voice level is half the song level - so if I turn it up to hear you I get blasted in my headphones when the music restarts....and you are starting and stopping a lot. Cheers 🙂
Appreciate the skills and talent and considering they are playing live to a very responsive audience and have obvious appeal, they are not really what I choose to listen to these days in my decrepitude. Each to their own always. Rock on you YOuthful, energetic, gorgeous gals!😮😅 Maybe I’ll talk myself into it lol❤
Dude … Misa the bass player is switching between slapping and picking by tucking the pick temporarily and flipping it back to pick. She’s known for it. “pick flip”
1) Thank you for reacting to this band.
2) Discovering this band is like winning a lottery you didn't realize you entered.
3) Welcome to the world in which this band exists.
4) Enjoy the ride. It will be special.
3) correction ~ change exists to rules😊
MISA (bass) is pretty well-known for switching between pick, finger plucking, and slapping in rapid sequence. She has even developed her own signature move to quickly transfer her pick behind her thumb when she's switching styles. She's an absolute phenom!
Actually its her index finger that she tucks the pick under :)
@@glenkelley6799 I was close, lol!
@@glenkelley6799 I tried to get the technique down for decades. I was never able to get a good sounding slap when I tried. The first time I saw Misa pulling it off with ease and sounding fantastic, I nearly threw my bass out the window. I still can't get it to sound right.
And she taps as well as plucks, picks, and slaps (see the intro to Clang at Bochum)
Rig rundown if you're interested:-
Misa - Bass, Black Cloud black smoker, variety of body styles, Fender jazz, SG, Jaguar. For a long time Orange amps but she seems to have switched to Aguila recently.
Miku - Rhythm, Zemaitis, too many models to mention but mainly uses her signature model now 'Flappy Pigeon'. Plays through EVH 5150
Kanami - Lead, PRS custom 24 mainly now also custom 22 in the past, several models but mainly 'Angry Larry' now.
Yup!
Looks like Miku is back to Marshal on the current tour...they seem to be louder and punchier than last year.
Lately Kanami seems to prefer the Custom 24-08.
An acoustic version, and a 'traditional' persona called 'Band Maiko' (Maiko being a 'Geisha in training')
Over 120 songs ...
Yo thanks for being around for a little while! There’s so much out there I didn’t know!! It’s awesome
Enjoy!
Very Right, Puh! Greetings from Hamburg, Po!
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits like Sense, Glory and Unleash (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)
And many songs are represented with 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies.

I will find out in time. :). Thanks.
They got Instrumentals too, yo 🤘🔥🤘
Ok……yo
@@michaelgoyettemusic 'From now on', their newest instrumental is mine blowing.
The Japanese metal and hard rock scene is just amazing right now. Also refreshing to see so many women killing it.
Yo! Nothing to add all the other Band-Maid fans haven’t already said, but I really appreciated your reaction. They rock hard and they have a incredibly big catalog of great songs. Looking forward to seeing you hear what they can do.
Yo 🙏
Thanks Michael! Welcome to Band-Maid!
Great mix.
Oh wow so cool!!
Yes it was. I was on rail between Sai n Kanami and it was pure...LOUD
this is why I love the live version of Puzzle. they nailed the mix in that one
i don't know why but i thought you already knew about Band-Maid. i think it is because you like The Warning and the fan base for each is always interwined even the girls of Band-Maid and The Warning are fans of each other
They’ve been on the playlist for a while but I haven’t been keeping up with the growing list !
Just saw Band Maid in Atlanta on Friday. Kick ass theatre show with about 1800 people.
That moment, around the 9 minute mark, when you realize, they're not just a cutesie girlie band, but actually seriously skilled musicians... priceless 😉
It couldn’t have taken that long…….
LOVE your reaction!💖 Experienced musicians initially underestimated them, but when they heard their performance, they were so amazed that they were left speechless😨 It was a moment where I saw that reaction after a long time LOL. Alright, dude, no problem. We're all the same, you know. ✨🥰🤘
❤️
Pigeon hole, Po! 🙂
@@stonefaction Ofc! 😳It's corrected!☺

Great reaction! Welcome to the Band-Maid rabbit hole, you will not be disappointed.
Music you love is a gift…I look forward to the journey.
(Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz".

Cool. ❤️
Yes Marty is a fan of our Maid's amougst others.Welcome to BAND-MAID.

Good news, 'cause there's 120 more songs to go.

Aquí te dejo mi particular carta de presentación para intentar definir un poco lo indefinible que es esta BANDA.
Y el Rock and Roll dijo:
"🤘🤘 ¡ ¡ ¡ B A N D M A I D H E A D ! ! ! 🤘🤘"
I always get super happy when someone discovers them and really get it. It’s a very emotional experience seeing them live and being apart of the show. They are the most interactive band I’ve ever seen. Great insights.
Yo! And Po! I'm ready to see them in four days (in St. Louis) for the second time in less than a year (saw them in Chicago last November)!
What does PO mean? Yo. ❤️
@@michaelgoyettemusic it’s weird to explain, but it’s the sound a pigeon makes in Japanese (in America we’d say “coo”)
One of the Band Members, it’s founding member, is a bit quirky and has a fun persona where she makes pigeon noises at the end of sentences. It sounds weird, but its just a fun thing that they do that the fanbase has really embraced.
@@evilducks3710 even weirder that it’s being explained by a duck with possibly bad intentions 😂
Band-Maid best hard rock band
We love everything about this band, but the second verses are where it's at. Thank you for listening to BAND-MAID!
Do you have any idea how many "guitarist" have tried to duplicate Kanami guitar playing. They fail!!
They are a Hard Rock band>
I’m glad yo!! ❤️
I’ll be checking out a bunch. My interest is peaked.

She switching between picking and slapping by tucking and retrieving the pick … instantly. It’s her signature move.
I love healthy doses of guitar!!! ❤️
"From now on" is the best!
I just saw them live in Nashville two days ago. They are touring in the US right NOW
Nice reaction.
You are the Man for Lovebites with the 2 World best Guitarplayers
Welcome to Band Maid!!
Wish the guitar solo was clearer in the mix, but I'm always 100% down for recordings of live performances even if the mix isn't perfect.
edit: uh, 🪀
Yeah it’s good stuff. ❤️ 🪀
Yo, great band!!!
Oh my gosh, you have opened the floodgates. Why do you love this? Because they may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles. (Yes, I stand by that statement!)
You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band:
Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 29 years old
MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 30 years old
Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 31 years old
Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 31 years old
Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 32 years old
Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through.

The band is LOVEBITES. 60 song catalogue.
Recommend Play, Freedom, and Warning next. They never disappoint.
Yo! They remind me of the hairbands without the drugs and bad behavior. Heavy instrumentation combined with catchy melodies but updated to 2020s

Now for what I term the Band-Maid Info-Dump;
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato.
(Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid.
Check they new official live video Puzzle!!! Incredible guitar songs, believe me 😉 Nice reaction
🤘🤘 love Band-Maid ,would be great if you added BAND-MAID / Play (Official Live Video) and BAND-MAID / onset (Official Live Video) to your list for a reaction, great stuff👌
The bass player uses a pick and hides it to slap and pulls it out to pick all the time
Band maid is a super live band nice reaction
NB they write and produce all their material. A real band.
I love that.
THE best Rock band on Earth.
Best Progressive Hard Rock band on the Planet! Bar none ... 😃
The basist MISA use both pick and fingers. She is holding the pick while finger picking and slapping.
There are 3 versions of the maids so don't miss Band Maiko. This is acoustic maids.

Down the pigeon hole u go , ur in for a long n great ride , po!
Weeeeeeeeeeeee. ❤️
Well that was certainly interesting
Indeed
+1 for LOVEBITES
+2 for Lovebites
Cool reaction Michael. A request though, could you level the audio a bit next time pls? Your voice level is half the song level - so if I turn it up to hear you I get blasted in my headphones when the music restarts....and you are starting and stopping a lot. Cheers 🙂
It’s usually better….I was doing something else and forgot to put it back. Sorry
It's time to react

Appreciate the skills and talent and considering they are playing live to a very responsive audience and have obvious appeal, they are not really what I choose to listen to these days in my decrepitude. Each to their own always.
Rock on you YOuthful, energetic, gorgeous gals!😮😅
Maybe I’ll talk myself into it lol❤
That’s the spirit yo!! ❤️
YO!

Dude … Misa the bass player is switching between slapping and picking by tucking the pick temporarily and flipping it back to pick. She’s known for it. “pick flip”
