You've done it again. Buying another now very rare base model that I am absolutely in awe of. We had a 106 in the family. Back in the late-'90s, my mum had a bright red Peugeot 106 1.5 XND 'Graduate' model, M862LKG. It was a true gem, it drove like a much bigger car than it looked. And she put 110,000 miles on it over its first 4 years and nothing at all gave any problems. Great, solid little cars, good fun.

That blue carpet is to die for! 🤩
Those aftermarket mats will keep it out of harm’s way. 😜
An excellent and fun start to your Peugeot 106 adventure, Mr. Hudson! 🙌

I love the little jobs that make a big difference. Looking forward to the next episode. Thank you

Great to see this one close up and in detail. You got lots of jobs and niggles done though for a first kick at the cat. That drip is quite rapid and concerning. Oh well, more surprises to come. Ding, Ding - Round Two soon I hope when you get time. So glad you took the plunge and bought it.

So glad you kept this on the fleet! Solid mot history & great mileage for its year. Check the front inner wings, floor rails & all the boot floor & surrounding area as that's where they typically go. The rear torsion bar axle arrangement should
be okay given the mileage & the exhaust rattle could be failure of the inner baffles in the back box. The front cabin leakage is often attributed to the channel section below the windscreen or occasionally the lower windscreen seal. Happy motoring in your grand little 106! 👍😉

Great job, Siôn. I think you can get excellent results with a spray can of the correct paint, I would even consider spraying the whole roof.

Got the same car! 1992 K-reg XN but with a petrol engine and in Black paintwork! Same issue with paint on roof but rest of car good. Top of dash faded and no product i have tried will revive it. Same seats which i think are very rare now. Mine are perfect! Put covers on and keep it out of the sun!! Never had any big issues with it, but only 112,000 thousand miles done. It's a Sunday driver now as i have a current Suzuki to use daily. Good luck with it! I will look forward to updates.

If you want to change that comedy instrument binnacle, with the world's largest fuel gauge, it's very easy, as Peugeot used a common wiring loom for all trim levels. Keep an eye on the boot floor where it meets the wheel tubs. That's a serious rust spot. You can sometimes see it going behind the rear shocks in the rear arches.

The accelerator was metal. My mum had a late mark one N reg special edition Escapade in silver which I drove a fair bit after passing my test in 2000. A really fun, responsive car with a lovely gear change. It was the first car we had with luxuries such as remote central locking. It was the era of Peugeot's really fun special editions with nice logos which even continued onto the car mats. I wish I'd bought it off her!

And funnily enough despite being well looked after the paint was starting to craze on the bonnet after 8 years!

I spent many miles and hours as a passenger commuting with a work colleague car sharing in his 106 Diesel, although one of the later ones. It cruised fine on the motorway and bombed along on the country lanes. Looks a solid car shame about the battered paintwork and hope the engine is OK.

Love watching your videos Sion, your not afraid to get stuck in and give it a go whereas I feel I would be a frank Spencer and make things much worse, you found a little gem there my uncle used to have one identical in red, I can still hear the loud diesel Knock if it starting and that was in 1993 lol.. they really are bulletproof and the blue carpet reminds me of an xsi I once had, keep up the fettling and look forward to more updates!! Enjoy the jungle massive music 😂

I think that on the first generation Peugeot 106 the accelerator pedal does not have a rubber cover, you can see this in a complete test of a basic 1st generation petrol version on the youtube channel Authentiquesautos in French, it is a 100% original version with nothing modified

Nice video. My first car was a 106 XN Graduate 1.1 in this colour with this interior. It cost me £200 in 2005 with 2 months MOT. The sunroof leaked, due to my size, my head always rubbed the glass, and the heater matrix would give my left foot a bath. But, it had only done 73k and was a great car for my first car. I miss it.
My second car was registered around the same time as this. A 306 1.6 with the reg K423 VVH, very similar to your reg.
Oh. The cig lighter goes in that larger blanking plate in the dash. 👍

@13:08 I use an old 6-inch machine polishing pad as a spacer to stop the jack making its mark on the car's underside there.

Loads of these in that sort of condition wobbling around parts of the near continent where they are less precious about their cars - this would be transport - low cost pure and simple and a step up from a donkey. No harm in that though.

A common reason for leaks might be from the drainage pipe for the sunroof being blocked with debris

    • @MorselsAndMotors
      @MorselsAndMotors  Місяць тому +1

Normally I would absolutely think this too, but these pop up sunroofs don’t have drainage channels!

One of the best cars I've owned was a new Mk 1 106 Escapde 1,5 Diesel in 1995 until some sod in a Renault 5 ran into me and totalled it. The insurance replaced the car with a Mk 2 XND 1.5, nothing but trouble with that car. The Mk1 though, brilliant.🙂👍

Great stuff! Love the start up, such a reassuring sounding little engine, it'll take you anywhere. How did the wheels come out after using the Bilt Hamber (presumably Hydrate 80)? I used it on my Beetle steelies recently and found it very difficult to sand away the brush marks left by painting it on! Or did you sensibly spray it on?!
