Imagine if Tolfdir spoke to us like this instead of just constantly telling us about how confused he is or how he has no idea what's happening/what to do
Imagine if characters in the game actually spoke about the well known lore of their world, instead of everyone being surprised when confronted with common facts. Like the dragons. The dragons were not a legend. They were a well established fact. There are books describing them and their powers, they were alive during the age of Talos, there's a fucking DRAGON SKULL OVER JARL BALGRUUF'S THRONE!
@@oliverholm3973 You do realize that the exact same thing is happening in real life don't you? How many of our ancient texts are passed off as myth or attributed to the lack of understanding of the writers simply because we don't see the same things happening in this day and age. It's easier to dismiss something as nonsense when you've never experienced it for yourself, and especially so if that something is scary or uncomfortable.
My High Elf once wandered into a bandit encampment and kept casting charm and fury at all her foes and they all, honestly, started tearfully begging her to stop manipulating them. Only now do I realize that was probably *the most* High Elf thing she's ever done.
Few people realize this, but illusion doesn't just change perception of reality, it can also change fundamental memories, which to me is even more horrifying. It can make you think horses are unstoppable man-eaters, or your family never loved you, or that the air is toxic. But not only that, Illusion can also be used to change minds for the better as well, including your own. It can make you a more confident person, or turn a bully into a lover, or that you're high as balls. All without altering a single sense. Even knowledge of actual facts can be attained with Illusion. Seeing your surroundings in total darkness and tracking with clairvoyance do grant you REAL and true knowledge after all. It may be possible to use illusion to grant yourself masterful skill and knowledge in any Skill Tree. The potential for knowledge and memory manipulation is truly staggering.
There is pretty much no limit to what a master Illusion Mage can do. Steal and Elder Scroll from the most difficult to-reach area of a dungeon, lined with the most intense security known to Mundus? No problem. Oh, the Aldmeri Dominion is attacking again? Not anymore. Bitch we need more good Illusion Mages in the world.
There's a good example of what a master illusionist can do in ESO: Greymoor expansion, where it makes the guy affected by the spell and everyone around him think he is a bottle of mead
Knowing the fact that vampires have an affinity for illusion is terrifying. An immortal puppeteer. Can you imagine if Sybille Stentor the vampire in Solitude was a master illusionist?
Man, I feel like they missed an opportunity to make illusion a really weird way to do combat in skyrim after watching this video. Imagine just walking right into a bandit camp undetected, strolling in casually. And instead of clearing it by swinging a sword, you just stood around and listened for a bit. You find out that the leader of the bandits has some kind of temper, and after some snooping in his belongings find out he has a dead kid. You then make his second in command invisible to him, but instead place the image of his dead kid there taunting him. "You should've saved me, it's your fault." till he snaps and swings at it, starting a fatal brawl between the bandits. The leader, being the leader for a reason, wins. You then use the illusion to convince him to finish the last remaining bandit, himself, by having the illusion of his son saying it's okay to join him.
Njorunn Fjölvarr // You just opened my mind. As a rpg, I think this type of mechanic would work really well.. Especially since it’s also open world. Technically, I guess the Calm & Fury spell kinda does that lol. Super basic though & doesn’t have the same kind of umph.
While you can't get the specifics, all but the suicide is possible gameplay wise. A jacked up Fury spell will get the attack going (Mass hysteria for a master Illusionist will cause an all out melee) and invisibility will keep the mage from harm's way. Afterwards, anyone left standing could probably be killed by a flick to the nose in the best case, a fireball in the worst. Bonus points for summoning a Daedra to claim their soul for the sins they committed against their comrades!
The lore hints that this is exactly how illusion can be used. That real illusionists can make you think, feel, and percieve whatever they want. You are just using the more combat oriented spells, I guess. Takes a bit more preparation and subtlety to drive someone to the depths of despair and know exactly what they can do about it.
@@jacobfreeman5444 too bad the game doesn't adapt that kind of complex yet very interesting magic / combat mechanic. One sentence to sum it up *I wish magic felt like **_magic_** in this game*
I feel like there should be a Disguise spell in Illusion. You cast it, and it clothes you in an outfit similar to one that the nearest person is wearing. This way, you can just walk into a bandit camp, cast the spell before anyone sees you, and just walk through, pretending to be one of them. I hope that's a spell in the next Elder Scrolls game. There could also be a spell that makes "copies" of people. Imagine how an NPC would react to that. Distraction spells, darkness and light spells, the list goes on. I even think one of the Master Illusion spells could be one where you summon a copy of yourself to help you fight. That would be badass.
QorinHalfhand. Now if Bethesda goes all out with elder scrolls 6 in terms of role playing and giving us the options of our actions having consequences I might just try that.
@@AmeerolisaRa-cw3qg Have you ever hearr of the lead writer of BGS' motto? He calls it K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid), and Todd the Godd likes it too
@@AmeerolisaRa-cw3qg they wont do that, a strong, committed, and passionate imagination is a requirement for elder scrolls games. Should a necromancer be able to become a champion of meridia? Absolutely not, yet its totally up to the player. Its a game with no consequences at all, only so many rewards that 99% of them are relative trash by the time you get around to them. Personally I would love it if 6 had consequences and requirements as a result so what you do has weight. For instance one cannot become a well renowned assassin in the dark brotherhood and ever be seen publicly with top officials without expecting a fight at the very least... that is unless they are good liars, disguised, illusionist, and/or kept their identity a secret as an assassin. However there should seldom be loops holes when it comes to god in skyrim. You do something a god hates then they should likely know and sooner smite you then let alone speak to you.
@@Leon_the_wildcat When they take a bunch of events and use it to make unfounded assumptions that is called myth, not history. While nowhere near 100% of history is undisputable, for the most part historians try everything they can to make sure their claims are backed up by some sort of evidence or logic derived from the knowns. So its not enough to say "there is an explanation". Why do the historians of the elder scrolls universe think that all these major events occurred cause of one extremely busy, impossibly talented, and walking contradiction of an individual that would put the mad prince to shame? Fact is that they went for quantity rather then quality. They put in hours upon hours of totally forgettable content instead of perfecting the parts that matter. They can come up with just about any answers that suit them but that doesn't mean the answer is automatically good enough to excuse the garbage portions of the game in question. In fact I consider it a bad thing that they give excuses and answers like these. It means its unlikely they will improve their games cause they wont even admit or perhaps even recognize the flaws. While you or maybe even the majority of fans might be satisfied, I cant be. My enjoyment of a game hinges on at least a tiny bit of logical consistency in the story and interactions.
Theres a theory that the reason why Jagar Tharn imprisoned Uriel was to delay the oblivion crisis, not to take the throne. I mean come on, he's one hell of a mage. I would think a guy that op would have no interest in becoming an emperor, especially when he's already in such high rank of an Imperial Battlemage. Its not surprising if Uriel actually told Tharn about his strange dream (or Tharn somehow found out Uriel's death is going to cause the oblivion crisis by himself) , but then Tharn recklessly "secured" the emperor in another dimension and used his illusion to become Uriel and rule tamriel for some time until he can find solution for the going to happen oblivion crisis. Yes I'm aware that Oblivion was made decades after Arena so this theory is technically not the case. But still, it gives Tharn an actual good motive than just that cliche plain "evil and selfish" dude.
The problem with that theory is if I remember correctly Tharn was making deals with Daedra left right and center. He allowed Dagon to invade the Battlespire, and he allowed many Daedra into Mundus to serve as his minions.
I remember back in 2011 when I was doing illusion levelling on my mage and this was what i used, i saw online relatively recently that muffle is better but i just use courage cause its satisfying for some reason hahah
@@gottabeinspiring but the conflicting thing about that is some dremora have wills of their own and dremora serve dagon but some also serve molag bal even though they are dagons creation
Yes, spells like courage, frenzy, calm, and fear are weak and only are good until about level 50, then they are really weak and useless unless you use higher level spell invisibility
If it was such a simple problem as being stuck in an illusion spell of their own making, the dwemer would find a way to break it. They've tricked gods previously thought omniscient and devised a way to read the Elder Scrolls without a hint of the consequences usually associated with doing so. Even if they haven't just ceased to exist, it's unlikely they're still on mundus.
Screaming Cactus the illusion would make them believe that they aren’t stuck in some illusion, though. They would be working with false information, and trying solutions that would never work because what they perceive as being a problem isn’t even real.
!!! Mind Blowing fact !!! : actually the dwemer cast a massive invisibility spell using Numidian as a conduit to increase the spells duration to 10000 years, when they come out of this illusion spell they will have battle tanks and battleships, and the rest of Tamriel will still use the bow !
While agree that the school of Alteration is sorely underrated, I daresay Illusion is moreso. Not my favorite. But the practical and esoteric applications are immense.
For all its power, Illusion is the only school dependent on other schools. Illusion can clean out a fortress of enemies except for that one who stands tall when the last two fight. Illusion can't kill that last enemy. It requires another school (usually Destruction) to finish the job. However a bow or blade works too.
And he's just this quiet little hermit in the middle of nowhere in a shack hunched over tomes and he subtly nods you in the directions of Daedric Quests, and the only way to actually get him talking is to bring him a Daedric Artifact and he'll give you some sweet lore on it and the respective Prince :D
@@spikymarshmallow7611 that would be a great idea to find the daedric quests early. And he could even tell about what happened at the college during the time between Skyrim and TES6
It may bother you that no one ever uses illusion on you the player. Until you remember when you committed a crime and the guards still seemed hostile even when you sheath your weapon. Maybe someone used fury on you and you just had no idea.
I wish that that could actually happen. Like you could be hit with Fury and literally everyone would look like an enemy so you don't know who to attack unless you remember who WAS who before the spell. (Good luck with followers who rush into the fray XD) Calm could force you to sheathe your weapons for a set amount of time, and make it so you can't activate hostile abilities Fear could force you into a running sequence that if you get hit you ragdoll or something...I don't know. Of course Illusion Mages would be really rare and only getting more common at higher levels as bosses, but it would be really fun to see an enemy that can actually toy with you like that. And now that I think about it (with the Edit) this would make Wards really helpful, because Wards stop Illusion Spells.
I mean. Everything has weaker forms. Theres 2 mages mentioned at one point that use destruction to change temperatures of drinks. All magicks of TES are both benelovent and malificent dependant on the user. I wouldnt be surprised if there was a conjure knife and fork spell by some bored conjurer. All magic really depends on the user. Magic is one of the most interesting things lore wise and fun lore wise.
Oh no... Knowing that conjured weapons are actually unlucky dremora that take that shape in Mundus, the Conjure fork&knife would be sooo insulting XD As for the "toy", well... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@DravenCanter Actually... nope. Conjuring a dremora powerful enough to keep their shape in Mundus needs more magika, And if you are talking about the toy conjuration... well, if you have specific tastes, you can have more than just ye olde dremora peen x)
invisibility makes more sense but its still kinda weird. I dont understand how an illusion spell could be cast on yourself and affect everybody else. Illusion is the school of mental manipulation, if you were to cast a spell to make someone believe the mead theyre drinking is a soda, you arent changing any material properties of the mead itself, just how the funny nord perceives it. If another person comes and tries the mead, unless the spell was also cast on them, they would taste mead, not soda. How does this work for invisibility? You cast a spell... on yourself... that affects how everyone perceives you, despite never interacting with said persons upon casting the spell. Is it like a broadcasting thing? Do you turn yourself into an illusion emitter? Where everyone who sees you or is within a certain radius of you is affected by the spell? That would make sense seeing how difficult invisibility spells are to perform.
I have schizoaffective disorder. I basically lose touch with reality on a monthly basis. I tried acid once , it was basically just an episode that was stretched out and new types of hallucinations took place. If I lived in that universe I could probably master illusions quite easily given my pention for manipulating myself to deal with the ever shifting reality around me. Also...it be amazing to use magic instead of pills and pot just to feel "normal".
So much possible ways of unique playstyle, invisible assassin, sneaky thief uses mayhem to escape, powerful stormcloak/imperial leader that inspires his troops with courage spell to attack, and so much more.
Real Talk. A lot of people say Illusion sucks, but honestly it's a fun and powerful school. During my Archmage run on Legendary, I actually went with Illusion first. Using Fury spells to have other people kill each other to even the odds, or even using Calm to pacify certain enemies is really useful. There's times I used Calm or Pacify on people just to go get certain items without fighting. Now, let's say I'm an assassin, and one person catches me. I can pacify them, the go right behind them and slit there throat. Or even use Invisibility to sneak up on people and kill them. I find it a very under-rated school, but I use it a lot because of it's potential. These spells have also saved my life in many different situations as well.
My takeaway from this is that "Muffle" shouldn't be an illusion spell, but an alteration spell. Muffle is cast on the self to silence any noises the user is making, not directly onto others to obfuscate their hearing.
same with chameleon and invisibility. Chameleon moreso actually, because it projects whatevers behind you on your body to blend in, which isnt the same as casting a spell to make someone not notice you
There is also that one thing where an illusionist creates then focuses light on a single point, burning people to death, while casting another illusion over that, making everyone think that it was a simple fire bolt.
I'm loving these magic videos! I've always been interested in the magic of TES, and these are really scratching an itch that Skyrim never could, and that's saying something considering that this is a video and not a game.
Ah but it's more fun blasting someone with destruction magic especially the lightning power screaming power unlimited power! Or saying puns wille useing ice or fire or both at the same time
I love illusion but hate how they handicap it. The mind effecting spells should be able to effect higher level enemies, basically it becomes invisibility and muffle in late game. Illusion still kicks ass but it could have been so much fuller as well as so much more like the legendary accounts of illusion.
I'd love a strategy game that really focuses on the larger battles and warfare of the elder scrolls universe. I'd love to see how mages and their magic are utilized in full on war.
Nice profile pic its khanorac(spelled that wrong but I don't know how to spell it) after you get all of the dragon masks in the vanilla game, well all of the other ones
“If one individual’s perception of reality is different to another’s chaos will inevitably ensue and at that point does it matter what the true reality is? Reality is only relevant in that it is perceived by the sentient beings experiencing it.” This goes into postmodernism. Among the many problems with postmodernism one is that all truths are relative. All is subjective and therefore everything is real if someone experiences it. A person who imagines ghosts would mean ghosts are real because that one person is experiencing it. The thing with illusion magic is that when you make yourself invisible does that mean you are not there because you cannot be seen? Of course not, illusion magic does not change reality but rather perceived reality. You are still there but no one else can see you because you are warping light around you.
"As I provoke the bandit with my bravado and crude dulgences of his mother, he charges with rage and slips through the cracks of a phantasmal bridge I had placed in his mind as I stood across the chasm from him. All the way down he convinced himself that a rush of wind set him off course."
I know you guys make these partially for profit and all, but we can tell you really love what you do. Thank you for your videos Fudgemuppet!!❤️ thanks for never letting quantity get in the way of quality.
We need a TES game that purely focuses on spells, spell crafting, complex spell interactions, spell vs environmental interactions. No bullshit trying to balance a sword vs a mother trucking fireball or meteor storm. You can pick up a sword if you want, and some magic will revolve around swords and buffs but even if choosing sword you're still a mage. In depth fully fleshed out schools of magic that you're expected to pursue just one or three of, with heavy investment and slow progression with lots in between levels 1 and 100. By level 100 you should feel like a god of that school. New Game + mode that lets you keep your past skills, including new dialogue and some new threats revolving around that fact, acknowledging that you've got this power already. Perhaps you cannot reach Level 100 without starting a New Game +, starting whatever sequence or quest finishes off the game into a NG+ is tied to reaching Level 100 in a School of Magic. Alteration NG+ / Level 100 can let you choose some way you alter the game with. Such as turning Cyrodil back into a jungle, turning it into a desert, or turning it into a tundra.
Mastering Illusion can alter overall NPC states in the NG+ in various ways; Pacify, all NPCs are nonhostile and cooperative. Some quests related to overt violence are changed with new dialogue reflecting this. Enrage, all NPCs are overtly hostile with open conflict. A random bandit might suddenly lash out at their band, civilians on the street might randomly go on a killing spree, tensions are higher and peaceful quests now have violent goals instead. Rally, all NPCs are courageous and you can find quest givers on the route to or at the destination where they would have sent you, attempting to do it themselves and you can help them there. Mastering Destruction can let you select a whole region of the map, and lay waste to it for NG+. Storm, Frost, Fire. In each, the landscape itself is altered. With Storm, the whole region is wracked with a permanent storm and high winds, random lightning blasts doing damage in a small aoe randomly targeting a creature on say a 10% chance, with a few seconds of delay between targeting and striking. Targeting rate and delay are changed if wearing metal armor. Slowed by furs. With frost, the whole area is bonechillingly cold causing damage over time unless near a fire, with high winds that can put unprotected or nonmagical fires out, and slow you when moving against them, with high wind bursts that can occasionally push you in a direction towards cliffs and such. Fire incinerates all plantlife leaving a charred wasteland with rivers of lava that deal damage the closer you are to them and can set your clothes on fire, metal armor heats up to cause more damage over time unless you step into an area of a cold spell. Mastering Restoration can have huge impacts: Blight; All plantlife becomes sickly, edibles don't restore HP, NPC's are all weakened with reduced health and damage output. Blessed; All plantlife becomes more abundant and luscious, restores more health, all NPC's are invigorated with more health and damage dealt, and all characters including you passively heal over time. Incarnate: Death prevented, all characters become essential. (with alterations to how essential works to introduce Submission, so you can get someone to stop fighting through speech or blade so they aren't just attacking you for eternity until you run away). This alters quests revolving around NPCs that died, and violent quests can instead end with you capturing them. As a master of restoration, you can take away any of these effects from targets if you wish. Mastering Conjuration could introduce new factions to the game world: The Undying, a faction of undead. The Banished, a faction of daedra. And The Unbroken, a faction of primordial creatures such as spriggans, and elementals. The new faction will claim locations around the map, have radiant NPCs, add a unique new location per faction (You only get 1 per playthrough). You can join the faction if you want, and take control of it, make it a neutral force, or make it a hostile force. New quests involving the faction will be added to the game, both vs it and as it. Mastering Enchanting lets you create a unique weapon entirely of your custom design selecting from model pieces to arrange into a custom weapon model, selecting animation sources, and customizing an enchantment on it. You can then find it in your NG+ playthrough. When you achieve NG+, you can be presented with a screen showing past masteries and can choose to redo a past mastery effect or just get rid of it for your next playthrough. Edit: On top of this, I would have a Daedric Artifact (That involves actual plot, story, effort, and a bit of luck to obtain. May even be randomized per run) that grants you 1 wish that carries over into NG+. Scepter: - Power - You gain max levels of 1 school of magic and all spells of that school plus one or more unique spells of that school unobtainable normally. Perhaps this unlocks Spellcrafting at-will, and higher limits on the magnitude of crafted spells. Crown: - Wealth - You become king/queen of a country of choice. Skyrim/Cyrodil/ect, unless it takes place only in one. Then if it were Skyrim for example you'd be high king of all Skyrim. This comes with new quests of its own, and in NG+ you'll start there at the castle as king with relevant adjustments to the main quest. Chalice: - Immortality - You become immortal. You cannot be killed. There would still be a number of threats that you could face such as imprisonment, corruption, ect. From now on, a snap shot is taken of your character at the end of every NG+ run, and that becomes an NPC somewhere in the world that will come find you in the endgame and cause radiant problems relevant to their school. A conjuration based character might be raising an army and taking locations. A destruction based character might be hunting you down or destroying buildings, you have to figure out a way to deal with them in spite of their immortality, lucky you're immortal still yourself, but it knows that too and is looking for ways to deal with you in turn. An illusionist character could be quite a threat, being invisible, altering your perceptions in cool sequences. Ect. Because wishes carry over, and have static effects, you can only get each wish once but can have all 3 over 3 different NG+'s where you found that artifact all over again, being randomly placed. Though this is in line with the masteries each getting only 1 of their possible effects per playthrough / across each NG+ as you can't raise the skill to 100 again, you already did it, it's there. Though you can adjust the effects when starting a new NG+ run. The replay value of this game would be incredible. You might even say the game is only just beginning when you do your first New Game + Once you master all schools of magic, you might get one last NG+ run where you become a god/dess. It unlocks full dev kit tools that are implemented as though they were spells with their own animations and effects. Spawning NPCs and monsters with animations where they either drop from the sky, raise from the ground, charge out of portals, or so on, you might choose your own visual to your liking. Teleport anywhere on the map just by hovering over a spot on the map and clicking, instead of placing a waypoint you click "Teleport", and you'd teleport there with the same visual as spawning a creature/npc. Spawn items the same way. Activate God Mode, No Clip mode, Kill and Kill All commands, resurrect and resurrect all commands. Potentially even a full in-game level editor where you can rearrange the map itself, deleting, adding, and moving things, replacing textures, editing NPC's as though using the character creator, setting NPC affinity/relationship levels, changing faction allegiances not just of yourself but of anyone to alter hostilities. Rewind time to undo things or replay quests, even all the way to the beginning, do any Mastery effect at will, changing them at your leisure and even stacking effects where able.
One of my favorite play throughs was as a succubus using only illusion magic. It's kind of neat to casually go through the world doing whatever you want without a fuss. Traps are still annoying though.
That first example, of the mage 'freezing' the vampire, reminds me of the Apple of Eden in Assassins Creed and how it works. Also that illusionist mage, who lets herself be downplayed the whole time in the book, reveals here, she is crazy strong, since you need at least the level 90 "master of the mind" trait to use illusion spells on undead, including vampires. (She does a few other cool tricks in the book too I encourage you all to read it.)
I've always been surprised that this type of magic isn't outlawed in elder scrolls. It is arguably worse than necromancy because it has the ability to very easily take away that which makes you, you. I imagine facing an illusionist is pretty much like being psychologically tortured by someone who has full control of your thoughts and senses!
This was dope...I'm now looking back at some of other videos like this one....Awesome!...Now I'm making a build based on illusion now!!...Keep up the good work!
Why do you think there are more powerful versions of the spell to effect higher levels? Its possible but there is still spells that can get through more powerful minds
The only true immunity comes from the blessings of Sheogorath. His wisdom frees us from the bindings lesser mortals call "reality" and shows us the true nature of the world: It is ALL an illusion!
or maybe its more complicated; it makes whoever sees you a) completely disregard you/not perceive you as a threat and b) continually preventing them from forming memories with you in them as they look at you
Oh dude. please consider doing a series reading some of the most popular books and scrolls from ES, if you haven't done that already. You could ask the viewers to post what books they would like to hear you read, and do a poll, or whatever.

I have a bad feeling they’re going to remove the magic schools entirely for ES6. They’ll probably take out all the skills and replace them with broad categories in order to “streamline” the game.

Hey fudgemuppet I'm a huge fan and have a theory I'd really like you to look into. I believe aldmeris was a real place, a floating island or piece of mundus above tamriel. I think all the elves were holding onto their divinity during the dawn, while the wandering elenfoy(sp?) Committed to mundus. I believe that as aldmeris was above tamriel moving in a southwestern direction, the Falmer and dwemer "fell off". The falmer were extremely devout, so much that I believed they "followed" the example of the divines who committed to mundus, and committed themselves, breaking off of aldmeris early, landing in skyrim with their advanced magics. The dwemer I believe did the exact opposite. They gave the gods no glory, and instead believed in their own abilities. This disregard for the etheral that they were still apart of wind up "expelling" them from aldmeris. It is likely the dwemers disregard had them leave aldmeris before the falmers faith did the same to them, which is why the dwemer are found farther to the east in morrorwind. Aldmeris starts in the northeast and moves southwest until eventually "falling/combining" into/with mundus completely. I am a huge lore fan and I think this to be an extremely valid theory, however I do not have the resources to research it like you do. If you could explore my theory I would love to see what you come up with, this has been on my mind a long time. Thanks in advance ! Great lore videos by the way! Plz look into the Aldmeris theory. Thanks again
This is not about real things happening, llusions are mind tricks. Your mental status determine your emotions and thus your actions. If you can controll the people's emotions you can controll their actions, this is how propaganda and social engineering works.
I remember my orcish werewolf illusionist archer heavy armor stealth build. Good times. Go berserk and turn into a wolf for a bonus as well as having my perk setup and rings for werewolves allowing me to stay transformed for entire dungeons. If I felt like it I could stealth through dungeons and either backstab them or arch them out. Then if all else fails I can turn invisible, cast frenzy to make them fight , calm to take out the victor of their battle, or fear to run them into their own traps or other enemies all for 0 cost due to my armor buffing illusion. Also did the restoration potion loop to make all of my armor buff different magic types and later mastered alteration to get stone flesh which also can transfer into the werewolf transformation alongside of berserk.mastered conjuration to get bound bow and a permanent thrall which was usually the teleporting mage you fight in mages guild or the orc from when you first arrive on solstheim because of the bodyguard that he has whom will still follow him as a thrall which effectively made my team just massive since I kept barbas and had a riekling which would bring scouts frequently . He was such an op character that the game seriously felt like it was on auto play even on legendary. Never even did the restoration loop on a weapon only did it to have armor and accessories where each magic class would cost 0 to use
It’s why I love playing as illusion-heavy nightblades. Why get my blade bloody when I can set back with some mead and watch the bandits rip each other apart and thieving is so much easier with invisibility and muffled
My illusion assassin character named Alea of the Sharingan. and she could use the Tsukuyomi which paralyze a target for 120 seconds. so from my point of view paralyze spells don't convince the target they can't move, instead, it traps their mind is a way that they are given an imaginary body and every time they attempt to move their real body they move their imaginary one instead. Basically separating the brain from the motor functions for a time and moving the signals from the brain to the body to a vessel that is all be useless. Yeah, but illusion magic is pretty overpowered to the point where I had to purposefully avoid using it to have the game remain a challenge. and I had mods on so I died in 1 or 2 hits. I could go without getting hit for so long I forgot I had them on.
Illusion was always my favorite school. In skyrim I always like to Imagine that, through vampirism and the school of Illusion, the Last Dragonborn rules over Tamriel from the shadows, forever.
I was never able to consolidate being both dragonborn and a vampire when playing more evil characters (despite preferring good guys most of the time) Thus If i wanna play a vamp I use alternate start
this is exactly what it is. - destruction is using alteration to create and throw harmful matter - restoration is using alteration to mend wounds and regulate organ functions, etc - illusion is alteration of chemicals and electrical signals in a person's mind/nervous system - conjuration is a bit tricky since you dont actually create anything like you do with destruction, rather, you pull already-existing objects from oblivion into mundus. I suppose the only alteration you'd be doing here is the actual formation of the portals themselves, but i dont think its that simple. - mysticism is similar to conjuration: *Teleportation spells would be the bending of space and/or time (time manipulation is definitely alteration) using alteration to end up somewhere else in time/space by the end of the spell's process. * detection spells are a bit odd since theyre a mixture between traditional alteration and illusion, since, unless you believe illusion can give you previously unknown knowledge, then you would have no way of obtaining the info detection spells give you through the usage of illusion alone. It could also maybe make you temporarily incredibly intelligent/perceptive leading to you naturally approximating where the things you're detecting are located, this would be normal illusion in this case. Aside from this, it would seem mysticism is otherwise unique from General Alteration since alteration bends the fabric of creation/natural laws while mysticism is said to be the same but for magic itself, i.e. alteration of the force that is magic, which seems to refer to more abstract/surreal concepts rather than the very visceral, tangible domain of alteration magic (e.g. soul trapping). In this sense they are similar in that they are alterations and modifications of some field/fabric, with the only distinction being the fabric itself that is being altered. You could group it under a revised definition for the school of alteration. - thaumaturgy is probably the most obvious seeming extension of the school of alteration. Since many thaumaturgical spells could also be considered traditional alteration depending on who you ask. Apparently, the distinction lies in a very important detail in the domain of traditional alteration. Traditional alteration affects the structure and form of an object or force, while thaumaturgy modifies said object/force's _properties_, i.e. the laws of physics. This distinction dissolved later and thaumaturgy was absorbed into alteration under a new unified definition.
Thanks for the detailed reply, and of all the schools that seem the most ambiguous I would say that is Mysticism (my favorite from Morrowind). The only thing I can see that may be distinct to Mysticism is how the spells are derived from the user's self. Perhaps alteration bends the world to the caster, Mysticism bends the caster somehow to the world? That is the best stab I have at differentiating the two.
@@josiahpaulthompson yea that makes sense! Mysticism is definitely more abstract and conceptual than alteration, which falls in quite well with the "bending of magic itself" definition, since the source of magic power/potential is always heavily implied throughout the series to be intrinsically linked to the mind (intelligence and willpower determining arcane proficiency, and magicka as a stat being an analogue for mental fatigue or degree of concentration or something of the sort). Given that, the "bending yourself to the world", or, more accurately, "bending your _mind_ to the world" definition would definitely work.
Hopefully good/cool ideas incoming here, I've mentioned them before elsewhere but this summation should suffice... Is there no opposite to magicka? I know it is innate/inherent to things of Mundus, but I'm thinking of some other spell countering/shielding the mind. But barring that, maybe through using one's own illusion magics you could alter some number of things in reality around you, for example by creating a number of tiny wrinkles or shivers, etc. within your own perspective of reality .. and thus, no aggressive/offensive mage could account for such things and you would see through any ruse of another by virtue of a conflict in sense data! Because otherwise Logic, Order, or maybe even Basic Staunch Mortal Contemplation are the only ways to read through illusion. And so perhaps only with more Illusion magic could one deny another's powers. Maybe one could alter the perception of other's around them from recognising the true range, distance, form of one's own self, meaning that the casting of another mage's illusion spells would become useless.
This reminds me of the part in lord of souls (oh uh, spoiler alert) where Attrebus is magically forced into addiction to this euphoric spell cast on him by one of the emperor’s evil advisors. This would certainly fall into the illusion spell category and it’s effects were absolutely brutal, Attrebus’s humanity was stripped away from him for a significant period of time at the whim of a powerful mage.
Hey FudgeMuppet, do you think you could explain why a number of the jarls wear Illusion symbols on their clothes? I always thought it was strange, but I haven't seen anything addressing this anomaly. Thank you.
I wonder if it would be possible to set a proximity illusion spell, like rendering distance in a videogame or a Destruction Rune spell. Naturally it would need to have a permanent energy source, like a soul gem.
Illusion magic is the best. You are untouchable as a Master. Calm+Sneak+Dagger= Never fight fair again. Just walk up behind them, crouch down, and slit their throat; rinse repeat. It only gets more evil the further back in time you go.
It would be cold in es6 if illusion had like a spell that could change ur appearance to match that of people around u so it could be useful for sneaking around, working like fallout new Vegas outfit system
I love using fury. I can get people killed without having to do it myself, and if my sneak is perfect it won't even count as murder. It's just some misfortunate accident after all!
Personally I adore Illusion potentially only second to Restoration. It's interesting that the common desires for the application of illusion magic are those of ambition, violence, malevolence, and sadism when my most recent character has instead made use of the magic for more good or neutral purposes. People, animals, even automatons mark him for death in their minds only to be pacified, entering a world of momentary peace perhaps even bliss. By the time the magic has worn off their target has already vanished (sometimes literally with the help of invisibility). They may wonder if they had seen anyone at all with his specific brand of going like a ghost wherever he pleases. It is quite satisfying to avoid the vast majority of all bloodshed while still completing objectives and traveling the land.
The most potent assassination tool is a fury spell. Cast it on someone and the whole town bands together to kill them. Got caught? It's only 50 gold, unlike actually killing or harming them.
My pacifist Mara acolyte whose been using Illusion is going to have to have a serious crisis of conscience, now... Well, maybe not; he only uses Calm, but even that has some creepy implications since it is forcing someone to think the way he wants them to, even if for only a few minutes.
Let's not forget that a Dwemer tricked the Deadric Prince once. Perhaps they used their wit and illusion. If illusion can be done in Deadras, imagine the horrors in human.
The problem with Illusion magic is it can't finish the job. It can clear a whole stronghold of bad guys except for the one who makes the last kill. For all its power, it can't finish the job on its own.
or pull a Black Swan and make your enemy think they’re attacking you, when in reality they’re attacking themselves. Wish we had a spell like that in Elder Scrolls
Well, unless you actually need that... it’s not a big deal. For example: in most dungeons, there isn’t really a requirement to kill every enemy. Hell, if it’s the loot or a specific item you’re after, just calm everyone and walk through. Though, if you had a good sneak skill, you could hypothetically sneak up on an enemy, backstab them for massive damage but then calm them so they don’t attack back, then go hide and do it again. Simple.

You do realize that the exact same thing is happening in real life don't you? How many of our ancient texts are passed off as myth or attributed to the lack of understanding of the writers simply because we don't see the same things happening in this day and age. It's easier to dismiss something as nonsense when you've never experienced it for yourself, and especially so if that something is scary or uncomfortable.
My High Elf once wandered into a bandit encampment and kept casting charm and fury at all her foes and they all, honestly, started tearfully begging her to stop manipulating them. Only now do I realize that was probably *the most* High Elf thing she's ever done.
I did the same ,-; only difference is that I used a male High Elf character . Though the gender doesnt matter much.

@@SuperBladde Does he try to pull everyone's heads off and drink their juices? :O
if you forget something how would you know you forgot
One sentence to sum it up
*I wish magic felt like **_magic_** in this game*
I dont always eat spell tomes, but when I do they're tomes of illusion. They appear to taste better.

Fahri Nugraha
I like it.
That would be really good. He'd go from being seen as your typical "I want the throne" type villain to being somewhat selfless.

@@GECKman88 Nope, its the same Uriel believe. Arena takes place in the 3E actually.

What if Dwaemer miscast an illusion spell that makes everybody thought they are gone. But in reality they are still there?. Unable to do anything.
If it was such a simple problem as being stuck in an illusion spell of their own making, the dwemer would find a way to break it. Even if they haven't just ceased to exist, it's unlikely they're still on mundus.

A little Illusion Magic goes a long way in The Dark Brotherhood.
For all its power, Illusion is the only school dependent on other schools. Illusion can clean out a fortress of enemies except for that one who stands tall when the last two fight. Illusion can't kill that last enemy. It requires another school (usually Destruction) to finish the job. However a bow or blade works too.

Fear could force you into a running sequence that if you get hit you ragdoll or something...I don't know.

i dont get how chameleon is an illusion spell and not an alteration spell.
invisibility makes more sense but its still kinda weird. That would make sense seeing how difficult invisibility spells are to perform.

man, I love how credible you guys make this sound. I'm glad I subscribed.
Chameleon moreso actually, because it projects whatevers behind you on your body to blend in, which isnt the same as casting a spell to make someone not notice you
Illusion magic is the least appreciated of all magic schools. It really deserves more recognition
I'm glad you're talking about illusion, I had the argument with myself about this being a good contender for extremely powerful magic.

“If one individual’s perception of reality is different to another’s chaos will inevitably ensue and at that point does it matter what the true reality is? Reality is only relevant in that it is perceived by the sentient beings experiencing it.”
This goes into postmodernism.

You might even say the game is only just beginning when you do your first New Game +
Once you master all schools of magic, you might get one last NG+ run where you become a god/dess.
_Reality Can Be What Ever I Want_
This was dope...I'm now looking back at some of other videos like this one....Awesome!...Now I'm making a build based on illusion now!!...Keep up the good work!
if your mind is strong enough, could you be immune to illusion magic?
Why do you think there are more powerful versions of the spell to effect higher levels? Its possible but there is still spells that can get through more powerful minds
only if your an illusionist your self and good at it
The only true immunity comes from the blessings of Sheogorath. His wisdom frees us from the bindings lesser mortals call "reality" and shows us the true nature of the world: It is ALL an illusion!
@@fredhenry101 Indeed! I mean, look at CHIM, lmao.
This was one of the functions of the Willpower stat in the games before Oblivion
6:23 That's pretty much the face of my character, except a spiral tattoo on the cheek
You have the hands of an illusionist!
So when we cast invisibility, we're not actually invisible, we just scrub our image from the minds of people looking at us? Dope
yes
or maybe its more complicated; it makes whoever sees you
a) completely disregard you/not perceive you as a threat and
b) continually preventing them from forming memories with you in them as they look at you
Oh dude. please consider doing a series reading some of the most popular books and scrolls from ES, if you haven't done that already.
You could ask the viewers to post what books they would like to hear you read, and do a poll, or whatever.
1:02-*as nick cage*”oh really”? Oh look, ten guys who would one shot me over there? I’ll just make em kill each other while I chill over here invisible sipping some good wine then after? I’ll send clones of them to kill them AND when their friends show up I’ll have the clones of both the dead and living kill everyone!!!
That miraak art on the thumbnail is dope af
I have a bad feeling they’re going to remove the magic schools entirely for ES6. They’ll probably take out all the skills and replace them with broad categories in order to “streamline” the game.
3 skills:
Magic-zappy healy, collect all 5 spells
Fight-slash your foes with one of 2 weapon types(long sword & not-so-long sword)
Sneak-crouch and shoot arrows
I was kind of dissapointed with the illusion school. It's still my favourite but it's more of changing people's emotions than actual illusions.
This is not about real things happening, llusions are mind tricks. Your mental status determine your emotions and thus your actions. If you can controll the people's emotions you can controll their actions, this is how propaganda and social engineering works.
Just when I thought I was out, they pull'd me back
Fantastic video yall
Seems like somehow most people dont realize that paralyze was an Illusion school of magic in Oblivion.
Fuckin love this shit, tell me a bed time story Fudgemuppet.
Illusion was always my favorite school. In skyrim I always like to Imagine that, through vampirism and the school of Illusion, the Last Dragonborn rules over Tamriel from the shadows, forever.
I was never able to consolidate being both dragonborn and a vampire when playing more evil characters (despite preferring good guys most of the time)
Thus If i wanna play a vamp I use alternate start
Suddenly I feel like I haven't been utilizing my school of magic. I just use it to avoid needing to take showers...
I like to think of all the other schools of magic to be specialized subsets of alteration magic.
this is exactly what it is.
- destruction is using alteration to create and throw harmful matter
- restoration is using alteration to mend wounds and regulate organ functions, etc
- illusion is alteration of chemicals and electrical signals in a person's mind/nervous system
- conjuration is a bit tricky since you dont actually create anything like you do with destruction, rather, you pull already-existing objects from oblivion into mundus. I suppose the only alteration you'd be doing here is the actual formation of the portals themselves, but i dont think its that simple.
- mysticism is similar to conjuration:
*Teleportation spells would be the bending of space and/or time (time manipulation is definitely alteration) using alteration to end up somewhere else in time/space by the end of the spell's process.
My favorite schools of magic top list
1.Ilusion
2 Alternation
3. Alchemy
4.Enchanting
5.Restoration
6.Destruction
This reminds me of the part in lord of souls (oh uh, spoiler alert) where
Attrebus is magically forced into addiction to this euphoric spell cast on him by one of the emperor’s evil advisors.
Thank you.
You’re a wizard Harry
Despite the ‘negatives’ of illusion magic, it’s still one of my favorite schools of magic!
In my opinion illusion is the most underrated and powerful school of magic.
Illusion magic is just genjutsu lol
I used to shun using magic user until you guy opened my mind and now I spend hours wondering whether my next build will be a Mage or a Sword swinger
how can you have any fun in elder scrolls games without magic
Quiet casting I held Fus Ro Dah, yet even Alduin could not find me
2:43
Eating spell tomes?
No, I read them. To each their own, I suppose...
if only illusion magic was this cool in the game
I don't normally like videos, but I feel like something is changing my perception of reality...
The problem with Illusion magic is it can't finish the job. It can clear a whole stronghold of bad guys except for the one who makes the last kill. For all its power, it can't finish the job on its own.
Play with Requiem and it can. Illusion magic in that can quite literally make people die because they believe they are dead.
or pull a Black Swan and make your enemy think they’re attacking you, when in reality they’re attacking themselves.
Simple.
Just use fear so they run out into the wilderness and meet Mr. Bear.
lordelliott42 I don’t think they’ll leave a dungeon if they belong to it.

Illusion better be fun in ES6.
It's so boring in Skyrim.
That's one opinion. I honestly believe it's a really fun school to use. That, and an Illusionist is actually somewhat easy on Legendary.
Orum aquatic whatever turns u invisible activates night eye and waterbreathing
All magic in Skyrim is boring.
@@Ed-ealmighty That's not a vanilla spell. It's from a Creation Club mod, though a really cheap one
magic as a whole is boring in skyrim
I really enjoyed this. Thank you!
