So happy to find a Terence talk I’ve never heard before. He seemed particularly animated and feisty at times here. I’ve never heard a more brilliant wordsmith. His ability to riff and improvise over complex ideas and epic narratives was awe-inspiring. I love storytelling, and Terence is a constant source of inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

Just like in James Joyce's incredible books (Ulysses, Finnegan's Wake) ... Terence McKenna predicted the future. Hit the the nail right on the head. 😮😮
I became obsessed with TM in the eighties and got to hang out with him in the nineties. He described his Novelty Theory as a tool to tell the future. It has been my north stare for decades now, and I am rarely surprised by our exponential descent into Novelty. God, I miss him.

I wonder what he'd think and say about all that's happening, not just to us primates but to our increasingly intelligent A.I. machines, too. I think its also important for us innerstanding this information to also recognize that beyond our Ego there is a larger Ego of the human race thinking that the human race matters. Yes of course we should do our best to decondition the ignorant and take better care of our home, but its important to remember that if the human race does go extinct, its okay.
I feel like a touch of humility is lacking somewhere in here regarding religious experience. Are they all, along with this gentleman, not seeking the same destination? How is the belief in a sacred feminine and human capacity for transcendence through psychadelics not simply the supplanting of the judeo-christian YHWY (God the father) with a sprinkle of the self in place of God? I think it is a dangerous notion to act as sole control over one's own existence, and there are no shortcuts to enlightenment...only more twisted illusions and dillusions (my personal view).
I mean, most religions would answer no to your question. And from a purely intellectual perspective, they are all clearly not seeking the same destination. I think there's something to be said about the similarity of most reported "mystical experiences", but religious doctrines vary widely in their goals and their methods. Wouldn't you agree?
The destination only appears different from the viewpoint of paths themselves. When one reaches the peak of the mountain, all the various paths are revealed to lead to the same summit. Just as all the rivers reach the sea. The clouds of illusion are forever changing in the ever changeless sky of awareness. If you and I were being who we truly are, there would only be one of us. I love you!
