Man! I hate thieves 😞 I had my Mustang stolen back in 2004 and are whole mowing rig stolen in 2018! Your right if they want it bad enough, they will take it. Like you said you have to take several steps to make it as time consuming as possible to deter them 😉
Yes thieves suck. I agree. I had insurance so everything was covered but it was still a pain to deal with sorting it all out. So I just do as much as I can to deter them and have them go elsewhere. Thanks for watching
Good tips. I would also suggest disconnecting trailer and pulling forward a few feet so you can add a good coupler lock. Altor and Proven industries seem to make the best ones. The Altor one I have is lock pick and angle grinder resistant.
Great tips man! If thieves would dedicate their initiative to steal towards something beneficial, they would be rich! It's amazing what they are capable of. I worry daily about my things being taken away. I will have invested a large portion of the value of my equipment in security measures by the end of the year. Lol. The things I would do to these people if I could catch them all.
That sucks. Sorry to hear that, and I can say I know how you feel. Hopefully you had insurance. It feels so violating. I had trouble sleeping for a long time after as every little noise would wake me up and I would check to see if someone was messing with the trailer. It does get better though with time though. Ever since that day I no longer leave any equipment in the trailer overnight. Thanks for watching.
What I do to my boat and utility trailers, either in my driveway, or hitched up to my vehicle- is remove one or both wheels off the trailer, and keep the lugnuts in my possession. A friend of mine had his boat trailer stolen off his pickup, while locked up tight to his pickup,,at the boat landing, while he was out fishing. I kept telling him to take the extra 10 - 15 minutes in removing one of his trailer wheels, and take the tire/wheel assembly with him in his boat. Welp, he didn't do it, and came back to shore missing his trailer. Yes, it might be an extreme way to secure your trailer, but anything you can do to divert or really slow down their escape plan, is worth the extra minutes of your life to keep what you worked so hard for.
That would help but taking wheels on and off every morning and evening before and after work would get old really quick. I put two of the wheel boot locks on it now. One on each wheel everyday.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess That's a great idea, but there are a lot of trailer owner's who don't have the extra bucks to buy the units you have. My suggestion might get old, but a trailer and it's owner can grow old together.
I saw two things right off hand,, your bolt on coupler is a very big issue,, The bolts need to be welded or weld the coupler to the trailer. Just know you can go to Harbor freight and buy one of those couplers for about 20.00 bucks or so, and just replace it. you also need to secure your chains!! they can wrap your chains around their bumper to just take your trailer. Just a couple ideas..
I'm surprised that they were so bold and with determination as seen on the security camera. They stole a custom high profile trailer so they must've had a prearranged buyer because they could've peddle that unit openly.
I think they may have just wanted all the tools. When the police saw them and started to persue them, they eventually abandoned the truck and trailer and ran on foot but all the tools were already gone. So the police may have intercepted them on their way to dump the trailer somewhere. Plus they did a lot of damage to the side ramp door with pry bars trying to get it open. A whole new door had to be made to replace the original. Thanks for watching.
Great tips, thieves are everywhere and always lurking to see what they can steel next, it's sad you went through this, but is that the trailer that was stolen or did you have to buy another one, hopefully the thieves were caught
Just wondering why your camera didn't notify you that someone was in your yard. ? Mine do. I had a utility trailer stolen out of my back yard in the rain in the early morning hours. It was chained to a telephone pole. I had a security camera that I accidently erased the footage(long story). It was my own fault for not securing my trailer properly. I've since learned to do a better job at securing my property and my new trailer from watching videos like yours. Thanks for taking the time to share.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Ring cameras have a zone feature that allows you to zone in on exactly what and where you want to get a notification. Probably could of saved that trailer. Oh well, at least it was insured.
Another thing you could do is hide a Milwaukee tools TICK on the trailer (battery last a year). If you report it stolen/lost, anyone with Milwaukee One Key app that comes within range of the TICK, it will send you a notification that it's been found with GPS location.
Yes that’s a good tip. I thought about doing that with a traker device but not enough people use them to make the app effective. Same thing might be the case with the Milwaukee tick as I assume it’s a Bluetooth device that relies on other people with the app installed. What might be better is the new apple air tags. Battery life is a year and it relies on other iOS devices that it pings which there are literally millions of around the planet. Thanks for watching.
I’ve a couple of videos already. Here is a link to a detailed trailer tour video I did complete with measurements and specs, showing all the features including the dump working. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/tl5UztclCaI/v-deo.html
It looks like your trailer jack lock can be easily defeated by loosening the bolts on the jack mount and sliding the jack forward to slip the lock off of the pin.
Correct. If a thief wants something they will take it regardless of what you do. The point is to slow them down or make it not worth the extra effort as their are other trailers around that would be much easier to steal. Thanks for watching.
Lock everything, bloody thieves. I've had it happen with a scooter, my dad said to put a lock around wheels, I thought the pin locks would do. Now my boat and trailer would need a grinder to take....I hope at least
Next time get a tandem axle trailer.. they won't be able to swing the tongue with just muscle. And the keyed lug makes absolutely no difference. They use a cheap socket that is designed to remove them.. available for $10 at harbor freight.
No. I just use whatever I can find. I think a determined thief will break any lock. My strategy is to just use a bunch of locks to slow them down and make it not worth the effort. Thanks for watching.
I secure my cargo trailer by chaining up my wheels and my spares tire as well. I also use a hitch lock and I secure my safety chains. I'm going to engrave my Driver's license number onto my trailer soon. By engraving my Driver's license number onto the trailer, the Police will be able to quickly identify who the trailer belongs to in all 50 States, in a matter of seconds. I seem to have the only trailer in my Subdivision that is secured. I'm guessing that I must live in a low trailer theft area.
Yes it’s bummer for sure. Hopefully just a one time thing. I owned the trailer for 10 years when it got stolen and it’s now been 7 years since it happened. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess I can tell how much you were affected by this theft. I'm a patrol officer and I have a difficult time finding people's stolen trailers because there are so many of them and they all look alike. I know they all don't look alike, but they kind of do and finding the stolen trailer isn't easy. You have gone to extreme measures to keep your property safe. Thanks for sharing your ideas and I too hope it was a one time thing for you. You provide a great service to people by sharing your experience and then you give great ideas on how to keep your property safe. The only other thing I would add is if a person who owns a trailer can keep the trailer out of sight, then there's a greater chance the criminal won't steal it. I always advise people to park a vehicle in front of their trailer as you did. It just didn't work out for you because your thief was determined to steal your trailer.
