    Wow! 140 pumpkins from 20 plants, Seminole pumpkins are very productive! And you usually don’t have to worry about vine borers with Seminole pumpkins or butternuts because the vines are very hard.

    Folks, don't forget that seminole pumpkins can be eaten green. They are great cooked up like summer squash or fried up in cornmeal...don't throw em out....FYI ( of course the chickens always like em too :)

    I was surprised at how pretty the inside of that butternut squash was! Now I'm really looking forward to harvesting the ones I have growing. Looks yummy!

    Thanks for your videos. If things ever go south, at least people have experience from your channel. A book would be a good idea.

    I believe these Seminole and butternut in my experience have a hard azs vine which seems to protect the plant from vine squash borers, my problem is mildew later in the season but as you said color dictates harvest and I always rinse the fruits off with hydrogen peroxide prior to storage which cleans them and increases storage lifetime. Thanks for your growing tips, I’m a “bigger” is not always better for taste and because I can’t eat a 15-20 lb. Butternut, cool to grow but to pulpy and not so delicious lol.

    Reminds me of those Hubbard squash. Had to coordinate with two or three families before harvesting.

    The giant squash looks like a banana squash on the inside C. Maxima as opposed to C. Moschata like Butternuts, also seed cavity on a butternut is concerntrated at one end, whare as you specimen seems evenly spread

      @LazyDogFarm  Рік тому +1

      It does. But I can confirm that it is C.moschata.

      Chickens love anything you throw at them, you may have to bust it open but they will peck it down to the skin.

    How does the flavor of seminole compare to the classic pie pumpkins they sell in the store?

    Are you concerned about the squash bugs multiplying once you've chopped everything up and expanding to your other garden plants?
    I can't remember if they need the stems in tact in order to fully reproduce to adult stage..

      A little, but we won't grow any cucurbits in this plot for another year or two.

    You plant that millet and those DUCKS will destroy it before your chickens even get a chance!

      I don't care what anyone says ducks can ruin a lot fast compared to chickens if they just run wild. It was like my garden was their own food forest and they had 9+ acres to wander and a 3acre pond but I no my garden was for them and instead of the pond if a puddle was across the street they was in that.. it's nuts I guess the grass is always greener across the road. They are so messy I doubt I will ever have a duck again
