GREASE LIGHTNING! What a fun movie that made dance to every single song! I had enjoyed every single character but John Travolta was a stand out for sure and seeing his swager on screen really made my day.
Thanks for watching! Have a great day! :)

If you want to see a John Travolta film with a lot of good dance moves, check out Saturday Night Fever, 1977. You will hear a lot of Bee-Gees songs in that one, as well. 🎵🎶

The Sandy's dead theory dies when you learn that the ending with the flying car doesn't exist. Being a stage playing, the sets are limited, so it starts on the first day of school, not at the beach.
Stockard Channing (Rizzo) was 34, Olivia 30, Travolta was one of the youngest at 23.
A lot was changed between the original play and the movie including adding the car race, and adding and removing songs. Hopelessly Devoted to You was written for the film by Olivia's song writer. He also wrote all but one of her songs fir her next musical Xanadu, the definition of a guilty pleasure film. You enjoy it, but are afraid to recommend it because it is legit insane and bad, but Olivia is great and looks amazing, it features Gene Kelly's final performance (though you can't see his feet during his skate dance, which he really did himself - a true legend), and the music by Olivia and...ELO. love it or regret it, I think it would make a fun reaction video.

Rizzo is my favorite character. The Worst Thing I Could Do is my favorite song. When they did Grease live on tv a couple of years ago, Vanessa Hudgens did Rizzo, and she killed the song.
You walk with a book on your head to teach you to walk straight with good posture.
The principal is Eve Arden, who starred as a teacher in Our Miss Brooks, in the early days of tv. The school is Rydell High, after 50s heartthrob Bobby Rydell. The gym teacher is Sid Caesar, who was one of the biggest tv stars of the 50s. The host of the dance off is Edd Byrnes, who was a huge heartthrob in the 50s, though he was more of a tv star than a music star. The shop teacher is Alice Ghostley, who played the weird aunt in Bewitched.
In the play, Kenickie sings Greased Lightning, but because Travolta was the star, they gave the song to him.
The guy singing Beauty School Dropout is 50s heartthrob Frankie Avalon.
Hey, Olly, have you seen Hairspray? Travolta plays the mother. Yes, the mother.'

Actually; John Travolta did sing. During 1976; while John was still apart of the cast of 'Welcome Back, Kotter'; he had an album and hit single. The song; "Let Her In" was popular, but John became another One-Hit Wonder, as the album didn't sell well enough for a second. Because of John vocals though; he scored the role for Grease, after his big hit movie, Saturday Night Fever. The Studios wanted to get John into another big role, and since he could sing, Grease was the word!

I remember seeing it the summer of 1978 when it came out and it was a huge instant hit. The only other big hits that summer were Jaws 2, and Damien Omen 2, but when this hit the screens...those were eclipsed by this movie. And the magic lasted for it all through the remainder of the year. Even when it was re-released and paired with Saturday Night Fever, it just kept making money. Everyone bought the movie soundtrack album or 8 track or cassette. And the songs on this soundtrack were instant hits on the radio. By fall of that year, and when the new school year started up...it was no surprise to see some of that 50's fashion in some styles around the school yard. Lol. Sadly, they made Grease 2 too late and when these musicals were considered passe and no one was interested in seeing them. There was a Grease 3 planned out to reunite Travolta and Newton-John and have it focus on their kids, set around the late 60's or in the 1970's, but that all failed to see the light of day due to Grease 2's poor returns at the box office. Grease 2 is actually fun, but not as good as Grease.

I was born in 1977 and since this was mom's favorite movie she would always watch it when it was on TV. I'm so glad that young people like you still love this movie; it's really proof that this movie has stood the test of time. I went on a cruise a few years ago with a friend and his family and Grease was being performed live in the theatre. My favorite part of the play was during the song Grease Lightning, the floor of the stage opened up and the car then proceeded to raise up through the opening! It was an amazing performance by the actors and definitely one of my favorite parts of the cruise! Some other fun musical films to watch are Chicago, Moulin Rouge, My Fair Lady, the Wizard of Oz, and though it's technically not a musical it does have some singing in it and that's Blazing Saddles.

Sadly the guy in the car with flames stayed closed in Hollywood and died of AIDS(no judgment) Olivia Newton John went through numerous boughts of breast cancer. The guy who played Travolta’s best friend in in T-Birds Jeff Conway got injured during Greased Lightening and ended up in constant pain and an addict. Marty Maraschino “Cherry” is the daughter of Oscar winner Lee Grant and she did Child’s Play original film and a few episodes of The Golden Girls. Stockard Channing who is much too old to be a student at the school(Riz) was popular in the tv series The West Wing, film, and Broadway. The young jock Sandy dates for a short time is a star of both tv/film and his daughter won The Bachelor’s hand although she eventually married someone else. When this came out and I was a pre-teen, I saw it 5 times in a theater! Glee repopularized GREASE for many young people.

When I was a boy (about 11 old) movies were an EXTREME luxury item. We were dirt poor (HA! Still am) so if we wanted something we had to wake up at dawn to collect aluminum cans along the road. We'd go MILES leap-frogging my sisters in the vehicle. We'd sell those cans and mom would give us some money. My sisters and I watched Grease SEVEN times throughout that year via those aluminum cans. LOL!!! I never saw it again after that year. The magic just cannot be recreated. I stumbled onto ur channel and decided to say "Thanks' for the fun trip down memory lane. Ur reactions were great.

Great reaction as you were watching along and also great comments Re: the camera work on the film! Olivia Newton-John auctioned off the pants and Leather Jacket a couple of years ago to raise money for her Cancer & Wellness Centre here in Melbourne Australia and made a staggering AUD600,000 for them - the gentleman who bought the jacket then re-gifted it back to Olivia to do whatever she liked with it - how generous! Olivia is currently living with stage 4 cancer and doing well - last year she re-released her "Physical" album for it's 40th anniversary (speaking of iconic songs, you are sure to have heard it too #1 for 10 weeks on the billboard charts and the biggest song of the entire 80's) ONJ & John Travolta remain very close friends and have even recorded a Christmas album together, they did another film, "Two Of A Kind" in 1984 that was not well received, it's not a musical but features songs by them on the soundtrack album. Keep having fun with your film watching. Cheers from Down Under.

Grease! was absolutely a stage musical first. At least one of the original songs was replaced in the movie and both the title track and Hopelessly Devoted To you were additions for the film. The flick's a lot of fun but it would be better if our "high school" students actually LOOKED like high school students - some of the actors were in their 30s, even! lol
My understanding is that Jeff Conaway - Kenickie here in the film - played Danny Zuko on (off?) Broadway and was, initially, at least, pretty pissed that his part was given to Travolta.

What a joyful reaction! Thank you. Grease is a brightly colored cotton candy fun musical. But it's also a satire of the 1950s culture & movies... the pretenses of high school... thru the lens of the '70s... filled with iconic songs and performances. I love it so much. It's heartwarming to see it still appreciated. John Travolta was a popular tv star at this time. He really shines even more here. His physicality and stylistic nuances are so uniquely brilliant. Coming across as natural while also being theatrical. If you've never seen him as Vinnie Barbarino (Welcome Back, Kotter)... you should check out clips of him doing Vinnie's signature Barbarino song (and strut). I definitely saw a bit of Vinnie in his Danny Zuko. Always cool!

This movie is a cultural icon and the soundtrack was huge and had several #1 hits. This movie featured lots of big movie stars and popular TV sitcom stars. Frankie Avalon (Beauty School Dropout singer) was a big singer from the late 50s early 60s. Eve Arden (the principal and Sid Caesar, the coach, were big movie stars from the 50s). Jeff Conaway was popular from the sitcom Taxi. There were many more.
Olivia Newton John was a huge star already as a pop/country singer. John Travolta was a TV sitcom star who shot up to movie star from Saturday Night Fever the year before. I was 14 when I first saw it when it came out, it didn't even occur to me that these "high school" students were already into their mid and late 20s and early 30s because all seniors looked a lot older than I did. In the late 70s, there was a huge nostalgia wave for the 50s in TV with series like "Happy Days", "Laverne and Shirley", and "Sha Na Na", and popular movies like "Grease" and "American Graffiti (technically takes place in the early 60s but felt 50s)".

You should check out Saturday Night Fever (1977) and it's not-quite-so-good sequel Stayin' Alive (1983). Musical-themed, with Travolta front and center. And while there's a little bit of Bee Gees work in the Grease soundtrack, their stuff is predominant in those other films. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack album is one of the highest-selling records of all time. Fever is directed by John Badham. Stayin' Alive is directed by... Sylvester Stallone. You read that right.

It came out when I was in highschool, around the same time as the musical Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band which was silly but loved it because Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees were in it. Eye candy!!! It would be fun to see you watch The Star is Born. There are several versions but it would be fun to see you compare the musical ones. The Lady Gaga and 1970s Barbra Streisand version. I have my favorite. I love the early versions as well but the music ones are my favorite.

She was almost 30 when she filmed this and she already had a huge singing career. She was the girl next door like in the movie. The sexy Sandy at the end changed her career completely and just made her a mega star. She changed her look to a more sexy look and had most of her biggest hits in the early 80's with the Xanadu soundtrack and the Physical album. She also is responsible for the work out craze and work out clothes of the early 80's. She's retired now and in her 70's and still as beautiful as ever.

Grease is my favorite movie of all time. I was 6 when the mvie was released originally and i fell in love with it then and watch it and Grease 2 every year on my birthday. I really enjoyed watching you react too this movie. You had so much fun watching it and i love that new generations are watching this classic and loving it like i do.

I would love to see you react to the movie that put John Travolta on the movie map, "Saturday Night Fever". His dancing is amazing in that movie as well; the dancing is more mature; less bubble gum that Grease. It was his monster hit before Grease. Wow; did I hear you say John could sing? Seriously? He never sang professionally because he is not a good singer. That's the reason he has no songs except for the comedy sketch song in this musical. lol

45:01 48:14 - I hate how Sandy completely changes her personality to be with Danny, but Danny completely reverts to his old self.

@@sexysadie2901 - And I hate how she worries about what others see (well, it is high school) and feels the need to change into a skintight leather pants wearing smoking bad girl.
Starting anew and changing into a greaser's girl isn't going to change a scared and unsure girl into a rich man's Sandra Dee.
Wish she would have held her head high, took a deep breath, and made others say hello to wholesome and pure Sandra Dee (some (me) preferred her as a cheerleader).

The situation when I first watched this movie (in 1978!) wasn't all the greatest, so seeing your genuine entertainment helped me watch it again with a different eye. I enjoyed it a lot more with your commentary!

If I remember correctly, the movie is based on the stage show... However, I believe they wrote some new songs for the movie, that then got put back into the stage musical... The opening theme for the animation has a song by the Bee Gees, which is probably why it's more 70s than 50s in style... Then I think Hopelessly Devoted was written for Olivia... After that, to balance that out, they wrote Sandy Baby for John... I think... Something like that.

The soundtrack was constantly on the radio when I was growing up and my sister listened to the cassette so many times it's drilled into my brain. The main theme is probably my favourite and Hopelessly Devoted To You is amazing.

Grease 2 is not as good but still fun. As to the review ratings on Grease may be low because most if us who saw these movies when they came out don't usually go to those rating sites. I was 17 when this came out and never thought to go rate it or any of the other movies I've seen in the last 55 years. 🤷
The band at the dance is a real group called Sha Na Na. The tv host was a big deal in tv and movies back in the 50's and 60's named Ed Byrnes. Frenchie's guardian angel was a teen idol during the same era for his music and a bunch of "Beach" movies named Frankie Avalon.
In fact for some fun and a few good songs you might enjoy the beach movies starring Frankie Avalon and female singer/actress, Annette Funicello (I was named after her). Here they are in order:
    Beach Party 1963
    Bikini Beach 1964
    Muscle Beach Party 1964
    Beach Blanket Bingo 1965
How To Stuff A Wild Bikini 1967
    Back To The Beach (1987)
Sorry for the long post. 😁

Look up some of the videos of the filming on this movie. So many things i wouldn't even know where to begin. Couple - the girl playing cha cha - ended up at the hospital because of a tubal pregnancy - the gym for the dance was over 100° and people were having a real hard time with the dancing scenes - Jeff Conway was dropped during greased lightning and that ended up with him dependent on pain meds that eventually took his life - oh my goodness the things you'll learn.

    • @andreadeamon6419
      @andreadeamon6419 2 роки тому +2

If you watch greased 2 there's a lot of things about that also. The blonde is Lorna luft - also judy garlands daughter. The scene where Michelle pheiffer turns around on the motorcycle - the aunt driver told her to do it - then he does the wheelie (pretty cool - and the cast thought she was nuts for doing it when they found out she didn't have a stunt double) - Olivia Newton John was there almost everyday because she was dating matt lattanzi (the perfect trio singers) and is also the father of her daughter chloe. Jeff Conway loved Olivia so much and knew she was in love with Matt that he married her sister. Sadly it didn't last that long.
There's so much to learn about these movies and what they've done since then

Another wonderful selection, another wonderful reaction vid. THANKS for that.
This is one of the great 'side-effects' of watching lotsa movies, you build up a language (of sorts). Watching this and Saturday Night Fever for instance... such that one day, years later, some inconsequential almost throwaway line like Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction saying "you're gonna dance with me" has so much more weight to it. It as pretty cool for so many people in the audience that had grown up with a dancing Travolta to see him be Vincent shrugging off a dance.

Thanks, Ollie! 🌊 I guess it's appropriate that I'm watching this today, since the announcement of Olivia Newton-John's death occurred a few hours ago. It's comforting that she left so much talent (in the forms of music and movies) in the world... not to mention personal strength and love. #OliviaNewtonJohn #OliviaNewtonJohnRIP I hope one day you'll react to GREASE 2, as well. It's not as high quality, but has a distinct charm.

Great reaction! Your enjoyment was so infectious and I've seen "Grease" at least a dozen times, but watching you was like experiencing the film anew. SO FUN! "Grease 2" might be fun to check out on your own (although I wouldn't mind if you did it here, TBH)- it's basically a role/sex reversal of the Original, but has some worthy songs and dance numbers. This was Fun. ❤

So much fun watching you react to this great classic. I must have seen it ten to fifteen times. The movie was a bit before my time, but I remember as I was growing up, this movie was shown on tv over here many times in the late eighties and early nineties. I just had to watch it every time it was on, I couldn't zap away from it, it's so much fun.
I didn't know about the theory of it being a fever dream of Sandy dying from drowning and at the end going up to heaven in the car. That's quite dark and morbid, but also fascinating. Keep up the great work, you're awesome
