That was so well thought out! I changed my goal a little in the past few days - each month I would like to read at least one adult fiction book, one children's classic lit book, and one Christmas book. I have so many Christmas books on my TBR that I think this is the only way I can make a good dent in that list.
Thanks for your sharing. I've set a goal for 2025 ~ read 6 classics before turning 60. I usually read cozy or historical mysteries. But next year, I will concentrate on one classic every two months and fill in the spare time with other books i feel easy to read.
Thanks Jenn, very helpful suggestions. I have a Reading Journal a dear, dear friend gave me by Anne Bogel. It is just way too small to write in ALL info listed on pg. Esp. "Favorite Quotes"" and "Over All Impression" as well as " Themes". I already ordered Reading Journal, but we'll see when it comes. I AM EXCITED about doing this! It will also help me save for needed bookshelves. Will do the "pick 25 the first few days after Christmas.😊🎄🎁🎆🎉🎄😋😍🎄
I am glad you found this helpful, Eileen! I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of space in this journal and am really hoping it works well for me in the coming year. I’m glad you are excited about your reading goals for next year!
tbr: Jane Austen (now I’m reading “Persuasion”), Agatha Christie (the date of publication in the UK), books on my bookshelf (way too many) and the Book Club (it’s an excellent excuse for getting new ones); that’s my plan
Thanks for sharing Jen. I like the journal and how it can help with your bookshelf goals. I am mood reader. Currently my reading goals are to continue reading books that I only enjoy. I am always open to new authors and it is okay to let go of books I am not interested anymore. 🙂
Hi Jen, I don’t really have any goals for 25 except for the read tour shelves along with you and the Emma M. Lion read along . My goals usually end up being numerical which is t always a good goal to set. Your channel is a highlight of my year. ❤🇨🇦
I see some FitzOsborne books on the shelf behind you! 🙂 I really like your book journal! It’s a nice layout. I don’t know that I’ll do it in any formal way, but I definitely want to focus on reading from my shelves in 2025. I got too overwhelmed with how many I have to even use Book Buddy after downloading it. 😂
You do! I bought the second and third ones after our chat. 😁 Now I need to read them! I can totally understand being overwhelmed by Book Buddy! And good luck reading from your shelves however you do it. 😊
I like how the journal is set up. I love your idea of tracking the books you already own. Thank you so much for sharing it! Perhaps you could use the bookstacks to write down the titles of any books mentioned in books you are reading that pique your interest. I find so many good books that way. Love the quotes!💕
I'm (mostly) a mood reader too and decide from book to book and library pile to library pile. But i really want to get on with my country reading project next year (i.e. to read at least one book from each country of the world). The next ones are another book from the Faroe Islands and one from Ukraine.
I definitely want to join you in reading books off my own shelves. I hate to think how many books I have that haven't been read yet. I love using a reading log! Your reading record book looks wonderful! So my primary goal for the year is to read as many of my own unread books as possible :).
I've been thinking about reading from the Furrowed Middlebrow list at Dean Street Press for 2025. For me, that would mean buying the books - but I don't have a lot of books that I own. Always been more of a library book reader. Not sure I want to start accumulating, but I will definitely have to be diligent about reading a book ahortly after I buy it if I do!
I love the Furrowed Middlebrow imprint by DSP! I have a number of them on my shelves to get to next year. That sounds like a really fun reading goal. 😊
I love watching Reading Goals videos! They always inspire me to make my own, even though I tend to get carried away because I want to read all the books but I forget to include life in my reading plans. 😂 I might have to actually buy that reading journal because it looks perfect for the kind of reader I am. Thanks for sharing; I really enjoyed this video! I’m looking forward to watching the upcoming videos you mentioned!
I also love planners so this was a great “crossover” video for me. 😊 I liked your idea of four categories of reading - mystery, kindle etc. per month. My goal is to read a book from a series I am working my way through, two from my shelf and one classic a month. I am also doing the 25 in ‘25 challenge and am using a bingo board to glue photos of the covers on so I have a visual representation of my progress.
Planner videos are so addictive! I love watching them. I’m so glad you enjoyed this. I love your Bingo board idea. That sounds fun! Good luck with your goals!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing I LOVE planners as much as books! So far, I have a goal to read 125 books; mostly off my shelves, PLUS 25 in ‘25-(yes, that’s 150 total)-these are specific books I have listed, ALL from my shelves. 5 are nonfiction, 2 are on Kindle and 2 are on Audible. 10 are from that “1000 books to read” book. 😅
Goals... my version of read-your-shelf will concentrate on the books-in-boxes from the last time I moved. And my library holds list. It shocks the librarians to see how many I think I want to read.
These are great reading plans, I like it and could try it also for a while too. I forget about the Kindle books all the time. A Co-worker gave me a reading journal. I use an Excel spreadsheet to track my books, at the end of the year, I total up the number of books by male or female authors, how many pages I read for the year, what month I read the books, categorize it by fiction, nonfiction, year published, new/used/ Kindle, whether it was a classic, what genre is it, was it translated, is it a series, is it by American/European author, so that by the end of the year I can see what books I am attracted to. I choose a favorite book for each month, quarter, semi-annual, and finally my number one book of the year. I do have a lot of books by authors from around the world that I would like to get started also for 2025 too. Some people read a book from every state. It should be a great reading year for 2025!
I love the sound of your Excel tracking sheet! Amazing! And it’s so easy to forget about ebooks…especially since I’m not drawn to reading on my Kondle. Time to rectify that in 2025! 😊
I am a huge huge mood reader. At the moment I have been reading Christmas romance books. I read a lot of romance books. In January I don’t know which books I will be reading.
I had to put Mistletoe Malice into the DNF pile for now. It just wasn't the kind of book I want to read at this time of year but I will probably start over again with it in the future sometime. I'm not sure that you would enjoy it......
I have an idea for that “Books Finished” section. I’m concerned that you might not have enough space in that section, considering that you tend to read over 100 books per year. To gain more space, you can utilize the left-hand pages in the same way as you would the right-hand pages. Write the title and author on each illustrated book, then write what date you finished it, and draw in a star rating.⭐
Oh that’s a great idea! I think, if I did the math correctly, there are 240 lines for books finished. So I *think* I’ll have enough room but if not I will definitely utilize your suggestion! 😊
I've been thinking about reading the Russian writers and the Stoics this year but seem like a steady diet of that might be a bit too somber one right after another like that, particularly the Russians. We'll see.
I’m standing by with a pointed stick to prod you lest you stray from your 2025 reading goals.😆
😂
😂😂😂 This is EXACTLY the support I need, MJ! Tough love!
😂
That was so well thought out!

That sounds like a wonderful and realistic goal! Good luck with it. 😊
I love that journal! Have fun setting up your goals! I am still working on mine.
Thank you! Same to you.

I like this journal very much!
It is really lovely! I’m excited to use it next year!
That's a fantastic journal!
I’m really looking forward to starting it! I plan to get it all set up after Christmas and ready to go for January 1! 😊
tbr: Jane Austen (now I’m reading “Persuasion”), Agatha Christie (the date of publication in the UK), books on my bookshelf (way too many) and the Book Club (it’s an excellent excuse for getting new ones); that’s my plan
That sounds like a wonderful plan! Austen and Christie are always a good idea! Enjoy! 😊

Thank you so much, Allison! I'm so glad you are here! It sounds like you have some great goals lined up if I do say so myself! Here's to a great 2025!

Fill in the book stack drawing with books that you absolutely loved.
Great idea! Thank you! 😊

@jensreadinglife it was close to 100 earlier this year 😳

I am a mood reader too. Basically I like to make a plan for what to read and then completely ignore it and read whatever I feel like. 😂
I had to put Mistletoe Malice into the DNF pile for now. It just wasn't the kind of book I want to read at this time of year but I will probably start over again with it in the future sometime. I'm not sure that you would enjoy it......
Good to know! I think I will skip it. 😊

That does sound quite somber! Maybe break those up with some lighter reads in between?
