  • I am on a no ac service call. On this call I find the air conditioning evaporator coil is iced up. I run the blower without condensing unit. Once the evap coil defrosted, I leak search the coil. I locate a refrigerant leak. Next I seal the leak. Unfortunately I find a second leak. Therefore I braze closed the second leak. I evacuate the system to 350 microns. Finally I recharge and test operation of ac system.

    19:00 - You lucked out here, man! The distribution tube that needs repair is right where you can reach/see it and not behind.

      Yes often with Lennox coils the leak is in the back lower section where the U bends go through the steel

    I'm pretty impressed you fix the leaks before replacing.

      Once a leak is repaired. No reason to replace.

    You are a REAL AC technician and not a parts changer. You take pride in your work. Bubble it up! Boom! Schoom! Do you make field trips to Georgia? They are all "sorry we can't fix it you need a whole new system" down here in the ScamLanta ATL area..
    (except for the Mexicans who still have a work ethic)

      I wish I had time to travel. Work, family, and trying to fix up house. Sad if no one wants to do repairs and just sells. I see that with a lot of the younger techs.

      @@thehvachacker Hi, I just woke up this morning and wanted to clarify basically because of my Italian background I can't shut my mouth. I wrote about our R22 system. It needed a charge to bring it up to speed but it's obvious that there is a leak in the system. The tech said the charge should "get us through the summer" . I asked him to leak check it and he said "$90 to leak check it but it's a waste of money since the leak is non-repairable". (wtf, is he clairvoiyant or something??)I had him charge it up and it blows cold at 18 degree differential. I requested that he put new metal Schrader valve caps on and see if that would help if it's possibly leaking there and he did so. I used my Harbor Freight Refrigerant sniffer and found that when the sniffer is put next to the high pressure line inlet hole at the evaporator it picks up a small about of refrigerant leak. I'm gonna have to carefully take the cover off and see where it is leaking. Then call a Mexican tech and see if they will fix it!!! I have 609 cert for working on automotive but i can't touch it because i don't have 608 cert yet. Haveaniceday.

      replacing instead of repairing is not always bad, sometimes you gotta weight the cost and benefit. Consider how old your system is, where it's leaking. People patch up leaks and later find out they have more leaks than blame the tech, why didn't you replace instead of making me go through all these expensive repairs and have it replace anyway.

      We all use what we feel is best. I like lugging one tank instead of two. I also do a lot of soldering. Many heating systems either threaded together or soldered.

    Get you a pack of the blue sticks... brazes right onto the distributor head especially with the brass eating up majority of your heat... good emergency repair 🤘🤘🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Thanks for the video, did you change the filter dryer? What program are you using for the computer information. Good Job in very difficult area to work in.

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  3 роки тому

      I left the drier since it is inside the condenser. I pumped down so it was never opened to contaminants. I would of had to recover to replace. The program is measure quick. It works with most brand digital gauges with bluetooth

    Hi, wouldn't it have been easier to remove the coil, pressurize it with nitrogen and try to repair the leaks? Thanks for video.

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  3 роки тому

      Yes and no. Removing takes time this was Friday before Labor Day. I was their till almost 8. Customer didn’t want no ac for master bedroom for a long warm weekend.

    Those brass distributors are a nightmare without 55% silver or newer flux core rods for bi metal. They never want to take with straight brazing rods without causing another leak. Wasted too many hours on walkin distributors when didn’t have roll of silver on truck.

      Plus much easier with oxygen rig so can get in and out quicker to not overheat it.

      Because of many issues I also had with the brass distributors I wet raged it. Many times other distributors move. I need to get an oxy acetylene set up for certain occasions. I couldn’t find my roll of safety Silva and this was Friday before Labor Day. My customer just wanted ac. Therefore I was willing to do what I could. These Lennox Evaps are garb. I fixed 3 coils in this house last summer. A different one I replaced.

      It was the Friday before Labor Day. I have lots of vids to either upload or delete. I figured this was a fun job, therefore share it. Today is 61 the warmest do so far. No ac calls might start coming in on the commercial side.
