Just fyi, during this set, Princess Diana died n the crash. Buses stopped running b4 end of Foo's set, so me & my friend crashed behind the Science Museum. I remember getting up the next day & seeing the headline when we went 2 McDonald's. I traced back the time-line. Yeah, SY were ok, but wish L7 & Beck's sets were on here! Foo's set from the ground is a kick ass set, & pretty good quality once the crowd settles down. We were round 5-yard-line, same-side. But just wild af 2 go back n time! Seattle was awesome back then. ✌ ❤ 🚬

Mike is back!!!
He never really goes away.....
@@KeithKeef okay, never mind
Extended break. Had to wow the audience with a relatively boring SY show. Although a new 3rd video angle. Snooze.

Wow! love Sonic Youth
I was there. Most of the crowd didn't seem to care, but I was impressed with how far out they were willing to go. At times, they sounded like the Dead in 1974 chasing the muse wherever it lead them.
I was there too, and I agree it felt a bit that way. But actually they were playing stuff they'd rehearsed over and over at Echo Canyon and were fine tuning to add vocals to for A Thousand Leaves (plus a couple SYR tunes they rarely played live). It was amazing though to see a band that people wanted to be the next grunge superstars (Nirvana sure wanted them to do so) go out and play instrumental pieces with long drones and let the audience deal with it. Sure "Sunday" was finished and sounded like a potential hit, but they didn't play a note anybody would recognize except for "Anagrama" and "Stil" which only the biggest Sonic fanatics (raising my hand...) knew at all. People were all calling out for "100%" or "Dirty Boots" but no way...
I remember being excited for this show. Ha. I can honestly say, It felt like a nightmare and I couldn't wait for SY to get over with on that day.
Weird show, this sort of festival crowd would probably prefer hearing the SY Hits
Post washing machine era, perhaps best SY sound
