We were on the Osiris in September, suite 304. This was our 4th Viking cruise and it did not disappoint. The suite was very comfortable and the staff were so attentive. The excursions were amazing, but nothing can prepare you for Egyptian afternoon heat in September- averaging 105 degrees Fahrenheit. I used the pool almost every day. It doesn’t take long for the sun to warm up the water. Viking is the only way to go in Egypt; they take guests’ comfort and security very seriously.
Hey! Thanks for the comment and coming along with us! We loved it so much! The excursions were really incredible and we felt like we really learned a lot, as well. No kidding on the heat! Wow! So glad you found us. Where are you heading next?!
We booked this cruise (way back in June of 2021) on the Osiris for mid to late October 2023 and we'll be next door in suite 305! It looks fantastic though I have probably have over booked us on excursions, but as you say it's unlikely we'll ever be in Egypt again. I assume we could decide at the time to not go on an excursion if we didn't want to?
Hey!! Thanks for the comment and coming along with us:). You are going to love the trip!! Let us know how it goes. You have a window to cancel a couple days before each excursion, so you will have some flexibility. We loved absolutely everything and while it’s a packed trip encourage you to take full advantage of it! We skipped the optional temple light shows and the market dinner and as we heard from most those were good to skip if you want to rest. Hope it’s an amazing adventure for you!:)
@@dchiddengems I think we are good. We didn't opt into the market dinner and the temple light show excursion has been removed, from what you say probably because it was not the best and they wanted to maintain the level of the experience. Looking forward to it! By the way... I thought your video was well done and professional looking. Well done
@@dchiddengems It was a fantastic trip but as you indicated--BUSY! So much to see it's hard to imagine what could have been left out and the hot air balloon ride over The Valley of the Kings was worth the 4am start time. Perhaps if the trip had been a week longer it could have been a little more relaxed but of course that would have made it more costly. Be prepared to be on the go almost every day. I thought the Viking experience itself was very elegant. Of course this was our first cruise of any kind so I have little to compare it to but we were impressed. When we were having dinner with one of the other guests that had been on many cruises said that we'd "started at the top" with Viking and I'd have to agree.
We were there in June, last cruise of season for Osiris. Our cabin was opposite yours, great cruise overall other than the oppressive heat. Also had Manal as our guide! “Don’t forget your whispers”. I think I was one of the few that used the pool, not because it was cold but because it was way too hot to be in the sun for more than a few minutes.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Cool that you took same cruise, same experience. We loved it. It was pretty hit when we were there, so we bet you were warm:). It was definitely a trip of a lifetime and so glad you enjoyed it. Glad you’re coming along with us!!!
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Sorry you had to cancel. We’d have done the same. Are you going somewhere else or going to wait until things improve ti travel? Hopefully things will improve soon:)
Hey!! Thanks for the comment and coming along with us! We loved the trip. It’s kinda both: Viking includes an excursion at every port, but you’ll likely find things you want to do that aren’t included, and then pay for those. For example, on this trip a visit to Great Barrier Reef wasn’t included, but city tours were. We took a mix of free and paid tours, and would recommend you do the same. They can be a little pricey, but after getting there it’s a shame not to see and do all you want to. Thanks again for coming along with us!!:)
Hey! Thanks for the comment and coming along:). That sounds like a really unique experience! We can only imagine all you saw 30 years ago. We loved the trip and left feeling we’d really seen such important and unique things, with so much left to see. So glad to have you join us!!
Hey! Thanks for the comment. You’re going to love Egypt:). The cruise we took was part of an overall trip with Viking.com. If you’re already in Egypt and want to add a Nike cruise there are many options to choose from there. We don’t have any specific recommendations as we were on Viking but heard from others there are many choices of duration, accommodations, and tiers of service. Please let us know what you think about Egypt and your recommendations and learnings. Bon voyage!!!!!
Hey. Thanks for the comment and coming along. The cruise was only 7 days, but the total trip was 17 days. It didn't include air, which we did on our own, from Washington, DC. It's a great trip, and really gave us a wonderful experience. Viking's inclusions make it easy, and our experience with the guides and everybody on the ground was great.
A few questions, I suppose Cairo hotel is not included ? so in Cairo does the tour coach come to pick you up at your hotel ? How to meet up with the group since everyone is staying at different hotels? Is the Cairo-Luxor flight included ? What kind of airplane was that? I have some flying phobia 😅 thx
Hey! The Cairo hotel is included, as well as the transfers and the Cairo-Luxor flight. Pretty much everything is included in the tour. We flew regular coach on commercial airlines. It was all very easy and we were very comfortable. Everybody travels together as it’s all part of the package. Are you considering going?! We loved it!! Thanks for the question and coming along with us!!:)
Hey!! Thanks for the comment and coming along with us:). We were there in November and December. The weather was good. Definitely not extreme and we were very happy with the timing. Are you considering it?
Hey, and thanks for the comment. We have done both but prefer to book our own. As we usually extend cruises on front- or back-end we find it’s easier and preferable for us to have direct control of our flights. We know many people who use Viking, and if you use them of course you have benefit of adding the flights to their insurance if you buy it, they include transfers automatically (we pay for them if not on their extensions) and they take ownership of you have any issues like delays, etc. Because we usually book our own we usually get to the departure city in plenty of time to accommodate any delays that could happen as well as give ourselves a few days to adjust from the time change-jet lag so we are refreshed for the trip. So glad you’re coming along with us!!:)
20K ??? Somehow that is not in proportion. For example, for 40K you can rent a whole luxury Dahabiya with 8 crew, all to yourself and without engine noise. Or for 60K and you can rent a big luxury Dahabiya with 6 Suites and whirlpool for you and your friends.
Hey! Thanks for the comment and coming along with us!! The price was for the whole trip, which included travel, hotels, meals and tours on land in addition to the cruise. Those options you mention sound really cool!! Have you done anything like that? Would love to hear about your thoughts if so. Really glad to have you coming along with us!!:)
Any questions about cruising on the Nile River, about Viking Cruises, or exploring Egypt in general? If so, let us know and we would be happy to help. Happy travels!
What were the dates of your cruise? We are planning on the same cruise with both extensions. While we are considering end of August due to our schedules, we are concerned about the heat in Egypt. The alternative could be mid-March, though we would have to wait two years!! Thoughts?
Hey Linda. Thanks for the question. We stayed in The Fairmont, so be sure to check your room is non-smoking and inspect it if you aren’t a smoker. Have fun!!
So sorry you didn’t like it. The purpose of the video was to showcase the ship. But you should definitely see the adjacent video series on the Egyptian adventure itself. You can see everything from crawling inside King Tut’s tomb to scaling the great pyramid. Try that!

Do you have to pay extra for the excursions or are they included? Beautiful trip!! ❤

30 years ago we went on a Nile cruise and it was great all the stop offs were magical some of the things are now closed off to the public

Hey! That’s absolutely correct!!:). Thanks for coming along with us!
Hi there, great video. I'm going to Egypt next month, can you please tell me which website to book this cruise. thank you

For $20,000, for 2 including air....How many days was the cruise? And where did you fly from?

In hot climates pools are for cooling down.
Hey! For sure that pool was!!:). It was like an ice bath!:). Thanks for coming along with us!!
Fun fact: Egypt is not hot year-round 😮
Yes, this is true. We spoke to several folks about this. Thanks for coming along with us:)
Did you have Viking book your air tickets or self booked?

this has NO Egyption vibe AT ALL. I think this is so sad.
