We are avid Viking cruisers so I’ve been curious about the different stops that this ship made and thanks to your video, now I know. I live about two hours west of St Louis and we’ve traveled along the Mississippi, so this cruise is one that I will pass on, but hope those who choose to take this cruise have a great time!
Nice video! I can’t wait to relax with my wife and soak in the beauty of America’s “Father of Waters!” And a big salute to Galena, Illinois - the home town of Ulysses S Grant!
Yes, Grant, his wife Julia and children did move to Galena, but he was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio, and, in 1823, lived in Georgetown, Ohio before he left to attend the Military Academy at West Point. Just an FYI.
Considering that many of the people on Viking European river cruises are American, I'm curious as to how many Europeans do the Mississippi or Great Lakes cruises.
I’m used to Caribbean cruising with the big lines so I figured I would take a look at what these go for…. Jesus these are soooo expensive 9K, 12k, 14K, holy smokes I can’t justify this.
You can thank your Congressman for the Jones Act (Google it). This also illustrates how much more it is to produce and man ships in a 1st world country.
Hi Jason. She's a pretty River Ship indeed. And I thought the itinerary was splendid. A beautiful trip. I guess Mamsen's did not go over well, hmm?? Which is why they probably removed it quietly. I see they got many things right in the cabins, that are lacking on so many ocean going ships, yes? A few little tweaks here and there, and she may be a Great River Vessel. The marriage of Scandinavia and Americana works well.
My guess is Mamsen’s was removed to eliminate further congestion, but as a fan of the bakery, I missed it. Viking’s cabins are always top notch, especially on the line’s ocean ships. And this riverboat is nearly perfect. Thanks for watching!
Why not tell us the cost of a cruise! These river cruise companies are missing out on so many families that would like to cruise the river but cost is prohibitive. I looked into a cruise with a company that is now shut down and the cheapest cabin for 2 for a week cruise was over $16,000! No pun intended but " you're missing the boat"!
It's the somewhat monotonal voice, unusual phrasing and intonation, and breakneck speed of the narration that makes it sound barely one step up from AI.
Umm, the American Cruise Line ships are much better than Viking's. The food and SERVICE are top notch. The seating is MUCH more comfortable throughout the ship. (Not those spartan, IKEA furniture things on Viking) I have never understood the appeal of the sterile, spartan, European styling choices. On a long cruise, give people something that is COMFORTABLE to sit on, something you could curl up in and read a good book while enjoying the scenery pass by. Dining chairs should also be comfortable so you can enjoy your meal. These are not hard concepts to understand.
Who sits on a river cruise? Did a 15 day Viking and was off the ship all day every day but once. Comfortable seating at dinner and entertainment areas. Great food overall. No problems at all with them
@@johnp139 we only had one day out of 15 to enjoy going down the river. Got off the boat early for tours and back at dinner, boat cruises all night and wake up at the next stop, on and on. Maybe it was our cruise but have spoken with others that had the same. We had a balcony and did get a drink and sit out on it after dinner some nights
@@amybradley5821 On the Viking Grand European River Cruise (14 days) it was very enjoyable watching the passing landscape and castles. I guess that there aren’t many castles along the Mississippi. 😀

@@Dziadzia-d6e Thank you! I appreciate the info!
I’ve done several Viking River and Ocean cruises. I always thought no way about a Missippi cruise. After watching your video I’d like to try one.
So glad it inspired you! Bon voyage!
Very informative and interesting!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching!

I had no idea.. yikes 😳

Jones Act
Right!!!! 2 people can do a Caribbean cruise for a week cheaper than one can cruise the Mississippi for 3 days

How long ago was this video recorded?! I see a friend I know
Only a couple of weeks before posting...

The soft drink cooler ISN’T FREE! IT’S INCLUDED!!! If it was free, one of those jet skiers could have gotten one!
The automated narration voice over is very unpleasant and fake sounding as well as poorly paced. I will look elsewhere for information on this topic.
Would be a great video if it were not for the narration. Way too fast and artificial sounding.
I'd rather have impeccable service than "friendly" service.
I can't take the AI voice!
It's not AI. He's a real person. He and his wife have been doing these videos for years.

I just turned the CC on and the volume off. The most annoying cadence and ending at each sentence or phrase. 😮

@ no I was on the Grand European as well. We only had one day of scenic cruising, the rest were docked at a different city every day
