Thanks for making this video. I was shopping for replacement filters for my respirator and noticed someone selling them for a lot less than the going rate, so I immediately suspected they might be fakes to be that cheap. 3M should weigh in on this topic because many are depending on these filters!
Just so everyone knows, 3M does have manufacturing of P100 filters in Singapore. These have the matching lot number on the bottom right of the package and will be labeled 1091CN. These are not fakes. I was on the phone with 3M today about this. The specification booklet that comes with them spells out their NIOSH rating as well. 3M stated that it is not required for them to have expiration on the filter just on the packaging. But the lot numbers should definitely match.
one more sign to spot the fake 3M product: the fake 3M logo is separated by a wider space (like, 3 M) -- while in the original logo the "3" and the "M" are positioned very closed together.
You're correct! The issue is all the fake seller advertised the genuine photo but the actual product is fake. My advice is to buy from the authorised seller with a credible company/ website.
THX for this video. I suspect the corona crisis will accelerate the production of fake filters. It would be great to see what the original CN filter looks like.
Thanks for making this video, I've been relying on these filters during the pandemic and it's good to know how to spot the bogus ones when having to rely on Amazon.
Hey Secondearly Secondearly, thank you so much for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent video tutorial on how to identify a fake (counterfeit) 3M filter. I learned a lot from your presentation.
@davidmartin9098 So how do you explain the "Made in USA" on the fake filter package? Are you perhaps selling those fake made in Singapore with "Made in USA" on the package?
Thanks so much for the info. Just wish I would have know before I purchased 2 from eBay Probably saved me and my employees life as well as a few others
Wa alaykumu as-salam brother. Masha Allah. This was definitely needed to remind us all to stay vigilant. There's too much happening in the world right now, and the last thing we need is to be sold counterfeit PPE's. Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
What matters is the quality. Look under the microscope to see which is better. The Chinese one I got from ebay surprisingly has finer non woven than the 3M.
Thanks for the information, as we also know that 3M also have factory in China. How can we compare the original 3M filter from China and the fake 3m filter also from China ? Thanks before doc.
Hello, please help me, i bought 3 pairs , all The 3 looks like they real one from The video ,but The 3 Share The same numbers information like they genuine from this video, bags. Is it possible The 3 Share The same numbers ?
I was hoping you'd open both filters to compare the innard of each one. That would be the legitimate argument for saying that the China filter is inferior and not trustworthy compared to the made in US filter.
It's not about 'arguments.' It's about risking your life. There's no 'legitimate argument' for trusting your life to a counterfeit filter. There's no 'legitimate argument' for making the counterfeit market profitable by buying their fakes, thus increasing the supply of counterfeits. It's not like buying a fake Rolex.
So telltale signs of fake filters is just the thickness of the filter itself? okay well I have a chinese domestic market filter and it looks like a genuine one of you go off that characteristic, so mine are genuine?
Regardless of expiration the authentic 3M ones are indeed an authentic P100, as these pancake filters are being tested and certified by NIOSH and OSHA standards. Therefore it guarantees the filtering efficiency of P100 levels. For the counterfeit "fake" ones, they might look the same like the real deal original ones but they have no QC, no certification test procedures in order to determine whether it has P100 filtering capability. Most fake filters have random unknown material as the filling, often just regular cotton stuffed inside. While yes cotton to even cloth masks could do filter to some degree, but it is in no way on P100 levels.

@@philh1826 I have a pair of 2091 filters that I am fairly sure are authentic. I purchased them from a local industrial equipment company, and they seem authentic according to this video. One weighs 9.6grams, and one weighs 9.4grams. I also have a pair of 2091CN filters that I bought on ebay. They also look authentic according to this video. One weighs between 9.3grams and 9.4grams. (the scale flips back and forth between 9.3 and 9.4.) The other one weighs between 9.4grams and 9.5grams.

I agree. It would really be helpful if you could show us what the original CN filter looks like.
Whats the difference between 3M 2091 vs 3m 2097? Which one is more recommended for filtering the air containing corona virus? Thanks

Does the genuine filter have a funny smell when they are new? Mine has a weird scent and I cannot find out if this is normal.

Thank you for the video. I already have N95 filters with the cartridges but they're a bit bulky and those P100 filters are better anyways.
Are the 7093CN sold on AliExpress fake? They say Made in Canada, just like the 7093.
