  • I was quarantined at home for a week and I decided to film a typical work day. You'll see what I typically do on a day I'm working behind the desk, but know that I'm on the floor about 65% of the time, and behind my desk the other 35%. Regardless, you'll get an insight on what some engineers get to do at work.
    If you found this insightful, comment down below what you liked and what else you'd like to see.
    Thank you for watching!

    • @phillipmoua9805
      @phillipmoua9805  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Pure_Ligma,
      Because I'm in the trucking industry, most of my designs are simple bracketry components that can be easily manufactured. Sometimes I'm creative in regards to packaging a system in a neat way, and sometimes I'm truly creative in designing parts aesthetically.
      I think more in the car industry, creativity is more expressed...but I'd say I use about 35% of a true artsy creative background.
      I took art in school, and was in band so I'm lucky I have an artistic side...but being artistic isn't necessary in the automotive industry...just in a few sectors of the automotive industry (example, body panels, interior panes, anything the customer can visibly see). It's definitely a plus if you do have an artistic side though!
      Great question by the way!

    Guide Us as automotive Engineer what skills we need?
    CAD (Creo,Pro E,Autocad,Solid Works) what software u mostly
    I m a fresh mechanical engineer graduate and I want to do masters in abroad (Canada is perfect?) to get into automotive industry

    • @phillipmoua9805
      @phillipmoua9805  3 роки тому +2

      As a fresh ME graduate, you should have most of the skills you need. Depending on the automotive company you want to work for, your CAD platform will vary. For example, Honda uses Catia V5, Freightliner uses a mixture of Catia V5 and SIEMENS NX.
      As long as you have a good foundation of CAD, you should be good. You'll get more on the job training once you get into your desired company. But I mainly use Autodesk Inventor.
      I'm not too sure about Canada's school system, but seek out ABET accredited programs and look at Canadian engineering schools that ranked high in the FSAE of BAJA competition. This will give you a better idea of what universities are "best" for automotive engineering.
      Even in your Master's program, I would say you need hands on experience along side your theoretical studies. So join FSAE of BAJA and apply your theoretical knowledge on the projects!
      I don't know too many engineers that continue their education, I'm not knocking higher education, but most of the "successful" engineers just have a bachelors. Get the hands on experience and that will set you apart from the rest.
      Good luck! And I hope I helped!

      Like Mwaniki said, Autodesk Inventor can get the job done and since it's free, it wouldn't hurt to have and play with!
      I found that SolidWorks is better, but it does cost more. BUT! If your school has the software (any 3D CAD software), you can always use it for free there too! Most of the time, your school will give you a key for a yearly license for free too. So make sure you're using all of your resources!

    • @phillipmoua9805
      @phillipmoua9805  3 роки тому +2

      It is defiantly harder than it looks. I think you're taking the right steps as far as your CAD and machining skills. A lot of people don't understand the manufacturability of parts, and because you have this machining knowledge, you can better understand HOW a part should be made depending on it's main criteria's. Strength, cost, speed of manufacturing, etc. Use this to your advantage in your resume and interviews.
      As far as getting into the door, try to join FSAE of BAJA and get as much automotive experience as you can. Design parts, fabricate them, and test the parts. Show your work and process and bring a design portfolio with you on any interviews you have.
      You've gotta keep applying to automotive companies, and once you get into the field, it's much easier to transfer within this sector. Going from Honda to Ford for example.
      Also! Consider working for parts supplier! OEMs get their parts from ZF for example, or Meritor axles for trucks. Do a bit more research on WHOs providing these parts to the OEMs if you don't have any luck with larger automotive makers.
      Good luck, and don't give up!
