The most known feature about the Red Mage: being a Jack of All Trades, but a Master of None. The second most known feature about the Red Mage: having a Nice Hat.
FFXIV's Red Mage has one of the coolest weapon designs i've seen. The Rapier+Focus Crystal combo turning into a staff when casting, then using the sword for the melee attacks is really, really neat.
Lol better comment than vid 2:18 I was gonna criticize 1:55 and right after talk about no Dia. Red mage is really a budget black mage while not paying an arm and a leg for the fighter. You really don't want them to do heavy lifting healing the party while having mp needed for black magic. Took me years to learn and the novel ff1-ff3 fleshes them out but shows the thief getting massive upgrades as a ninja. You don't want a fighter nor black mage in the same party as a red mage as I suffered a lot with their overlap. Even though my character isn't canonically a RDM, I still really love the job. I'm definitely getting it to 80 and getting it top tier gear, to use along side my DRK in raids!
In my mind Red Mage will always have been at its peak in Final Fantasy XI. XIV has a unique take on the class with the dashing in and out and balancing the two sides of mages.
Red mage is probably my favorite class in final fantasy. I’ve even went as far as playing other games with the mind set of “I’m making a red mage.” And it usually goes fairly well. Also currently going through a play through of final fantasy 1 with a party full of red mages.
I feel like something needs to be clarified in the Final Fantasy XI section... Chainspell didn't actually allow for a Dualcast-type ability. What it did was, while it was active, allowed a Red Mage to cast any and *every* spell in their spell list instantly. It was treated as their trump card, as it had a very *long* recast timer upon usage, but it was typically considered one of the better special abilities in the game. Probably the closest thing to Dualcast would be the Fast Cast trait, with reduced casting times of spells and allowing the Red Mage to cast their spells much quicker than other casters like White and Black Mages.
Not to mention they also earn an exclusive (for the most part) trait that plays off the same theme: Fast Cast, reducing the casting and recasting time of all magic. And now Spontaneity, which makes your next spellcast instant, allowing for two to be cast immediately back-to-back like Dualcast :)
No mention of my boy from crisis core, Genesis was totally a red mage. Great video, I really enjoyed it. All your videos are very informative and have a lot of time and effort put in them. Thank you for making these.
Veteran Red Mage of Vana'diel here. I appreciate the high-quality video thoroughly covering the history of my favorite job, as well as explaining what I love about it so much. While "Doublecast" had to be alluded to with the ridiculously powerful Chainspell for the real-time game, we did get a version as close to the original implementation as you could get within those confines with Spontaneity, an ability that sets the cast and recast time of your next spell to zero, effectively allowing you to cast it twice in a row if you so pleased. Something I feel that I have to defend about Final Fantasy III's implementation in particular is how awesome it still was, despite that game's blatant tiering system (disclaimer: I only played the DS version). While its magic implementation was inevitably relegated to utility spells by endgame, it still had access to some of the most powerful weapons and light armor in the game, such as Excalibur and Aegis. I defeated the Cloud of Darkness with Ingus as a Red Mage, while Luneth was a Summoner, Arc a Ninja, and Refia a Devout.
There's a reason that the only job to reach floor 200 of the palace of the dead in FFXIV is the red mage, it's super powerful as a solo job, able to maintain it's strength in all aspects without going way too far into powerful strikes or huge health pools, the ability to do damage at both range and in melee, alongside self-healing abilities make it crazy powerful in most situations and dualcast obliterates any doubt that they might have trouble, sure it's still super difficult to do (i think maybe 12 characters have done it) but nobody else even comes close, I think there's like a 30 floor lead on it. Not that I'm saying they're super overpowered, because really this benefit only shows up in the deep dungeons, as higher-level content is balanced way differently. though they are still a favourite DPS pick I've seen, they hold no chance of resisting tankbuster attacks or out-healing massive heal-checks with only possessing a single target heal. I can safely say that red mages are one of my favourite jobs in the series but I'll always be a White mage at heart. *and they're so god damn stylish it hurts*
Some tidbits you left out about FF11's RDM: -They also uniquely specialized in Sword Enhancement Spells. Enfire, Enthunder, etc. This allowed them to imbue their swords with additional elemental damage, not unlike a Mystic Knight. This was later expounded upon in FF Dimensions, where RDM learned Spellblade skills. -They did not have Dual Cast, but they had a skill called Chainspell which let them rapidly fire off spells instantly for 60 seconds. -They had a single skill called Spontaneity, which let them cast any spell instantly with no recast time. -They had MP manipulation in a skill called Convert, which swapped their HP and MP values, so a fully healed RDM with a depleted (but not 0 MP) RDM can restore all their MP instantly and then heal themselves back up.
Ya but sadly they became what was known as refresh bitc and not a first pick in party's and as more job came out much like other classes became last line pick if none of the other primes were available why i think dancers were a mistake or should have ben a class release at end made to many classes voided but still first class i pick was red
Red Mage is possibly my second favorite class behind Blue Mage. I like how it balances things out. With the first game limitations, you could teach the Red Mage the remaining spells you couldn't with Black and White, being only 3 spells in that magic level., while also working as a decent melee fighter. I love jack of all trade types.
Oh my gosh, I have always loved the concept of the Red Mage, especially when dualcasting became a thing; Quantity over Quality. I dare say FFXIV is my favorite in style with the Rosy look from Bravely being a close second
My RDM glamour is a rose hairpin with a red Yorha 51 dress on, black leggings, red heels, and black gloves. I tried to mimic the BD Red Mage with FFXIV.
In Final Fantasy XI, Red Mages are actually a master of two trades: Enfeebling Magic, such as Slow, Paralyze, Dia (defense down); and Enhancing Magic, such as Phalanx and En-element spells to enchant weapons.
Red Mages were my favorite from the moment I saw them. Christmas Morning 1999, in Final Anthology. Had just finished VII, which revolutionized to my young brain the kinds of intrigue, depth, emotion, and a story a video game could provide. I'll never forget the night I beat VII. My first RPG. It was days or weeks before V, VI, & VIII would be unwrapped, which was the perfect time to have completed it, turned out. V is one of the most iconic examples of how to introduce Classes ("Jobs" my TT group friends had to correct me on for months). It was the 3rd FF RPG I ever played.) and will rank in the top 5 for me unlike most of the population. 😂
The bit about Celes and her being officially a Rune Fencer, and the FF XI section (and the bits about FF III's Scholar job) reminds me that there's basically 3 versions of the hybrid caster/melee that Red Mage represents: The middle ground of Red Mage itself, the magic focused Scholar (who trades their physical skills for extra magical might), and the physically gifted Rune Fencer (who trades a large amount of their magic for physical skills).
In Crisis Core SOLDIERs can be viewed as a sort of reverse Red Mage, being primarily focused on sword combat but also being able to use both black and white magic. In particular I'd point to Genesis as a candidate for Red Mage, using noticeably more magic than the other 1st class SOLDIERs as well as sporting a fashionable red outfit. Sadly no hat though.
Magic exist in real life too and it is difficult & dangerous to learn certain type of magical arts. Over all, if you are interested, then please be wise on what you look for and I recommend understand yourself before you decide what type of Magic you choose to be interesting, If you are not interested, then it is "ok", just do not be ignorant or treat it as a complete joke.
Guillermo Oliva III No, magic does not exist. Some things are important to us, and we pay a lot of attention to them, and then we think it’s magic when explainable stuff happens in association with those things as a result of us misunderstanding them.
@@guillermoolivaiii9550 Someone believes in something and has the audacity to call anyone Ignorant . Not that it is new that Humans like to believe rather then try to find the truth in the world but, spare us with your frippery. The guy you answered to never talked about it in that form or sense and this video is about a character Job in a Videogame not your Imagination.
Bobby Ranger Reality doesn’t shift just because we know about it. What that’s meant to mean is that we CALL things we don’t understand magic. It doesn’t mean those things literally are.
An interesting theory in FFXV is that the Caelum/Fleuret families represent black and white mages respectively. But the hunter Dave and his family show magical abilities with the capacity to seal daemons and create healing potions. In addition their last name Auburnbrie roughly means "red royalty/nobility".
Just an extra about Red Mage on FFTA and 2 is that although it could not cast higher spells it has an unique support skill called Magic Power+ that had no cost at all and made base level magic as good as the average ones and it still can combo with Dual/Double Cast making it SUPER USEFUL
Very informative. I had no idea Reds were so associated with swords. I'm actually trying to create a Red Mage style build in modded Skyrim. The Ordinator mods to Destruction, Restoration and even Alteration can make for a very effective Red. I might play them as more of a spellsword or use a staff for the looks
Definitely one of the coolest classes both in looks and philosophy. So much of gaming is about min maxing, versatility is a hideously underutilised gameplay route in multiplayer or roleplaying games. It's normally either not done at all or not done well. Dualcast is a perfect way of giving red mages their own strength beyond just versatility.
FFTA Red Mages are also quite close to Red XIII actually, since they are quite fast, allowing them to act more often than their White or Black counterpart (and their supporting role is expanded in FFTA2, with access to the Green Mages' support options)
I think my favorite Red Mage would be Freya, as she seems to be the strongest thanks to her hybrid job with Dragoon. But this is probably cause aside of being able to change jobs, I have not interacted with other official red mages.
If limit skills are any indication of job classes, Selphie from FF8 could definitely be considered a red mage. Though her limit skill "Slots" is based on rng, she can use her limit to cast high level white magic, such as full cure and wall, and could also cast from an array of black magic with the added feature of casting them multiple times in one turn.
RDM in FFXI is its best iteration. Chainspell stun, best at kiting and often at tanking in many situations. Critically important enfeebles. Heck yeah RDM.
Original. He was overpowered. The only spellcaster needed. You have fast, exit, and plenty of cure. Elemental magic is just icing, the items are enough already. His ability to use silver swords and acceptable armor early on left him nearly as good as a fighter. Ninja becomes a substitute later. You gain more tanking ability, but lack cure and exit.
Something quite common in FFXIV is the flexibility of the red mage in raid as it is quite commonly referred to as a "Res mage" due to the duelcast meaning it can pull off quicker resurrection than healers
This breakdown is great, and very interesting as someone getting into the final fantasy series as an adult. I would love a breakdown of both A: all of the jobs In a similar format to this, and B: a breakdown of each character's job across the games where each character has a set role.
Red mage in Bravely Default: a good intermediary class when not needing the Black and white mages for main classes. Also in Bravely Second the good measure ability unlocked by the bishop class allows for dualcast and the added subclasses allows for a really good utility casting.
Holy crap, the Red XIII revelation just blew my mind. How did I not see this? Also there are red mages in FFIX. It's an npc though (they're labeled as Red Mage and you run into them in Lindblum).
Also, Red XIII does equip headdresses such as clip, pin, barrette and comb which make it an elegant character borrowing the red mage trend of being fashionistas
I think that a case can be made for Selphie being a red mage as her limit break can be used to cast both black and white magic while also having the ability to cast up to 3 times.
Well one thing of note is that ever since the very first iteration, support magic does not rely on your magic stats, so red mages are naturally more suited towards support. In the original game, spells from the temper, haste, and protect line are better given to red mage so your black and white mages can commit to their job full time(dps and healing), heck, they can even cast those on themselves and start being very competent at dealing damage.
RDM was by FAR my favorite job in FFXI. So much versatility. Almost any party is instantly made better by it's inclusion. And when I didn't feel like partying, or wanted to NM hunt alone, or duo with my wife, it was well suited for solo or duo play. Many times, I would solo in areas where parties of my level we working (tho at a slower rate, I admit). Still, enfeebling, buffing, healing, teleporting, dealing damage, even pulling, or backup tanking, this mage can do it all, rather than being tied down to one boring job all the time.
great video on the red mage! one little side note you missed on its evolution or de-evolution, in FF11 they had a unique ability to enhance there own weapon with magic damage, allowing them to wield there weapon and also hit with elemental damage at the same time, in a sense combining the two style into one fighting style, kinda like how FF14 enhanced melee fighting is, but you get to choose which element to enhance your weapon with, in stead of simply being "enhanced"
@@theflashgordon193 no, he's not. Nothing about him is Blue Mage. Save for finding an Enemy Skill materia where you meet him but that seems more related to Hojo's "Specimen" as it only appears once the boss is defeated.
@@JonRON2000 you make a point . I have alway assume that because of this fact. also Enemy Skill in French is called "sentir" wich you can translate as feel or sense. Red XIII is a kind of beast so I have assume that it make sense that it was relate to him for me
Important note on ffxi iteration. RDM excelled at enfeebling and enhancing magic more than other classes and had enspells that were mostly unique to them, as well as dispel.
I like the enfeebling and fast casting version. However, I'd say it seems like time mage kind of merged with red mage when they started getting enhancement and enfeebling as their focus, because it seems like those are staple time mage qualities. In FFXI, for example, I remember spending a lot of time casting haste and slow. Sure felt like a time mage to me. And spells like refresh, which make you get MP back faster, also feel time-magey.
Red Mage has always been my favorite FF job. I did the 4 Red Mage run through FFI (by far the easiest of the single class playthroughs), I started my FFXI play time as Red Mage (switched to White main later as it was easier to get groups and cheaper to gear and get spells), and it is also my favorite job to play in FFXIV.
Seeing Alisea as an RDM was a nice way to get me interested in trying the job, i've never liked casters in 14, cant stand the turret style of gameplay, but seeing her (and that SWEET sword/staff combo) made me give it a shot. its now my 3rd main job, with Warrior being 1st and Scholar 2nd, mainly because i love those two roles more. Lightning kind of broke the rule, her stats are actually very high, she has the highest combined total of strength and magic, add that her awesome chain building skills, mainly her unique attack Army of One, and she is pretty damn scary...
@@LookItIsHope Even BLM is not that static with triple cast, swiftcast, xenoglossy and all the procs, not to mention his ability to tp all over the field. Movement and knowledge of the fight is in fact the way to distinguish good and bad BLMs, the DPS cycle being quite simple.
@@Tyranastrasza i recently played it for shits and giggles due to no content cos the worlds on fire.... holy shit its not as turret like as i feared, you can move a fair bit now.
Selphies limit break Slot makes use of both Black and White spells as well as having some unique spells. It also casts three spells making it a Triple-cast rather than a Dual-cast but it is in the spirit of it. Her ultimate weapon also boasts excellent accuracy and while nun-chucks are not classical swords or rapiers they are very much a martial style weapon rather than a more magically themed weapon like a cane, wand or staff. So while only a small aspect I think its at least worth a shout-out.
Also red Mage is super great for progging content in FF14 (I am a red Mage main) due to Dualcast allowing us to instantly revive fallen allies, which is especially useful when all the healers die
FF14 did an amazing job exemplifying what Red Mage is. Allowing us to focus on casting then switch to melee for finishers. it is by far a great example to the Jack of all trades with it's support abilities, healing and damage.
@@Hereticbliss322 Their main support ability is Embolden with the self MAG Buff and party wide Physical Damage buff. They sadly no longer have mana shift.
Fast cast 2 hour -> raise -> raise -> raise -> raise -> raise -> convert -> raise -> raise -> raise -> raise Many FFXI battles have been saved by a good RDM.
Red Mage has always mean quite a bit to me. FF1 was a huge part of my youth, and my party almost always had one. Many years later when FF5 finally made it across the pond, I swore by Red Mage in the early going. Then when FF11 came out, RDM was my choice out the starting gate. While I went on to main Bard for 12 years, I always had Red Mage leveled and geared. Then when FF3 came around, once again, I swore by Red Mage in the early game. When RDM was announced for Stormblood, I pretty much instantly retired from Bard (where I started) and White Mage (my main at the time). I love the way RDM plays in 14. The combo loop is always fun to cycle through. And being able to bust out hero moments with multiple back to back rez after a nasty situation always feels good.
I always liked the Red Mage class and concept, but it really seems like a lot of the games made the concept either redundant or all encompassing. With everybody being able to attack and use magic to some degree.
I loved Red Mage on FFXI. It was fantastic. And so versatile! Depending on your subjob, there were so many different things you were able to do in a group, and solo. Thanks for the great video!
The Red Mage was surprisingly helpful in the first Final Fantasy. My family learned this much later, but he was the ONLY ONE who could learn ESCAPE and EXIT. He could get the party out of the dungeons you were exploring in an instant without navigating through fights and battles.
I would argue that Alisae plays a major role in XIV, though she admittedly doesn't come into the story as a red mage until you're a ways in. I always thought of Elgo as a sage but his clothes do have that red mage style.
One of my favourite classes from nds ff3 (though I forgot how badass the black belt is lol). My traditional party was a "Tank", a White Mage, a Black Mage and a Red Mage. Currently thinking about how to emulate it in DnD.
I still regret not maining rdm in XI, had a couple good rdm friends that could solo NMs you weren't meant to be able to solo, and would often duo with them. Ahh good times... beadeaux [s] Im looking at you >.> XD
Very interesting video. Personally, I would have added a mention of Steiner in FFIX. While he doesn't fit the red mage role as well as Freya, he's still that character that can wield swords and heavy armor while having access, albeit limited, to black magic. Functionality wise, he has a hint of red mage in him
I essentially made one of my D&D characters into a red mage. Definitely one of my favorite classes, there's just something I love about versatility and options.
Red Mage has always been in my top 3 favorite Final Fantasy jobs/classes. My favorite version is the Final Fantasy 14 version, and is the only job that has managed to pull me away from being permanent healer
In 12 I had Vaan as a knight/red mage and gave him advanced the lvl3 elemental spells so any enemies that were weak to something were getting pelted by vaan and if no weaknesses could be exploited he had his great sword to deal massive damage... he was also good support. He was my everything character.
I’m disappointed at how far down I had to scroll to see this comment. It’s immediately what I thought of when he got to FFIX and began comparing Freya to RDM. 🙄
I actually remember Seymour being pretty strong physically... Not just in melee damage but story wise being able to wrestle with a fiend in a cutscene. And that was before he became a Fiend himself.
Red Mage was my first job to level 75 in FFXI, and it was definitely one of my favorite jobs. It was an OP powerhouse solo (especially RDM/NIN before level cap increase), and played a major supporting role in parties with Refresh to keep the mages casting, and enfeebling magic to lock mobs down.
As someone who’s sorta okay at a lot of things, but not really great at anything, I’ve always resonated with the Red Mage. And I’m also very glad their design is as cool as it is lol
I don't know why, but I've always been fond of red mages. Their ability to do a bit of everything is nice even if they cant learn the strongest spells or wield the strongest weapons
To be honest, I'd like to hear more about the Rune Fencer class. That instantly caught my attention at the mention of Runes and how they fell into the Magic tank sub-category
In Final Fantasy 11 there is a popular strategy that has been used for many years now which requires a Redmage. The spell stun stops an enemy from moving or doing any actions at all. Having a red mage use chainspell and then cast Stun over and over and over can completely shut down a boss for a full 60 seconds or even longer with proper gear. It became so popular that Square even gave some bosses gradual resistance to repeated stuns as it was breaking the game at points. GO Red mages !!
You seem to have misunderstood ff11s "ChainSpell" It did not allow you to cast only 2 spells. It removed the casting time of you spells for 1 minute, So it allowed the Rdm to spam spells in an Oh crap situation. and it was not a skill they could do very often as it was the red mage 2 hour ability (1 hour in future patchs) They were notably used as main healers during leveling because of refresh. Having a rdm pair up with a brd or cor in a party ment the rdm never needed to Rest to regain MP like a whm would need to (Meaning less time waiting and more killing). Rdm also had the added benifit of being the best enfeebiler in the game. So there were not a jack of all trades in that game, in some respects they were hands down better then a white mage for healing. Another fact if you were having a Smn in your party it was almost nessasery to have a RDM healer and a BRD in the party to keep up with the mana cost of keeping up a 2-3 Avatar buff rotation aswell as useing predator claws or double slap... Something i left out, If a rdm was melee attacking in a party they were a bad rdm, them auto attacking ment the monsters tp rose faster meaning you would take more damege overall from being hit by more TP moves. (Sorry for the wall of text)
watching this video has given me perspective and appreciation for Red Mage as a whole. Being a Black Mage main on xiv I couldn't really enjoy Red Mage as much as I wanted to having been spoiled by the sheer damage Black Mages can do. I think I can better appreciate the class by looking at its versitility and technique to be proficient
I think you missed the Dimension Series so only in Dimension 1 there were Jobs and the Red mage is one of the best classes in the beginning to get fusion magic and Also the Main Charakter aigis (jeah a dude) starts relativily close to be a Red mage since He starts with both White and Black magic and the Red mage is the first class you meet with in a Charakter who joins you in the first chapter and later Returns as magus so He dived deeper in his Black mage side also the Red mage in Dimension learns the skill atune blade which works similar to ffvi runic and Also learns magic blade to work as a spell blade in which He even excells
if they would have taken ff Dimensions with in this Video they would have perfect expamples for why celes is a Red mage. and that there are games that have Red mages as Main Charakters

My favorite Final Fantasies is the remake of the Original on the phone and FFXIV. I am fairly new to the FF games but the thing that got me into it was the Red Mage. I wanted to try the FF games since I sadly was unable to grow up on them. So I got the first game on my phone and right away I fell in love with the Red Mage. The style and concept were perfect. I have always loved jack of all trade masters of none style of jobs/classes/characters. The original Red Mage fit that mold perfectly. So of course I took into into FFXIV. Even boosted a character just so I could unlock the Red Mage right away without delay. Although it plays differently then the original concept the core idea remains in spirit and I still absolutely love it. I appreciate this video giving me the history behind the Job through all the FF games. Absolutely wonderful video.
When I played FF1 for the first time I fel in love with my Red Mage. My Red Mage called 49'er saved the team many times and filled a open role that can be used for everything.

@@Jkapricorn It actually pretty effectively exemplifies flowing effortlessly between black and white magic into martial combat before flipping back into casting. Nice catch! That's also just made me think deeper into Final Fantasy X as Seymour has the ability to Double/Quadruple cast.
@@FinalFantasyUnion Thanks! I wouldn't of made that connection with Seymour though, haven't played FFX in like 7 years after running into the Besaid dark aeon ... Really should get back to that!

We all know the real reason the Red Mage is so popular: they have style.
Capes are cool.
It's all avout "Presentation!"
Red Mage is pretty much half the reason I started FFXIV. I find the class VERy enjoyable.
Even though my character isn't canonically a RDM, I still really love the job. I'm definitely getting it to 80 and getting it top tier gear, to use along side my DRK in raids!

Rez Mage best mage
Babies first dps 🤣
.... really? Are you proud of that thing you just did? ;)
Historical documentaries on Final Fantasy classes is what UA-cam was made for
I love how red mages in FF11 have more of an armored look to them making it clear that they are also able to meelee attack.
I've done that too... 👍
Chainspell in FFXI didn't just allow for two spells, it allowed you to cast as many spells as you could get in before the effect to wear off .
Amazing !
4:46 Says "Blue Mages," shows Geomancers
*[VISIBLE CONFUSION]*
Happened with Summoner and Time Mage too xD
I was a ff11 bard. Had the relic flute and the empy harp. That bard made my linkshell very strong.
Some tidbits you left out about FF11's RDM:
-They also uniquely specialized in Sword Enhancement Spells.
Don't forget one of their main passive attribute, quick cast, allowed them to cast their spells faster than their BLM or WHM cousins.
14:33
Who is that snappily dressed fellow...?
Ooooooh, it was you! Nice red mage outfit! 👍
Bravely default?
One of my favorite classes, in addition to Dragoons. So stylish and useful in a variety of situations.
"The ability to use magic has always been asociated with fantasy".
Well, you're not wrong.

No, magic does not exist.
Some things are important to us, and we pay a lot of attention to them, and then we think it’s magic when explainable stuff happens in association with those things as a result of us misunderstanding them.

Love this “evolution of” series - would you be interested in doing one about the monk class?
An interesting theory in FFXV is that the Caelum/Fleuret families represent black and white mages respectively. But the hunter Dave and his family show magical abilities with the capacity to seal daemons and create healing potions. In addition their last name Auburnbrie roughly means "red royalty/nobility".
Just an extra about Red Mage on FFTA and 2 is that although it could not cast higher spells it has an unique support skill called Magic Power+ that had no cost at all and made base level magic as good as the average ones and it still can combo with Dual/Double Cast making it SUPER USEFUL
Red Mage/Summoner was soooo good in that game.
That's exactly why I love jack of all trades characters in rpgs!
Heck yeah RDM.
trancerchemist really FFXI’s job system was the best iteration. With the sub jobs and all the equipment variation jobs were so ridiculously versatile.
Loved FFXI and my Red Mage
Red Mage has always been my favorite class in any FF game, but FF14's red mage is so stylish there's no comparison
This breakdown is great, and very interesting as someone getting into the final fantasy series as an adult. I would love a breakdown of both A: all of the jobs In a similar format to this, and B: a breakdown of each character's job across the games where each character has a set role.
"Jack-of-all-trades, master of none... ...Is oftentimes better than master of one " RedMage
Evolutions of Dark Knight, it's one of my favourite classes
Red XIII is a Red Mage. Mind blown.
I’ve always considered him Red Mage-y. What blew my mind was is if you consider 13 as the 13th alphabet character, he became Red M.
he is more a blue mage
@@theflashgordon193 no, he's not. Nothing about him is Blue Mage. Save for finding an Enemy Skill materia where you meet him but that seems more related to Hojo's "Specimen" as it only appears once the boss is defeated.
Lol red13 is not a redmage
@@JonRON2000 you make a point . I have alway assume that because of this fact. also Enemy Skill in French is called "sentir" wich you can translate as feel or sense.

It was also interesting how you could get an accessory in FFVI that Grant's doublecast.

Red Mage?
More like BEST MAGE
Important note on ffxi iteration. RDM excelled at enfeebling and enhancing magic more than other classes and had enspells that were mostly unique to them, as well as dispel.

Red Mage forever.
Yes brotherrr
Veryes
This is a VERy good comment
Red Mages are versatile in addition to being the most stylish job class of all time not to mention being downright AWESOME!!! 😃😃😃
The only real turret in the caster role is BLM. SMN and RDM are both very mobile, with SMN having no cast times every time it enters its trances.
4NewHop3 i will give summoner a shot, i got it leveled thanks to Scholar.
it’s just a bit of gearing up i need to do, then practice the rotation.
@@LookItIsHope okay with 5.1 now out i have GOT to play SMN...
RezMage once again saving the raid
Chainspell wasn't technically dual cast, it allowed you to continuously cast spells for 60 seconds. Spontaneity was closer to dual cast..
FF14 did an amazing job exemplifying what Red Mage is. Allowing us to focus on casting then switch to melee for finishers. it is by far a great example to the Jack of all trades with it's support abilities, healing and damage.
Promecia PS4 Gaming what support abilities?
@@Hereticbliss322 Their main support ability is Embolden with the self MAG Buff and party wide Physical Damage buff. They sadly no longer have mana shift.
Promecia PS4 Gaming I see, just wondered if they had added anything in shadowbringers. It’s really shitty that they took mana shift.
Fast cast 2 hour -> raise -> raise -> raise -> raise -> raise -> convert -> raise -> raise -> raise -> raise
Many FFXI battles have been saved by a good RDM.
that of chainspell + stun on seiryu or other boss battle to 30 sec on lock :)
Please do Dragoon. They’re second to Red mages as my favorite class.
I second this notion
You forgot to mention that FF9 had NPC red mages walking around.
The Red Mage was surprisingly helpful in the first Final Fantasy. My family learned this much later, but he was the ONLY ONE who could learn ESCAPE and EXIT. He could get the party out of the dungeons you were exploring in an instant without navigating through fights and battles.
No mention of Final fantasy dimensions? They had the most iconic red mage! Perhaps the one time a red mage character played a major role
VitaminJ7734 dimensions itself was such an amazing game
So a spellfencer?
Red Mage has always been in my top 3 favorite Final Fantasy jobs/classes. My favorite version is the Final Fantasy 14 version, and is the only job that has managed to pull me away from being permanent healer
Favorite incarnation is 8-bit theater’s red mage
Oh yeah, I could quote 8BT's Red Mage all day long. Especially the ice cold fusion reactor part.
In 12 I had Vaan as a knight/red mage and gave him advanced the lvl3 elemental spells so any enemies that were weak to something were getting pelted by vaan and if no weaknesses could be exploited he had his great sword to deal massive damage... he was also good support. He was my everything character.
You didn't even mention FF9's NPCs :(
He showed the FF9 dragoon at the start and put it next to a red mage lol
Yeah the Red Mage NPC in Alexandria comes to mind
Unusual, considering they are wandering all over the world of FF9.
What a brilliant video
Red Mage was my first job to level 75 in FFXI, and it was definitely one of my favorite jobs. It was an OP powerhouse solo (especially RDM/NIN before level cap increase), and played a major supporting role in parties with Refresh to keep the mages casting, and enfeebling magic to lock mobs down.
Being a red mage type person, this was an enjoyable video, thank you.
Am you could’ve googled it with 1/10th the keystrokes as your comment required.
Do "Evolution: Cid"
In Final Fantasy 11 there is a popular strategy that has been used for many years now which requires a Redmage. The spell stun stops an enemy from moving or doing any actions at all. Having a red mage use chainspell and then cast Stun over and over and over can completely shut down a boss for a full 60 seconds or even longer with proper gear. It became so popular that Square even gave some bosses gradual resistance to repeated stuns as it was breaking the game at points. GO Red mages !!
Red Mages are my favorite class in the game. Just really cool.
Like Zoro wielding powerful spells
Just have to add the legendary Avesta in the zilart days soloing Genbu and other crazy stuff.
It's exactly right. I was a rdm in ff11. Better name for rdm was refresh whore. Rdm/nin soloing was the best though.
RDM/WHM was for pussies. Also if you used a dagger the TP gain on mobs was minimal.
watching this video has given me perspective and appreciation for Red Mage as a whole. Being a Black Mage main on xiv I couldn't really enjoy Red Mage as much as I wanted to having been spoiled by the sheer damage Black Mages can do. I think I can better appreciate the class by looking at its versitility and technique to be proficient
Of the Red mage versions I like the: Final Fantasy III DS Remake, Final Fantasy V, and the Bravely Default & Bravely Second versions.
When it comes to RDM, my mantra is “Is doesn’t matter wether you win or lose, but how cool you look doing it!”
About time~ Red Mage has always been my favorite class~ I have even played a version in DnD based on the FFXIV one~
It's my main job in FFXIV and III, love him with all my heart
I think you missed the Dimension Series so only in Dimension 1 there were Jobs and the Red mage is one of the best classes in the beginning to get fusion magic and Also the Main Charakter aigis (jeah a dude) starts relativily close to be a Red mage since He starts with both White and Black magic and the Red mage is the first class you meet with in a Charakter who joins you in the first chapter and later Returns as magus so He dived deeper in his Black mage side
also the Red mage in Dimension learns the skill atune blade which works similar to ffvi runic
and Also learns magic blade to work as a spell blade in which He even excells

if they would have taken ff Dimensions with in this Video they would have perfect expamples for why celes is a Red mage.
and that there are games that have Red mages as Main Charakters

Basically all of the Class Zero in Agito are Red Mages, each one fused with another class, example Nine is a RDM/Dragoon
Plus they do have the red clothing although rather than the red hat they have vermillion cloaks
When I played FF1 for the first time I fel in love with my Red Mage.
My Red Mage called 49'er saved the team many times and filled a open role that can be used for everything.
Lightning as RDM headcanon ACCEPTED
So I'm doing this hack in Final Fantasy Tactics where I replace the Oracle with a Red Mage job class and I've been trying to figure out how to balance it out... and this video has helped me a great deal in what spells, abilities and stats to give them. Thanks!
Ff11 and 14 did a good job with the RDM. I mained RDM in 11 but second in 14
How is RDM a good incarnation in FFXIV? Is fucking horrible, the class is just a BLM in red.
@@baez1301 I agree with this statement , XIV RDM is not the Best incarnation, i feel like it's the worst
@@baez1301 If you completely ignore everything about how both classes play and just go "Oh they cast." maybe.
@@Jkapricorn It actually pretty effectively exemplifies flowing effortlessly between black and white magic into martial combat before flipping back into casting. Even the concept of their sword becoming a staff during casting was fricking genius. Like its not unbalanced like it was in XI sure but that's a good thing.
@shadenox8164 XIV RDM is just BLM with a easy mode nuking stance and a raise, l feel bad for the people that never actually play XI RDM.
