Girish Kulkarni, as you said, is a seasoned actor. Unfortunately, he gets only small roles in Bollywood. He's pretty big in Marathi Cinema though. He has won National Film Award for Best Actor and Best Screenplay for the film Deool (2011)
btw, he was originally offered the role of constable Katekar in Sacred Games, which he declined.

dang...you give so many insights in your movie reviews that I have to literally go back and watch those scenes or even the entire movie to notice those things which I didn't pay attention to in the first watch.

All those foreign directors you mentioned have been recognised by the Oscars. But our Indian award system won't ever send his movie to the Oscars because either they don't understand it or because of his (Anurag Kashyap) political views or something
Alia bhatt is in the flashback scene, where He proposes her and they make fun of him for that.
I remember when I watched this movie... the whole time I was like OK this is the story of kidnapping and the very last shot of movie have changed my whole view towards the movie.. this is based on how ugly a human can be in his/her greed or ego... awesome movie ❤❤
He is a writer turned director.. he started as writer with debut movie Satya which is classic movie you should watch!
Satya is a must watch.
Pratik Pai absolutely!!! Satyaa is a cult classic, probably one of my top three favorite Bollywood movies of all time
There is Kannada movie called OM which inspired RGV to do Satya.
Dark Star DS maybe but Satya is 💯 original. I don’t know why South Indians always have a South Indian movie to compare with for every Bollywood movie?? There’s a lot of Bollywood that’s original and Satya is one of them. Moreover there are plenty of South movies that are blatantly copied from world cinema

The girl in this movie depicts current day Environment.
Everybody is talking about it, everyone is concerned but actions still move in the direction of Money and not to heal the environment.....
Multi layered metaphorical messaging....
The environment will be okay (until the Sun fucks it up), humans would be poof.

Anurag Kashyap told in an interview that he made this film out of the guilt of the fact that he was so caught up in making films, he couldn't spend enough time with his daughter when she was young.

I remember watching this movie in a threatre as the tickets for PK were sold out. Only a couple of folks in the threatre. When the movie ended, I was completley shook. Took me couple of days to get out of it and do some joyful stuff to feel good about myself and the society at large.

He's popular there among the directors. Martin Scorsese had written a personal note to him where he mentioned that he loved his films DevD and Gangs of Wasseypur.
Anurag Kashyap is a writer turned director. So yeah, he's an equally good writer. He's a true cinephile who has watched all of the world cinema. You should check his DVD library video of Film Companion to understand his passion for cinema.
Also, the casting of Rahul Bhat is interesting. Kashyap knew Rahul when both were struggling in Bombay and used to stay in the same colony where the character of Rahul stays in the film. Kashyap actually wanted a failed actor. Rahul was once popular in the Television but hadn't done anything significant for the past 12-14 years. So he finally casted him.

@@Lazymath007_ cringy ass ? you don't understand movies then. You really have to be a cinema lover to enjoy Devdas, all those melodramatic moments are quite intentional in that movie. One of the best movies in hindi cinema for sure.
@@Lazymath007_ You didn't get the movie thats why. It was intentional due to the script. Not every movie has to be made like Sorceses. There are different ways of making movies and everyone has their own style. I enjoyed both Dev D and Devdas. If you are talking about your taste of movies then thats fine but if you are talking about the art. Devdas might be a notch higher than Dev D

Definitely watch his Manmarziyan! the music is to die for and Tapsee Pannu is fab in it!
One thing I would like to point out is - you expect only a certain kind of movies from Scorsese, Tarantino ( dark and gritty) but Anurag Kashyap on the other hand has made movies like manmarziyan which shows how versatile anurag is compared to other directors.
I think you haven't watched The Age of Innocence and Hugo by Martin Scorsese. But definitely Anurag Kashyap is the most versatile and best director in Bollywood.

True story: I watched this movie during the early time of OSR caused it was so much requested here by stupid fans..
"I was like what's the fuss about this movie" . It's now one of my favorite and scariest movie of all time. Just the name pops the last scene of movie in my head EVERYTIME
You should watch "no smoking 🚬 .. Directed by anurag kashyap.... 💨 Blows everyone's mind... Even inception was understood by me in 2 nd attempt

I have never felt such a pit in my stomach watching a scene like the ending of this movie
Alia Bhatt is at 42.31 minutes of the movie. In the scene when a younger Soumik Bose came with a valentine card in college, she (younger Shalini) was smiling. And the name of the actor who played the older version wife is Tejaswini Kolhapure. She has acted in many movies during 90s and 2000s. It was her surprise comeback.
Finally, I knew Korbin would love this movie.. I have been recommending this movie everytime.. Thank you guys.. 🥰🥰
Korbin, I am getting worried when you put malayalam movies to this high a standard. While there are many great movies, make no mistake, there are some terrible movies too.

Alia bhatt plays the role of young shalini (the wife), in the scene where shalini in flash back talks about when the inspector (rohit roy) in college sent her a love letter and her then boyfriend (now ex) beat him up. In that scene Alia bhatt is sitting at the table of the college cafe with her then boyfriend.

1998 gem. watch SATYA ..Anurag started as a writer with this film. It's a director's film..gem of a film. No trailer will do justice to this film. Realism in contemporary cinema owes it to this film.
