Since its creation, Bosnia's history has been rich and tumultuous at the same time. Often time overshadowed by the tragedies of recent events in the country, in this video we go over its humble beginnings, medieval past, Ottoman & Hapsburg times, as well as its role in Yugoslavia and its collapse in the sequencing Yugoslav wars. Also we mention crazy hamburger, helikopter, and bosnian fish.

It's not a big deal but Sarajevo wasn't the longest siege in history because that title comes to sieges like the first siege of Ceuta which is considered as the longest (26 years) yet I'm not sure as I think there are some that lasted longer in the middle ages but that's to be verified

Very funny and amazing video! I had a fantastic time in Bosnia, such a special country, thanks to our exceptional tour guide Vekas from Bosnian Tours. Im a proud Bosniak Bosnian from Bosnia who loves Bosnia :) Yes our ancestors were christians (obviously, because we are slavs) but that was some 400 years ago. Ottomans came and took control of our land and since then we are muslims and we dont plan to change that anytime soon :)
Most of you muslims in Bosnia were originally either Croats or Serbs ( and a few Turkish settlers). Probably more Croats than Serbs as the Serbs had the "millet system" while the Croats had few protections and were more under pressure from the Ottoman Turks as they faced Catholic armies in Europe.
@@TheSouth-j7f
There were no Turkish settlers as DNA and history say
@@csypoygshovssutcgj9501 Of course there were some Turks even the former Bosniak leader Izetbegovic, had some Turkish heritage.
Although in that family's case they were immigrants from Serbia to Bosnia (in the 19th century) so they had Serb & Turkish heritage.
Most of the "old Bosnians" were Croats, who were subject to the Ottoman Turkish Devshirme practice ( the blood tax or child levy) by the Ottoman Turks. Small Christian children were taken from their families and converted.
maybe some but it was rare for slavs to intermix, even for bosniaks it was rare. Many if not most bosniaks have identical or same surnames as corats and serbs.. Which means we only changed the religion but not the tradition and our genes..@@TheSouth-j7f
