I've been a welder for 25 years and I've been doing it wrong this whole time.

@@Glace1221 nah, they don't do demotions in this field. They just fire you. But if you aren't performing to their expectations youll get less work and if you're wondering why that's a bad thing it's cause in my nearly ten years of welding with 3 different employers I've just about never seen someone get warned or written up for poor performance. What you see is people getting put on menial tasks as their warning to get their ass in gear. Usually it doesn't mean anything but if it keeps happening the days gonna come when you're gonna walk into work and they're gonna hand you a mop and you know its time to start looking for a new job

This guy doesn’t need gloves, shoes, or a welding helmet. He uses an entire rod on one pass. Master welder right there. He’s even half blinded by experience. 😂
Chipping off the slag weakened that weld by 50%.
That metal he's chipping off is slag or waste for any welder. In order to get a clean weld you gotta chip it off. And it doesn't have any effect on the weld itself. Sometimes the slag will just fall off on its own but sometimes you have to chip it off and it doesn't take much to get it off if you weld it properly.
No it doesn’t. That slag needs to be removed.
The coated flux on the electrode protects the weld deposit.

The work piece is sitting on a piece of steel that must be connected to ground clamp off screen.
What would have actually happened is the electrode would stick to the plate and not move

An old British guy told me something like this when it came to shipbuilding and you would just keep loading the rods and it would go along.

There's 2 things going here. 1) A quick vid of a weld making itself. Wouln't that be nice. 2) Flash burns, molten steel on exposed skin, which is annoying. i have done this with 7024 jet rods in the 70s 500 amps 1/4 inch rods by what i remember .weld i beam stiffeners to 3/4 inch plate. for a square tank that goes to a wast water plant in Saudi Arabia. i only did it once in a while just to show off . marlboro new jersey

Imagine when they get good equipment what they can do, all strictly due to having to do the best with the worst material and tech equipment...So in theory give the best skilled the worst equipment and materials and they will revolutionize the modern industry to an even better higher evolved technique and thus forcing the industry to evolve
