I don't know why, but Woody's unpainted pullstring becoming just a power symbol is strangely funny to me.

If I had to take a guess, I’d say that the bootleggers were basing their Buzz figure off one of the ones made for the animated series. The more cartoony face and button detailing seems to be more in line with the BLOSC style.
Yeah, looking at pictures it definitely looks like it might be a bootleg of Roboots Buzz from that toyline.
Now that you mention it, yeah it does look similar to the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command version of him. John Lasseter apparently hates that cartoon for some reason which might be why it's not on Disney+.
@@ExtremeWreck They hate the series most likely because they didn't do it themselves and felt it was Disney's overreach and ownership of the character and/or a mandate they had to conform to. That's the ONLY excuse I'd accept. It's one of the best Disney series based on a movie, and Tad Stones was involved with the series creation. Disney could have made a cheap-o cashgrab of a movie tie in, but they instead gave a masterclass on expanding the concept and world building with sharp humor and writing. I suspect the new movie is just Pixar taking a massive "we'll do it better" dump on it. It's a shame they refuse to acknowledge that series. I bet Tarzan the animated series is on there, though. Because, yeah, that was memorable.
@@ExtremeWreck Lasseter is no longer with Disney and hasn’t been for a little while now so I’m not sure if that’s the reason it’s not on Disney+. Hopefully it’s added soon I remember loving that show as a kid
You’re right on the money. I used to have most of the Mattel BLoSC line and I believe in particular, the bootleggers based this one off of a figure that came with his space speeder from the show.
Strange how Woody looks relatively on-model for a cheap bootleg, and then Buzz turned out like... THAT.

They straight up just copy-pasted the Buzz design from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. They might as well have included a button to spout various Patrick Warburton phrases (but not from that specific cartoon).

Fun Fact: Originally, in Toy Story 4, Buzz was supposed to meet bootleg versions of himself when he was stuck in that carnival game. Had they kept that plot line in the final script, I would have loved to see that toy as an actual character. XD

3:51 Fun fact, this Buzz is just a scaled version of a toy for the animated series. It sat on a rocket motorcycle stylized to the shows art with a backpack unit and wings too. Weird to see a bootleg just scale it up to massive size like that, to keep the articulation/hand positions, and too add weird electronics into it.
It was quite a coup for Phelan to get Tim Allen to reprise his role as Buzz!
That Buzz Lightyear is a knock off version of his design from “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command”.
On the Chinafake Wiki, there is a bootleg version of the Dancing Flik from A Bugs Life. The article stated it moved like the dancing Jar Jar Binks from Thinkway Toys.

I'm rather sure that the "Buzz and Woody appear grandly with their newst weapon!" line is actually supposed to refer to the chest-light (laser) going by that comic. This is probably the most effort I've ever seen bootleggers put in to try and explain the chest-light. Which makes it even more stupid that they didn't include a chest-light on Buzz and instead put them in his helmet. I love it! 🤣
I honestly wish more bootleggers would include completely mismatching models of varying quality in the same package. The juxtaposition of having a giant semi-decent bootleg next to something like satanic michelangelo would be hilarious.

The mold for that Buzz is actually modelled after his appearance in the short-lived cartoon spin-off Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

I remember Ashens reviewing something that looked eerily similar to that Buzz, but smaller and much lower quality (for starters, it didn't have the articulated elbows and knees), so apparently some people decided that bootlegging that bootleg was a good idea, for some unholy reason.
I remember when Leokimvideo looked at bootleg Woody and Buzz Lightyear figures in one of his Dark Side Knockoff toy videos, he claimed they were nasty.
Funny thing about "Buzz" being bigger than "Woody": In the original draft for You Story, Woody was actually a lot bigger than Buzz.
Seems to me that the "giant power button" is actually a representation of the pull string and ring to make him talk. Still, interesting coincidence.

This is hilarious, thanks for sharing, as always. Buzz's design looks like the TV animated series one, so I wouldn't be surprised if this came after TS2 when Pixar announced another sequel. I have to say though--- those light-up red lights are pretty AWESOME.
What I find particularly hilarious about this set is that, in the movies, Woody is quite a bit taller than Buzz, to the extent that they had to do the digital equivalent of trenching in at least one scene in the original. Such is the wonderful wackiness of knock-offs.
Speaking of Bootleg "Toy Story 3" figures, we are overdue for a review of the Dingo film "The Toys Room."

I never expected you to cover Toy Story content and that Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command bootleg reminds me of when Ashens reviewed a similar Derp Lightyear years ago as part of a bootleg figure set, also my current boss at the greenhouse looks like the movie version of Casey Jones.

The sound chip used in Buzz Lightyear was also used in many crappy electronic toy guns from the dollar store years ago.
I have a theory a lot of action figures and guns use that soundchip. There was also a bootleg Shaun The Sheep toy Ashens reviewed, it played bootleg Ben 10 sounds.
Buzz here reminds me a lot of Big Shot (AKA the Punisher guy) from _The Tick._ He definitely looks like something's snapped.

I certainly do miss the cartoon series. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was part of my childhood and it will always be the proper story of Buzz’s origins in my mind! The torso and head is *definitely not* the Thinkway Buzz, it definitely matches the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Animated Series, which never had a full size Thinkway style figure.
That was just my best guess what mold they started with and modified, maybe it's just another mold upscaled.
The disproportionate size difference between the two reminds me of the Nightmare Buzz level from the video game, which was based on a scrapped idea from the first movie.
The longer I look at that face the funnier it gets.
The bootleggers were pretty inspired to draw from the early Toy Story drafts where Woody was a giant malevolent ventriloquist dummy, only they decided to reverse their roles.

That isn't a power button on Woodys back, it's a sculpt of the pull ring cord that would make him talk in the film. Buzz is based on a Buzz Lightyear of Star Command toy of the cartoon design, not a Toy Story version of the CGI character.
Of course the hat is their newst weapon! Woody got _really_ into Mortal Kombat lately and he mains Kung Lao.
I would say that they probably based their design for Buzz off of the 2001 animated series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. Defunctland did an entire video on it a while back & it kind of makes me want to see the series myself now that I've seen you have fun with such hilariously bad bootlegs like these! Too bad John Lasseter hated it & it ain't on Disney+ & most likely never will :(.

Leokimvideo has reviewed Thomas The Tank Engine knockoffs in his so called Dark Side videos. He recognizes those toys have the same annoying soundchip.

Woody is, as the face can suggest, a 1995 Thinkway figure that is 3.5 inches (i'm guessing. if i am wrong, feel free to correct me)
I'd buy Buzz only to destroy it, as it's a piece of dog shit. Woody needs a few adjustments, but is serviceable at best. He just needs a repaint and he's fine.

I can't find any evidence of an exact figure they ripped off on Google but the design overall of this Buzz is definitely from the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoon which had a simplified design scheme, just.....somehow uglier, but I feel like I remember this toy from somewhere when I was growing up watching the show.
Buzz is actually based off of a figure made for the "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" TV show. The biggest giveaway is the design of the buttons on his chest.
