Thanks . I find this not too bad to read but may get confused to write or say. I was taught that devoir means "must" and falloir means "it is necessary
That's exactly what I thought! Devoir - you absolutely have to, and faut - it is necessary that..... so for me I thought that devoir is the more urgent of the two. But I'll bow to the knowledge of a native I think!
I always found it fascinating the way the NEGATIVE of "falloir" + subjunctive is translated. For example, "Il ne faut pas que tu y ailles" can mean either "you don't have to go there" or (more commonly) "you must not go there."
''Il faut travailler'' exact translation is ''it takes working'' it is in a general sense and is not addressed to anybody while ''nous devons travailler'' is a precise addressing of ''we'', so they are not exactly the same.
Hi! Isn't there un typo in the sentence "Tu devrais pendre un manteau" (1:03) ? Which is translated as "You should take a coat". I think there should be "prendre" not "pendre". Anyway, thanks a lot for these great lessons!
Devoir as can expression of obligation can stand alone without an infinitive e.g. "Je dois" = "i must"......Can falloir also stand alone in the same way without am infinitive e. g. "Il faut" (can this be a sentence???)???
+Boris Vian As I always say about the verb Aller, it does not like to be alone in short sentences, it needs y or en: Nous devons y aller = we need to go (there = y)
I have always coupled 'devoir' with a duty, promise or obligation: he must work because he promised to and 'falloir' with necessity: He must work to keep the bank from taking the farm. is there any such distinction?
Mr. Dherve, In another video in which I had asked you about falloir, you gravely misinterpreted what I was asking you and you did not even remotely address what I was asking you about. There is a video on UA-cam, ua-cam.com/video/lNfpIsy-0pk/v-deo.html, here is the link. I advise that you watch it so you understand what I am asking you. In it, this woman teaches that the verb falloir can be conjugated as Il me faut, Il te faut, Il lui faut, Il nous faut, Il vous faut, Il leur faut. I asked you in the other video, if "Il nous faut" means we need, how does "Il faut" BY ITSELF mean we need? That is what I asked you that you did not answer me. Now I am asking you straight up, Question #1, how can "Il faut" BY ITSELF, without saying il nous faut, mean WE need IF THERE IS NO nous? That is what I am asking you that you are not understanding and that you are not answering me. That is what I do not get. That is what I do not understand.
Alex Salazar dear sir, I am very sorry not understand you as you deserve. I also accept thank you from you when I spend hours to reply to all your comments everywhere.
The best explanation of these two verbs, ever!

Oh how I struggled with these two before...merci beaucoup Pascal!
''Il faut travailler'' exact translation is ''it takes working'' it is in a general sense and is not addressed to anybody while ''nous devons travailler'' is a precise addressing of ''we'', so they are not exactly the same.
How can Il faut travailler be used with indirect object ? There is no à preposition here ??

+Jakub Šťastný you are right and a typo like that in French is called: une coquille

Excellent explanation, merci beaucoup Pascal!
DGreat presentation, look forward to many more.
Excellent excellent video. You answered several questions that I’ve had for some time. Thank you.
Is it possible to stick to devoir all the time instead of using “ falloir”?
in the second sentence what does "leur" mean ?
"leurs" ( it should be written with an s in that case: plural form) is a possessive pronoun and means "their" ( parents )
Merci, vous expliquez très bien les choses que tu parles dans les vidéos
Merci Pascal pour ton vidéo très intéressant
Antonio Cardenas merci, vidéo en francés es femenina , pour ta vidéo
c'était merveilleux la vidéo! merci beaucoup! :)
Thanks Pascal. Very useful, as ever!

You could say: il le faut better than il faut
Why are we assuming IL aurait de venir is a male? I thought IL was neutral?
Fink Jonas il aurait dû venir: he should have come; elle aurait dû venier: she..., here il is not neutral
J'adore ça.
Why did you use ''y'' in the sentence of ''Nous devons y aller''? What is the meaning of the sentence?
+Boris Vian As I always say about the verb Aller, it does not like to be alone in short sentences, it needs y or en: Nous devons y aller = we need to go (there = y)
+Learn French with Pascal you are awesome pascal!
Merci beaucoup, Proffesseur Pascal.

It's most important.
Excellent 😊
Wow! Excellent!
Pascal... Je pense que le verbe "pleuvoir" aussi est comme le verbe "Falloir". Il pleut , Il pleuvait, Il a plu . Il ne doit être utilisé que avec pronom Il. Y a- t - il d'autres verbes comme Falloir ou Pleuvoir ?
+Neo Crystal il mouille, il neige, il vente...

Saleem choudhury merci
tu devrais is better translated as "you ought to"
“Les enfants doivent le respect à leur parents”, or leurs?
Vous êtes nés en France ou quoi?

falloir (francais) = tener (espanol) = to have (english)

Même à l'oral je trouve il a fallu horrible, je préfère utiliser le passé simple il fallut.
Mes parents pensent toujours qu’il faille que j’en maigrisse
Yandol Fe qu’il faut que je maigrisse
me faut que travailler (francais) = me tengo que trabajar (espanol) = i have to work (english)
Amjad Farooq it is not French, no es. francés.
je ne comprends pas! comment n'est pas francais?
Amjad Farooq me faut que travailler n'est pas français
il me faut que travailler! francais o non?
Amjad Farooq nooon, y me tengo que trabajar tampoco es español
