- New England Patriots former quarterback Tom Brady faced off against the Indianapolis Colts in his first ever start under center in the NFL. The Patriots defeated the Peyton Manning lead Colts 44-13 in old Foxboro Stadium. This would be the start of an era in New England that lead to six Super Bowl titles.

This was the first NFL game I ever attended. My family got the tickets from my uncle who didn't really want to go to this one as it was just some backup QB playing...
“Some backup QB” damn….
Little did he know that “backup” would be one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time.
@@brenreeethe greatest
@@brenreeeis the greatest.
That has to be his biggest regret😂
One of the most underrated defenses of all time
Talk about underrated….
Former Bills RB Antoin Smith
Show me how the defense did better against the greatest show on turf than Titans defense and Saints defense in previous two playoffs, given how much Belichick invested on defense.
@@kingdingaling2469he has 2 more superbowl wins than the Bills.
Pats won titans didn't belicheck is a defensive mastermind and all the good players just added to it saints also allowed more points@@williamli6200
As a young colts fan back then I thought we were so damn good. And year after year the Patriots would just kick out ass so bad. When we finally beat them it was such a relief.
That's crazy his first start and win came against the colts and none other than Peyton Manning. All their historic duels and it all started here 🤯
Also obviously first start Brady wasn't Brady yet it is funny like 90% of this video is just the defense making manning life absolute hell
@@hibiki8473or the running back torching the defense
@@hibiki8473true and yet for a first nfl start it looks like he simply did his job well lik he had been doing it for years already. Might not be flashy but as they pointed out in the roast he hes kind of boring to at watch at times because he is so consistent in executing an offense that runs on screens, and thats what allowed him to be the goat because all he ha fo do is execute his job in a qell built machine. He doesnt have ro compensate for a shitty oline or anything like that by escaping and completing high risk plays. At the end if the day its still impressive that he came in during a first NFL start and made basically no mistakes. He got his playmakers the ball so efficiently that they were able to simply trounce the defense with ease- a lot of first game starters would not be able to pull that off. If he had gone to many other teams he would have been good but not the goat. The Patriots being built so well allowed him to execute a consistent game plan over and over again because he didnt have to make up for other parts s of the offense lacking- he could just do his job and he did it very well
Antowain Smith and Kevin Faulk, what a dynamic duo.
NE had some of the greatest and most underrated defenses of all time.
faxxxx
Do people actually consider these Pats D's "underrated"? I thought the prevailing opinion is that they were great year-in, year-out? Maybe a poopoo D once in a blue moon (2013), but the D's were always above average, to historically excellent (01, 03-04, 07, 14, Gilmore's DPOTy).
@@Brian-qg8vu Not underrated to you, myself, and some others, but underrated in the sense that their defensive teams will likely be a distant after thought to the average NFL fan in recalling the Patriots long dominance, with most credit and props being given to Brady and Belichick. Even though all 6 of their SB victories were won by an average of just 4.8 points. The average margin of victory in all SBs to date is 14 points (30-16 SB average score). (NE's 6 SB win's average score was 25-20).
@@joegillooly6716 ya you right that's a shame, Pats don't really have that one notable D like the 85 Bears or 00 Ravens. I feel like they have at least 3 claims to top-10 slots though, and the consistent dominance for 20 years is a fantastic legacy.
@@Brian-qg8vu I absolutely agree.
And this will also be known as the greatest decision ever made by a head coach in NFL history as well. But Tom is the definition of a Cinderella story
Everybody always says that but after watching him at Michigan I still can't believe he went 199, just horrible drafting by everyone even before we knew who he would be, he was great at Michigan
@@j.m.b6691yeah, looking back it was really weird because he played so well at michigan
He wasn’t a Cinderella story cuz he became the greatest qb ever
Now B🐓B will be the new one
Defense was insane that year
Show me how the defense did better against the greatest show on turf than Titans defense and Saints defense in previous two playoffs, given how much Belichick invested on defense.
The score count for NE was like this: 3, 3, and 1. 3 Field Goals, 3 defensive TD's, and 1 running TD.
@@williamli6200 That was Parcells guys. He drafted a lot of them.
2001 patriot defense man was 🔥🔥
Patriots defense in 2003 was damn fine as well
Miss this era of Patriots defense! I feel so blessed to grow up with this team.
Tom Brady Will Always Be A New England Patriots ❤️💙🤍 Legend As The Goat🐐🏉🏈
Incredible team performance as the glory began to rise. A fitting first start for TB12. What a STACKED team those Patriots were. Such a blinding contrast to the Patriots of this abysmal year.
I saw him his first game in Mass . All these years I'm in NC . Watched him his whole career ❤ the GOAT ❤
Miss this era. I was in attendance at the snow bowl and the Super Bowl in NO that year. Great time in my life.
i mean you can really see brady’s greatness just the way that man plays the pocket cool calm and collected he lets that ball fly with zero hesitation
Lmao. Easy to look collected when you don't have to make any plays
@@davidsuch8942I mean Brady was mostly throwing check down passes and the guy he passed to would run for like 40 yards lol and the running back would at least run like 5 yards each play and Tom Brady just has to sit there and the defense gets two touchdowns and gets them into easy field goal range.
Wow, I’m glad I found this. First NFL game I went to was lucky enough to go with the local Boys and Girls Club of my town. Little did I know I was watching the 🐐
The memories!!!😊
What a flashback! I remember this game. It's fun to see some old names like Antowain Smith, Brian Cox, Tebucky Jones etc... awesome stuff
What a incredible classic game!!! Toms first start against manning, his rival. Back when the pats were on top. Seeing Brady leave was sad but his legacy is unmatched
was it really a rivalry? Tom ate Manning's lunch and dinner while getting his dinner ate by Eli
@Un_k_noWN not hard when Peyton never had a defense like Tom did to carry him. Brady was a "game manager" his first 6 years 😂
Bryan Cox's amazing hit on Pathon was the beginning of the end here. They don't let defenses set the tone like that anymore--which is to the benefit of the players, perhaps, but to the detriment of the games.
Wow. I had forgotten what defense used to look like. Half of this stuff would be flagged nowadays.
Tom Brady ❤ is the heart, spirit and soul of the New England Patriots (Pats), absolutely nothing works without Tom Brady, always has been and always will be. Only Tom Brady made all the Super Bowl wins possible.
Smith running over guys. Didnt know how much of a monster he was till now that im older n lookin back on tape. Glad to witness the kid turn into the Goat.
Tom Brady is my favorite quarterback he was like me for unified basketball
That hit by Cox would probably be a flag today. The game was so much better 20 years ago.
Agreed.
I feel so old… I remember watching this when I was still in high school 😂
I was 30 lol.
Yup. Just starting freshman year for me at Methuen High

What a defence

THE LEGEND OF TOM BRADY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, he really managed the game as Patriots D just manhandled the Colts O 🙄
@@PrinceRawD Idiot, show me how the defense did better against the greatest show on turf than Titans defense and Saints defense in previous two playoffs, given how much Belichick invested on defense. BTW, lot of good defenses in playoff shut down Peyton.
@@PrinceRawD & Manning Choked! FACT
Tom Brady conquered all rivalries
They didn't act like they were 0-2. That defense is ridiculous
I saw something in Brady that I really liked in that Jets game the week before, so I was really looking forward to this game. During the week I listened to a lot of WEEI (sports talk radio); and I remember all the depressed fans calling in to talk about what a huge blow it was. I kept thinking to myself, "Are none of these people eager to see what this kid could do? What happened to all the callers who wanted to put in Michael Bishop (the season before)?" I knew the defense would still give Manning fits, so I felt Brady had just as good of a chance as Bledsoe.
Monster defense
Go Patriots 💙❤️ 6 Rings 💍
I'll admit I'm young but this team would have been great to watch especially from this highlight reel
Holy crap! I knew Tom won his first start against Peyton but I had no idea it was a blowout like that. And... obviously, Tom wasn't a huge part of the beating but he did his job.
Peyton sucked at the start of his career it took about 4-5 years for him to turn into The Sheriff
@@qualicumjack3906 He threw a lot of interceptions the first year. Before Brady played. Didn't they win a lot of games before he became "The Sheriff"? I don't think "sucked" is the most accurate description. And remember, the number one pick goes to the worst team.
@@thanksfernuthin
The year of this game, the Colts went 6-10 and Peyton threw 26 TDs to 23 INTs, also fumbled 7 times.
He was basically like Jameis Winston with less yards.
I’m pretty sure this game was from the year Jim Mora had his “Playoffs?” rant.
The jury was still out on Peyton at the time he won his first Superbowl
@@qualicumjack3906 You said 4-5 years. That's what I was countering. And my point that the number one pick goes to the worst team is still valid. Listen, I'm a huge Brady fan. But I loved the rivalry with Manning(s). Peyton was an excellent, entertaining foe. It's all a part of Brady's legend.

Idek what point you’re trying to make
The memories of better days
Such a great game/story
Im Australian but I love this sport. American sports are just so epic.
Sacked on his very first play & then on he went. Great QB.
These were the best Pats teams. Back when you could play D
So many of those players are famous for being in the superbowl teams. The nucleus was already there, day one.
& The Legend Was Born
🏈 TB12 🐐
He made a few throws...that was all Defense but of course Tom gets all the credit right 🙄
@@PrinceRawD Would Manning be able to save the team from own 3 yard line and deliver the winning drive in SB with Troy Brown?
Answer : NO. Hence Pats wouldn't have won the SB with Peyton.
@@williamli6200 And if Adam had missed a couple of kicks, Ty Law drops a pick 6, Malcolm Butler drops an INT, James White fails to break three tackles on his way to a game winning run...how many rings does your lord and savior have?
Funny how this was about a certain game but in your pathetic defense, you deflect elsewhere 🤔
@@PrinceRawD doesn't matter. Pats wouldn't have chance winning SB with any other QB with that squad.
BTW, the reason Pats could get first round bye was because Brady delivered 3 comeback wins with that sh!tty squad.
@williamli6200 Actually it does because it kills you ball washing fangirls narrative. And more deflection. Each of those players I mentioned delivered GAME WINNING PLAYS IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES!
A "sh!tty squad" that beat the Greatest Show On Turf in a Championship game. A "sh!tty" squad went back to back 14-2 seasons ending in Rings #2 & 3!
A "sh!tty squad" that beat the Legion Of Boom despite your lord and savior getting outplayed by Russel Wilson and throwing 2 picks in a Championship game.
A "sh!tty squad" overcame your lord and savior's pick six and bone head throws to a triple covered Julian Edelman and a Russel Wilson type throw to Marcellus Bennett in the red zone. Thank God Vic Beasley dropped it
A "sh!tty squad" that held the Rams to three points. Completed a 20 year dynasty
Pom pom Brady ball washing fangirl...time to quit while you're behind. "sh!tty squads" don't do any of what I mentioned due to one player. Time to put the pom poms away...for good
we were so spoiled lol
And I was told the Patriots O-Line was bad this year. Manning couldn’t do anything against our defense!
Half these plays would have been flagged in today's game.....
Today's game sucks.
Peyton always throwing picks in NE. 😂
TY LAW🔥🔥
We will never see a team like that again
The game that started it all, and it was against the Manning and the Colts.
Can't get much better than that.
Damn smith and that defense shhhhshh
2:35 Manning to the sideline... INTERCEPTED OTIS SMITH!... SMITH! With running room... SMITH!... gets down the sideline... SMITH! needs one more block... SMITH! cuts it in... TOUCHDOWN NEW ENGLAND!
tom brady was selected 199 overall in the 7th or 8th round. the 7th qb selected. the only one i had ever heard of before was chad pennington, 1st round, jets
6th round
I always liked Manning, but anytime you watch Manning vs Brady highlights it becomes so obvious that Brady was better.
Need this highlight package with the Santos-Pete Brock radio call.
If you are a Colts fan this was quite possibly the worst day of your life😂😂
Otis Smith INT was insane!
Look what can happen when you have a great defense and a solid running game to go along with a young quarterback. Too bad Bill Belichick forgot how all the winning started.
Yeah, look at the 49ers right now. Purdy's game against Cowboys reminds me of this game.
Every single one of those people get to say they were at tom brady’s first game
and there goes a legend that Bill tried to screw over and got a major goat burn from it
This season really should have been remembered as the season that launched Tom Brady's career and the Patriots dynasty. Instead, it has been undeniably overshadowed by PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS???
The beginning of the patriot dynasty.
The better times of football. When the defense could play...defense.

As a Steeler fan little did we know this dynasty would haunt us for decades…
A typical BB era team win, defensive turnovers and lots of running back plays, Brady made a couple of throws when needed, complimentary football!
" Brady made a couple of throws *when needed,* "
Was Brady supposed to do it with that squad? other teams put tons of talents around their QBs and pray that their QB will be able to do it.
Zappe let’s go 🎉🎉🎉
I remember that game. The kid was starting.
Reminds me of what the Steelers used to be… see D wins. Champions
Was there maybe 3 highlights of Brady throwing the ball and 2 were RB screens? Otherwise just a hilarity of miscues by the Colts
This is pretty much how the "first dynasty" went. Crushing defense, nasty running game, Vinatieri hitting every kick. Brady was a game manager in his early years.
@@cf2851 Dimwit, Brady's offense scored 100 more points than the offense in previous year, had to deliver 3 comeback wins and deliver winning drive in SB.

11-6 all-time against Peyton
Married into 99’s family. Scioli, never shuts up about sacking Brady in his first start.

Im a jets fan,
And btw there needs to be a statue for Mo Lewis, in New England
Mo lewis knocked out Bledsoe,
How does Gus sound exactly the same over 20 years later 😂
I want to tell everyone what happens in this game but I don't want to spoil it.
This should have been Manning's first time face and Brady. The whole video was about the defense and the colts go in the ball!!
My 14th birthday. I was 34 when he retired. 🤣
🎉
Miss Kevin Faulk he could ball while smoking a pound and belichick didn't care lol
Crazy his first start was against Peyton
I remember this game. Every one never gave Brady a chance to win. The patriots were the underdogs.
Jeesh I figured he'd win in his debut, not shitstomp Peyton Manning
Cox is a force of nature
I was there
Ty Law should've been down on that interception but that's just my perception
how nice of them to give the lower draft picks some playing time
The war of 1812 was so good
It was the defense not Brady that won this game for NE. If they lost this game Brady might not have had another opportunity to start. Brady gotta thank the great NE Defense!!!!
So it begins...
Remember during this game when Gus Johnson talked about 0-2 teams making the playoffs?!?!??
They didn’t mention he.
They forgot we were the 3rd 0-2 team at the time 😂
never even had a passing touchdown that game
Man what a bad.game for the colts
I hope Mac Jones took his work home with him this off season. You would be surprised the edge you get from really knowing the guys you are playing with on a week by week basis.zz With rules on when and how you can practice. In an attempt to curve the competitive edge. Which I don’t get. Atleast if it’s about who works the hardest 🤔 there’s a reason why they do that
Tyson Bagent brought me here.
